Interactive chart of the S&P 500 stock market index since 1927. Historical data is inflation-adjusted using the headline CPI and each data point represents the month-end closing value. The current month is updated on an hourly basis with today's latest value.
Contained within the Atlas of Canada's Reference Map Series, 1961 to 2010, is a map showing national, provincial and territorial boundaries. The set of places uses only one type of townstamp (except that capital cities have their own symbols), but the type styles indicate that there are three sizes of populated place. Roads are shown in two classes: the Trans-Canada Highway, and all other roads. Ferries and railways are also shown. Water features shown consist of rivers and lakes and the extent of permanent polar ice. There is limited data shown for foreign areas. Data are as of the early 1980s (with the 1981 Census being the basis of population data).
Between March 4 and March 11, 2020, the S&P 500 index declined by ** percent, descending into a bear market. On March 12, 2020, the S&P 500 plunged *** percent, its steepest one-day fall since 1987. The index began to recover at the start of April and reached a peak in December 2021. As of December 29, 2024, the value of the S&P 500 stood at ******** points. Coronavirus sparks stock market chaos Stock markets plunged in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, with investors fearing its spread would destroy economic growth. Buoyed by figures that suggested cases were leveling off in China, investors were initially optimistic about the virus being contained. However, confidence in the market started to subside as the number of cases increased worldwide. Investors were deterred from buying stocks, and this was reflected in the markets – the values of the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite also dived during the height of the crisis. What is a bear market? A bear market occurs when the value of a stock market suffers a prolonged decline of more than 20 percent over a period of at least 2 months. The COVID-19 pandemic caused severe concern and sent stock markets on a steep downward spiral. The S&P 500 achieved a record closing high of ***** on February 19, 2020. However, just over 3 weeks later, the market closed on *****, which represented a decline of around ** percent in only 16 sessions.

The survey was carried out as an extension intensive surveys of the River Yare earlier in 1987. Also, public concern over the inadequacy of sewage disposal facilities in the Yarmouth area. At present, thirty outfalls discharge crude sewage into the lower River Bure, causing some organic enrichment to the lower River Bure. The survey was carried out in the first week in June 1987. Eight sites were sampled with a cylindrical corer (15cms diam by 20cms deep). Three replicates were taken from the mid horizontal distance point between high and low tides. Cores were taken soon after low water on each occassion. A sub sample from each sample was taken for sediment analysis, the remainder was sieved through a 500 micron sieve. The survey suggests sewage enrichment of the lower estuary increases the productivity but does not adversely affect the species diversity. It was also postulated that much of the mercury discharged through the Norwich sewage works during the previous twenty years has accumulated in the sediments of Breydon Water. The estuary was found to support a healthy, but undiverse invertebrate fauna. The lack of diversity was thought to be due to the homogeneity of the sediment types and the lack of extremes of salinity within Breydon Water. Breydon Water satisfied the biological, chemical, and aesthetic criteria for a class A estuary under the UK Estuarine Classification Scheme. Breydon Water is important as an over-wintering ground for waders, wildfowl and gulls.

PHOTOGRAPHIC ACTIVITIES, 1987/88. Eric J. Woehler Movie and aerial photography were undertaken during the 87/88 visit. AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY The aerial photography was limited to two days, concurrent with the resupply visit by MV Nella Dan during Voyage 2, 18 and 19 October 1987. A Linhoff camera was mounted in one (HRK) of the two Hughes 500D helicopters on board and two 100 metre rolls of 70mm film were exposed. The first roll was exposed at Spit Island and North and South Spit on 18 October. The second roll was exposed around the Four Bays region, Saddle Point, Hoseason Beach and the archaeological site at Sealers Corner, Corinthian Bay on 19 October. Details of each roll are given in Table 1. Table 1. Photography of the harems on North and South Spit and the Four Bays region provided the opportunity of verifying ground counts made on the same day. All exposures were made at approximately 60 knots ground-speed. Flying heights were generally confined to below 350' at Atlas Cove by a low cloud cover and to 500' at Spit by strong winds at higher altitudes. Flight lines and photo centres representing the Roll 1 aerial photography (Film ANTC1082) are included in the aerial photography data available for download (see provided URL) and have Qinfo = 760. The flight lines and photo centres are provided as shapefiles and Qinfo is an attribute of the shapefiles. See the Quality field for comments about the flight lines and photo centres. The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) has prints of some Roll 1 frames. They were stitched together, and glued to a presentation board but have since been separated from the board and stored in an archival box. Print = Y in the attribute table of the photo centres shapefile indicates there is a print for that frame. The prints are not available for loan outside the AAD. Contact the Australian Antarctic Data Centre for access to the prints: http://data.aad.gov.au/aadc/requests/request.cfm
The project was a multi-year observation of zooplankton during the spring bloom period in a subarctic embayment. A small vessel belonging to the University of Alaska Juneau Center for Fisheries and Ocean Sciences was used to collect the data. Collections were made twice weekly using a CalVET net and a 1-m NIO Net. The CalVET net had 165 micrometer mesh, the NIO net had 500 micrometer mesh. Three to 4 stations were sampled in the bay and adjacent inlet.
Aerial distribution surveys are used by marine mammal biologists from FWC and other agencies to determine the seasonal distribution of manatees. Most surveys are conducted from small, four-seat, high-winged airplanes (Cessna 172 or 182) flying at a height of 500-1000 ft at a speed of 70-90 kts. Small helicopters may be used instead of fixed wing aircraft in urban areas or where waters are particularly opaque and hovering may be required. Surveys are flown along a standardized, theoretical flight route, which was designed to cover all likely manatee habitats in the study area. This "theoretical flight path" indicates the area that was covered during each survey, but it may not be the actual flight route flown on every survey. GPS tracklines recorded during surveys may be available for some flights. The survey area includes the largest estuary in Florida, which borders Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Manatee counties on Florida’s west coast. Tampa Bay consists of mostly shallow water (average 3m) with Egmont Channel (27m) and the main dredged shipping channels (13m). Five rivers enter the Bay: Hillsborough, Alafia, Little Manatee, Manatee, and Braden rivers. The area includes large expanses of seagrass in Boca Ciega Bay and Anna Maria Sound. Many undeveloped areas under state or federal management were part of the study area, including Egmont Key, Passage Key, and Pinellas national wildlife refuge.

Women and Unemployment was a study designed to study the effects of unemployment on women. The researcher examined the psychological and physical consequences of job loss for women. Specifically, the study focused on what working means to women, the effects of women's unemployment on family life and children, the effects of job loss on women's health, the meaning of work in women's lives, how the women lost their jobs, the support they had around their job loss, and, if applicable, how they found new employment. In presenting and exploring the varied and unique consequences of unemployment for women, the study also aimed to dispel the belief that job loss has identical effects for men and women. The sample consisted of 124 women from a large northeastern metropolitan area who had experienced involuntary unemployment for at least six weeks within the past two years. The sample was cross-sectional in terms of age, ethnicity, socio-economic status, educational level and occupation. The sample of women completing the initial survey questionnaires was 77.6% Caucasian, 13.8% African-American, 2.6% Latina, and 0.9% Asian-American. The majority of the women were mothers. An initial survey questionnaire was given to assess background information, previous work history and cursory unemployment experience. Personal interviews were conducted with a subsample of 30 women selected to represent the larger population of unemployed women in order to obtain detailed information regarding the unemployment experience. The interview consisted of sections on background information, work history, the job loss, health and social support, the job search, and the woman's future outlook. Interviewed participants also completed a booklet with the CES-D scale to measure depression and the Anxiety Scale of the MAACL as a measure of anxiety. The Murray Archive holds additional analogue materials for this study (paper questionnaires for all subjects as well as interview schedules, respondent booklets, transcripts and audiotapes of interviews).
