    Description

The purpose of this page is to describe the organization of the greenhouse gas inventory report and to indicate where to find the online material. To learn more about Canada’s official greenhouse gas inventory, visit the Main page: https://www.canada.ca/ghg-inventory Contact us: https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/climate-change/greenhouse-gas-emissions/contact-team.html Documents available online: The National Inventory Report (NIR) comprises three parts. Part 1 of the NIR includes the Executive Summary and Chapters 1 to 8. Part 2 consists of Annexes 1 to 7. Part 3 includes Annexes 8 to 13. The full report can be found at the following address: https://publications.gc.ca/site/eng/9.506002/publication.html. Part 2 and Part 3 data files can be accessed by clicking on the “Explore” button below, then “Go to resource”. Description of the content of each folder: A-IPCC Sector: Contains various greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions files by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sector and by gas, for all years, for Canada and for provinces and territories. B-Economic Sector: Contains various GHG emissions files by Economic sectors, for all years for Canada and for the latest year for provinces and territories. In the EN_GHG_Econ_Canada file, a tab containing the relationship between IPCC sector and Economic sector is also provided. Emissions are also presented by gas for Canada and for the provinces and territories. C-Tables Electricity Canada Provinces Territories: Contains summary and GHG intensity tables for Electricity in Canada. D-Emission Factors: Contains files with information on emission factors. E-LULUCF: Contains time-series estimates for the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector, geomatics files containing estimates attributed to spatial units, and a multi-year forestry improvement plan. F-Agriculture: Contains time-series estimates for the Agriculture sector and geomatics files containing estimates attributed to spatial units. G-Additional NIR Annexes: Contains Annex 1 (key categories), Annex 2 (uncertainty), Annex 3 (methodologies), Annex 4 (sectoral and reference approaches, and national energy balance), Annex 5 (completeness), Annex 7 (ozone and aerosol precursors) and Annex 8 (rounding protocol) of the National Inventory Report (NIR).

    Description

The Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP) collects information on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually from facilities across Canada. It is a mandatory program for those who meet the requirements. Facilities that emit 10 kilotonnes or more of GHGs, in carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent (eq.) units, per year must report their emissions to Environment and Climate Change Canada. The emissions data is available in two files, each presenting emissions by different breakdowns and offered in two convenient formats for downloads: .xlsx and .csv. The Emissions by Gas file, covering data from 2004 to present, contains emissions (in tonnes and tonnes of CO2 eq.) for each facility categorized by gas type, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), perfluorocarbons (PFC), and sulphur hexafluoride (SF6). The Emissions by Source file, starting from 2022, includes emissions data (in tonnes and tonnes of CO2 eq.) broken down by source category, encompassing Stationary Fuel Combustion, Industrial Process, On-site Transportation, Waste, Wastewater, Venting, Flaring, and Leakage. For additional information and usage guidelines, please refer to the accompanying "Lisez Moi - Read Me" file. Additionally, our data search tool can assist you in efficiently navigating and extracting specific information from the GHGRP's data. The report provides a snapshot of the social media usage trends amongst online Canadian adults based on an online survey of 1500 participants. Canada continues to be one of the most connected countries in the world. An overwhelming majority of online Canadian adults (94%) have an account on at least one social media platform. However, the 2022 survey results show that the COVID-19 pandemic has ushered in some changes in how and where Canadians are spending their time on social media. Dominant platforms such as Facebook, messaging apps and YouTube are still on top but are losing ground to newer platforms such as TikTok and more niche platforms such as Reddit and Twitch.

    Description

The LANDFIRE (LF) Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System (CFFDRS) product depicts fuel types as an identifiable association of fuel elements of distinctive species, form, size, arrangement, and continuity. CFFDRS exhibits characteristic fire behavior under the specified burn conditions. In LF 2022 Canadian fuel models are derived from the Fuel Model Guide to Alaska Vegetation (Alaska Fuel Model Guide Task Group, 2018) and subsequent updates. The LF CFFDRS product contains the fuel models used for the Fire Behavior Prediction (FBP) system fuel type inputs. Default values assigned to the Canadian Fuel Models required to run the Prometheus fire behavior software (Prometheus, 2021) are added as attributes to the LF CFFDRS product. To designate disturbed areas where CFFDRS is modified, the aggregated Annual Disturbance products from 2013 to 2022 in the Fuel Disturbance layer are used. All existing disturbances between 2013-2022 are represented in LF 2022 and the products are intended to be used in 2023, the year of release. The "capable" year terminology used in LF 2020 and LF 2016 Remap is no longer specified given the reduction in latency from when a disturbance occurs to the release date of fuel layers accounting for that disturbance. However, users should still consider adjusting fuel layers for disturbances that occurred after the end of the 2022 fiscal year (after October 1st, 2022) when using the LF 2022 fuel layers, as those changes would not be accounted for. Learn more about LF 2022 at https://landfire.gov/lf_230.php

The Canadian International Merchandise Trade (CIMT) Web Application offers the most detailed commodity trade data using the Harmonized System (HS) classification of goods (the 8-digit commodity level for exports and the 10-digit for imports). The CIMT Web Application also offers data at the international 6-digit commodity level. With the CIMT Web Application the user can visualize the latest information on customs based monthly trade through tables and charts as well as a time series report. For a selected period of time, one can also customize its selection and visualize trade, export or import, data for a specific trading partner, a specific province and a specific variable such as value, volume and a percentage change on a monthly or annual basis. The application has also the ability to retrieve the top 25 commodities traded between a selected by the user geography, Canada or a province, and trading partner, the World or a specific country, for the month of interest. When desired, the user can copy the data seen on the screen into their preferred data manipulation software. In general, merchandise trade data are revised on an ongoing basis for each month of the current year. The previous year's customs data are revised with the release of the January and February reference months as well as on a quarterly basis. The previous two years of customs based data are revised annually and are released in February with the December reference month.
