    Context

The United States Census is a decennial census mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the United States Constitution, which states: "Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States ... according to their respective Numbers."
    Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Census

    Content

The United States census count (also known as the Decennial Census of Population and Housing) is a count of every resident of the US. The census occurs every 10 years and is conducted by the United States Census Bureau. Census data is publicly available through the census website, but much of the data is available in summarized data and graphs. The raw data is often difficult to obtain, is typically divided by region, and it must be processed and combined to provide information about the nation as a whole.

The United States census dataset includes nationwide population counts from the 2000 and 2010 censuses. Data is broken out by gender, age and location using zip code tabular areas (ZCTAs) and GEOIDs. ZCTAs are generalized representations of zip codes, and often, though not always, are the same as the zip code for an area. GEOIDs are numeric codes that uniquely identify all administrative, legal, and statistical geographic areas for which the Census Bureau tabulates data. GEOIDs are useful for correlating census data with other censuses and surveys.

Please read metadata for additional information. Any data download constitutes acceptance of the Terms of Use.Abstract:Census tracts are small, relatively permanent statistical subdivisions of a county delineated by local participants as part of the U.S. Census Bureau's Participant Statistical Areas Program. The U.S. Census Bureau delineated census tracts in situations where no local participant existed or where local or tribal governments declined to participate. The primary purpose of census tracts is to provide a stable set of geographic units for the presentation of decennial census data. This is the first decennial census for which the entire United States is covered by census tracts. For the 1990 census, some counties had census tracts and others had block numbering areas (BNAs). In preparation for Census 2000, all BNAs were replaced by census tracts, which may or may not cover the same areas. The original 2010 census data was downloaded via ftp from Census. The lines were were redrawn with the best available data; such as roads, parcels, hydro, railroads, powerlines. Pierce County requires that the Census layers to be used with county data layers. The population figures were downloaded from the US Census website and joined to this this theme. For more information read 2010 Census Summary File 1 (Issued June 2011). This layer contains a geographic identifier (GEO_ID_GRP) for each block group that is the key field for the data from censuses and surveys such as Decennial Census, Economic Census, American Community Survey, and the Population Estimates Program. Data from many of the Census Bureau’s surveys and censuses, are available at the Census Bureau’s public data dissemination website (https://data.census.gov/). All original TIGER/Line shapefiles and geodatabases with demographic data are available atThe TIGER/Line Shapefiles are extracts of selected geographic and cartographic information from the Census Bureau's Master Address File (MAF)/Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER) Database (MTDB). The shapefiles include information for the fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Island areas (American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the United States Virgin Islands). The shapefiles include polygon boundaries of geographic areas and features, linear features including roads and hydrography, and point features. These shapefiles do not contain any sensitive data or confidential data protected by Title 13 of the U.S.C.Standard block groups are clusters of blocks within the same census tract that have the same first digit of their 4-character census block number (e.g., Blocks 3001, 3002, 3003 to 3999 in census tract 1210.02 belong to block group 3). Current block groups do not always maintain these same block number to block group relationships due to boundary and feature changes that occur throughout the decade. For example, block 3001 might move due to a change in the census tract boundary. Block groups delineated for the 2020 Census generally contain 600 to 3,000 people and a block group usually covers a contiguous area. Each census tract contains one or more block groups and block groups have unique numbers within census tract. Within the standard census geographic hierarchy, block groups never cross county or census tract boundaries, but may cross the boundaries of county subdivisions, places, urban areas, voting districts, congressional districts, and AIANNH areas.Block groups have a valid range of zero (0) through nine (9). Block groups beginning with a zero generally are in coastal and Great Lakes water and territorial seas. Rather than extending a census tract boundary into the Great Lakes or out to the 3-mile territorial sea limit, the Census Bureau delineated some census tract boundaries along the shoreline or just offshore. Description

Planktonic foraminifera census data have been widely used to reconstruct changes in ocean ecosystems as well as ocean chemistry and circulation through calibration functions. Here we analyse new core‐top census data from 22 sites in the western South Atlantic, improving the geographical coverage and spatial resolution of the environmental gradients from the region covered by the Brazil–Malvinas Confluence (~38°S–53°W). We combine them with previous data to provide an up‐to‐date compilation of the western South Atlantic planktonic foraminifera–calibration data set. We study the relationship between the assemblages present in the core‐top samples and the most dynamic environmental variables from the region to establish the environmental variable(s) more resolved by the assemblages. Therefore, we develop and assess a new calibration function using the data set and testing several statistical models at different water depths. Our results reveal that the distribution and abundance of the species in the Brazil–Malvinas Confluence region mainly reflect the influence of two environmental variables: the mixed layer temperature and mixed layer depth (57% of total variance). The most precise reconstructions were obtained when using sub‐surface temperatures between 40 and 50 m water depth. The application of the calibration function to a Holocene sediment core at ~37°S–53°W revealed mean annual sub‐surface temperature reconstructions between 8°C and 11°C, confirming the northward displacement of the Brazil–Malvinas Confluence during the onset of the Holocene and suggesting a major influence of the Malvinas Current during the entire Holocene at the studied site.

This dataset displays the Real GDP by metropolitan area for the years 2001-2005. For each of the posted metropolitan areas Millions of chained dollars and the percentage change from the previous year is posted. This data was geocoded according to city and state locations. During the geocoding process 233/363 records from the original dataset were successfully geocoded. The reason for this is that during the process is that the dataset often groups cities together into one metropolitan area, which were unable to be properly coded. This data was collected from the Bureau of Economic analysis at their web page at: http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/regional/gdp_metro/gdp_metro_newsrelease.htm Access Date: October 29, 2007
