    According to a study conducted in New Zealand in December 2020, the United States had the highest number of 4chan posts per 100 thousand internet users. Overall, North Americans made 2,810 posts per 100 thousand internet users on the anonymous English language based website, and Canadians made 2,728 per 100 thousand users. Additionally, New Zealand and the United Kingdom saw just over 1,500 4chan posts per 100 thousand internet users.

    QAnon is a far-right, decentralized political movement founded on conspiracy theories that have gained popularity on social media after emerging on the alt-tech site 4chan in 2017. According to a 2020 report, the United States was the leading social media platform for QAnon-related posts on Twitter, accounting for 87 percent of tweets. Overall, the United Kingdom made up 2.8 percent of tweets that contained QAnon-related hashtags and phrases.

    Description

    QAnon is a far-right, decentralized political movement founded on conspiracy theories that have gained popularity on social media after emerging on the alt-tech site 4chan in 2017. According to a 2020 report, between March and June 2020, there were over 12 million posts published on Twitter that contained QAnon-related hashtags and phrases. Although Twitter was reported to have considerably more QAnon posts than Facebook and Instagram, the Meta-owned platforms saw much larger growth of such posts. Overall, between October 2017 and February 2018, there were 3,640 QAnon posts on Instagram, and between March 2020 and June 2020, almost 97 thousand were published, demonstrating an increase in QAnon posts of 2,561 percent within 32 months. Additionally, within the examined period, Facebook saw a 1,811 percent growth in QAnon posts.
