Context

The Monthly State Retail Sales (MSRS) is the Census Bureau's new experimental data product featuring modeled state-level retail sales. This is a blended data product using Monthly Retail Trade Survey data, administrative data, and third-party data. Year-over-year percentage changes are available for Total Retail Sales excluding Non-store Retailers as well as 11 retail North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) retail subsectors. These data are provided by state and NAICS codes beginning with January 2019.

The datasets are comprised of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission factors (Factors) for 1,016 U.S. commodities as defined by the 2017 version of the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). The Factors are based on GHG data representing 2019. Factors are given for all NAICS-defined commodities at the 6-digit level except for electricity, government, and households. Each record consists of three factor types as in the previous releases: Supply Chain Emissions without Margins (SEF), Margins of Supply Chain Emissions (MEF), and Supply Chain Emissions with Margins (SEF+MEF). One set of Factors (SupplyChainGHGEmissionFactors_v1.2_NAICS_CO2e_USD2021.csv) provides kg carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) per USD for all GHGs combined using 100 yr global warming potentials from the 4th IPPC Assessment report to calculate the equivalents. In this dataset there is one SEF, MEF and SEF+MEF per commodity. The other dataset of Factors (SupplyChainGHGEmissionFactors_v1.2_NAICS_byGHG_USD2021.csv) provides kg of each unique GHG emitted per dollar per commodity without the CO2e calculation. The dollar (USD) in the denominator of all factors uses purchaser prices in 2021 USD. The data includes the year, 2-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code, and a count of the number of businesses by number of employees. The table data shows the number of businesses categorized by the number of employees they have. Please ensure you read the notes provided below, as there is very important information on classification and comparability. NotesStatistics Canada advises users not to use these data as a time series. Further, the counts may reflect some of the business openings and closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, although they will not be fully represented as the evolving resumption or permanent closure of businesses may not yet be fully processed and confirmed by Statistics Canada's Business Register (The Daily — Canadian business counts, December 2021 (statcan.gc.ca)).Changes in methodology or in business industrial classification strategies used by Statistics Canada's Business Register can create increases or decreases in the number of active businesses reported in the data on Canadian business patterns. Beginning in December 2014, there were several important changes that were made:

The data appear in two separate series, one covering locations with employees, the other covering locations without employees. The second series corresponds to locations previously coded to the employment category called "indeterminate." A new North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) category has been added to include locations that have not yet received a NAICS code: unclassified. It represents an additional 78,718 locations with employees and 313,107 locations without employees. The second series, locations without employees, also includes locations that were not previously included in tables but that meet the criteria used to define the Business Register coverage. The impact of the change will be the inclusion of approximately 600,000 additional locations.

Before 2014, the following notes apply:

The establishments in the "Indeterminate" category do not maintain an employee payroll, but may have a workforce which consists of contracted workers, family members or business owners. However, the Business Register does not have this information available, and has therefore assigned the establishments to an "Indeterminate" category. This category also includes employers who did not have employees in the last 12 months. Please note that the employment size ranges are based on data derived from payroll remittances. As such, it should be viewed solely as a business stratification variable. Its primary purpose is to improve the efficiency of samples selected to conduct statistical surveys. It should not be used in any manner to compile industry employment estimates. Employment, grouped in employment size ranges, is more often than not an estimation of the annual maximum number of employees. For example, a measure of "10 employees" could represent "10 full-time employees", "20 part-time employees" or any other combination.For more information refer to Statistics Canada's Definitions and Concepts used in Business Register.

Data Processing Notes: Boundaries come from the US Census Bureau TIGER geodatabases. Boundaries are updated at the same time as the data updates (annually), and the boundary vintage appropriately matches the data vintage as specified by the Census Bureau. These are Census Bureau boundaries with water and/or coastlines clipped for cartographic purposes. For census tracts, the water cutouts are derived from a subset of the 2010 AWATER (Area Water) boundaries offered by TIGER. For state and county boundaries, the water and coastlines are derived from the coastlines of the 500k TIGER Cartographic Boundary Shapefiles. The original AWATER and ALAND fields are still available as attributes within the data table (units are square meters). The States layer contains 52 records - all US states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico Blank values represent industries where there either were no businesses in that industry and that geography OR industries where the data had to be withheld to avoid disclosing data for individual companies. Users should visit data.census.gov or Census Business Builder for more details on these withheld records.

This dataset is a customization of Statistics Canada data to present information on the employment by NAICS 2, 3, and 4 digit code by for Alberta’s economic regions and census metropolitan areas for the years 1987 to 2013 using annual averages.

Data on place of work status by industry sectors (2-digit code) from the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) 2017, work activity during the reference year, age and gender for census metropolitan areas, tracted census agglomerations and census tracts.

This extract lists job postings scraped from the web by Greenwich HR, a human resources intelligence company from the beginning of 2020. According to the company, the data represents more than 70% of the official job listings across various sectors. Raw extract files are obtained weekly from Greenwich HR in .part_00000 files which are read as tables. The extract contain information on company, job details, SIC and NAICS codes, post timestamp, skills sought, etc. SIC codes obtained in the extract are converted to 2 digit NAICS codes by selecting the first two digits and joining with two digits NAICS codes based on SIC-NAICS crosswalk search results. Data is aggregated weekly by counties and categorized according to two digit NAICS codes whenever possible. Change in number of listings is based on year on year values compared with weeks beginning the first day of each year. The data was also joined to county-wise montly employment data from Bureau of Labor Statistics.
