The inflation rate for the Retail Price Index (RPI) in the United Kingdom was 4.3 percent in May 2025, down from 4.5 percent in the previous month. From 2021 onwards, prices in the UK rose rapidly, with the RPI inflation rate peaking at 14.2 percent in October 2022. Although inflation fell in subsequent months, it wasn't until July 2023 that inflation fell below double digits, and as of late 2024, the RPI rate was still above three percent. The CPI and CPIH While the retail price index is still a popular method of calculating inflation, the consumer price index (CPI) is the current main measurement of inflation in the UK. There is also an additional price index, which includes some extra housing costs, known as the Consumer Price Index including homer occupiers' costs (CPIH) index, which is seen by the UK's Office of National Statistics as the official inflation rate. As of December 2024, the CPI inflation rate stood at 2.5 percent, while the CPIH rate was 3.5 percent. Core inflation down in 2024 Another way of measuring inflation is to strip out the volatility of energy and food prices and look at the underlying core inflation rate. As of December 2024, this was 3.2 percent, slightly higher than the overall CPI rate, but more aligned with the overall figure than it was in 2022 and 2023. When inflation peaked at 11.2 percent in October 2022, for example, core inflation stood at just 6.5 percent. After energy prices in 2023 fell relative to 2022, the overall inflation rate in the UK declined quite rapidly, with core inflation overtaking the overall rate in July 2023. During the most recent period of high inflation, core inflation peaked at 7.1 percent in May 2023, and while taking longer to fall than the overall figure, has generally been declining since then.

Presentation slides from the Interagency Data Team meeting. The Interagency Data Team is a community of data analysts, or agency liaisons, who convene regularly with representation from DC agencies of all persuasions. Participants engage in discussions regarding the team’s core mission and priorities for a better kind of data culture – collection, application, sharing, classification and governance to name a few. The team is coordinated by the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), lead by the Chief Data Officer (CDO), and directly supports the District of Columbia's Data Policy.

The Who does What Where (3W) is a core humanitarian coordination dataset. It is critical to know where humanitarian organizations are working, what they are doing and their capability in order to identify gaps, avoid duplication of efforts, and plan for future humanitarian response (if needed). The data includes a list of humanitarian organizations by district and cluster, as well as a unique count of organizations. An interactive map of the 3W data can be accessed here.

During this quarter, most efforts were devoted to completing collection of field data from black-shale sections in order to meet a scheduled milestone at the end of December. Fourteen sections were described and measured, 12 from the outcrop belt on the eastern flank of the Cincinnati and two from the Pine Mountain outcrop belt. Five of Linda Provo's seven radioactive units were traced along the outcrop belts where possible. At the southern end of each outcrop belt, the units became increasingly difficult to differentiate, due to marked thinning on approaching the Cincinnati Arch. This thinning is evident from north to south in that successive basal units drop out southward. In northern parts of the outcrop belt, the basal unit in the black shale is unit 5, but in the southernmost section, unit 3 is the basal unit. Both units 5 and 4 have pinched out in the intervening distance. Work is also continuing on the petrographic study of core material and on the well-log inventory. Initial examination and point counting is nearly complete. Microfacies are being identified in the core, but all interpretations are preliminary. The well-log inventory for two more counties, Powell and Wolfe, were completed and the inventory for Magoffin has been started. An isopach map of unit 1 (Cleveland Shale Mbr.) from the northeastern part of the state, where the inventory is complete, has also been started. A study of the clay-mineral stratigraphy from selected cores and outcrops has also been started in conjunction with the geochemical group. Abstracts of reports containing project data and information on new techniques are included. (JRD)
