This dataset was created to explore Costa Rica’s fungal diversity through a dataset of over 78,000 specimens from national and international collections. The compilation of fungal records from Costa Rican collections was elaborated mainly by assessing: 1. the unpublished database from Herbarium Dr. Luis Fournier Origgi of the Universidad de Costa Rica (USJ), and 2. the online database of the Herbarium of the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica (CR). For records of fungi of Costa Rica present in international collections, we searched the following databases: 1. the Mycology Collections Portal (MyCoPortal), 2. the Culture Collection of Fungi and Yeasts at the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute (KNAW), 3. the former International Mycological Institute fungal reference collection (IMI), and 4. the herbarium catalog of the Swedish Museum of Natural History (S). A complete dataset was built, including species name, supra-specific classification, herbarium source, type status, and when available, collector(s), collection date, locality, geographic coordinates, and ecological information. The complete dataset was standardized, and all higher taxonomic ranks were taxonomically standardized and updated according to Index Fungorum (2024). Records with names that were not validly published or that could not be found in Index Fungorum were included because most probably they refer to distinct species.

The Costa Rican telecom market, valued at $1.48 billion in 2025, exhibits a steady growth trajectory, projected at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 1.14% from 2025 to 2033. This moderate growth reflects a mature market with high penetration rates for mobile and fixed-line services. Key drivers include increasing smartphone adoption, rising data consumption fueled by streaming services and online activities, and the ongoing expansion of 4G and the nascent rollout of 5G networks. However, the market faces constraints such as price competition among established players (ICE Group (Kolbi), Liberty Communications of Costa Rica LLC, Claro Costa Rica, Sky Costa Rica, Tigo Costa Rica, Telecable, Cabletica, Movistar, and RACSA) and the need for continuous infrastructure investment to meet growing bandwidth demands. The market is segmented into voice services (wired and wireless), data and messaging services, and Over-The-Top (OTT) and Pay TV services, with data and OTT services experiencing the most significant growth driven by changing consumer preferences towards digital content and communication methods. The competitive landscape is intense, requiring providers to focus on service innovation, value-added offerings, and customer experience to maintain market share. Future growth will depend on successful 5G deployment, expansion of fiber optic infrastructure, and strategic partnerships to enhance service offerings and affordability. The forecast period from 2025 to 2033 suggests continued market expansion, though at a moderate pace, influenced by economic factors and technological advancements. While the existing player base is strong, the market will likely witness strategic mergers and acquisitions or collaborations to consolidate market share and increase efficiency. The increasing penetration of mobile money and digital financial services also presents an opportunity for telecom operators to integrate financial services into their offerings, driving additional revenue streams. Investment in cybersecurity infrastructure will become crucial to address growing concerns related to data privacy and security in the increasingly digital landscape. A focus on providing affordable and reliable high-speed internet access to underserved rural areas will be vital for inclusive growth in the Costa Rican telecom sector.
