    Description

Deutsche Bank's workforce has undergone significant changes over the past two decades, with employee numbers fluctuating from a low of 68,849 in 2006 to a peak of 102,062 in 2010. As of 2024, the bank employed 89,753 people worldwide, reflecting a gradual reduction from the 100,000-employee average maintained since 2010. This shift in workforce size may be indicative of broader strategic changes within the organization. Geographic distribution of revenues Despite the reduction in workforce, Deutsche Bank continues to generate substantial revenues across various regions. In 2024, Germany remained the bank's primary revenue source, contributing approximately 12.1 billion euros. The Americas and the United Kingdom also played significant roles, generating around six billion euros and 4.5 billion euros, respectively. This global distribution of revenue streams underscores the bank's international presence and diversified operations. Performance indicators and business segments Deutsche Bank's financial performance has shown volatility in recent years. The return on equity (ROE) reached its highest point at 34.8 percent in the third quarter of 2015 but experienced a significant downturn, reporting a value of 0.6 percent in the last quarter of 2024. Despite these challenges, certain business segments have remained strong. In 2024, the investment banking segment led revenue generation with over 10 billion euros, closely followed by private banking at 9.4 billion euros. These figures suggest that while the bank faces overall performance pressures, specific divisions continue to drive substantial income.

    Description

Investment bankers and brokers are expected to perform well throughout 2024. The industry has grown at a CAGR of 3.9% to $379.9 billion over the past five years, including an anticipated decrease of 1.7% in 2024 alone, with profit falling to 31.7% of revenue in the current years. Revenue from the industry's debt and equity underwriting segments increased drastically over 2020 and 2021 as companies and governments needed to raise cash quickly. Also, the industry encountered greater demand from SPAC IPOs in 2020 and 2021 which significantly grew revenue in the same years. In addition, economic uncertainty spiked as a result of health policy measures implemented by governments leading to increased market volatility. As a result, investors repositioned their portfolios and industry operators' revenue benefitted from increased trade activity due to volatility in financial markets over the past five years. Large investment banks have focused on consolidating their systems to reduce trading costs, which has limited declines in overall industry profit. The regulatory environment has also constrained the potential for higher revenue growth and has primarily affected bulge bracket banks across developed countries. To remain competitive, smaller boutique banks have seized this opportunity by increasing the focus on advisory services since it is difficult to compete on the basis of scale with large banks. As a result, of significant competition from larger players, smaller players have been forced to exit the industry and market share concentration for larger banks has climbed at the global level. While revenue from trading and related services is expected to dissipate from its temporarily elevated levels, revenue from underwriting and advisory services is expected to limit overall revenue declines. In addition, advisory service revenue is expected to support revenue during the outlook period. Geopolitical tensions remain at elevated levels due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which could negatively affect demand for industry services. Lastly, developments regarding regulation have the potential to further hinder industry revenue. Overall, the industry is forecast to fall at a CAGR of 0.4% to $372.6 billion over the five years to 2029.

    Description

Germany fell short of the automobile introduction in comparison to the U.S.A. for a long time, despite its leading position in the development of the combustion engine and automotive technology. The author applies an explanation that is consistent market-based and ascribes differences in the demand to different costs and benefits of the automobile use. Determinants of automobile demand for example are settlement patterns, the income levels or the transport policy treats. Furthermore, the author describes the development of Germany’s passenger car industry until 1933. Main topics include the development of production and sales, the "American threat", the trade policy, rationalization and concentration of the German automotive industry and the importance of this sector for the armaments industry. 2014 - 2029
    Area covered
    Germany
    Description

In the last five years, the mortgage lending sector has seen negative growth. During this period, industry turnover fell by an average of 3.8% per year, meaning that it is expected to amount to 6.5 billion euros in 2024. This nevertheless corresponds to an increase of 3.1% compared to the previous year. As in all sectors dedicated to the provision of financial services, industry turnover, which in this sector is made up of interest and commission income, was negatively impacted by the low level of interest rates. However, the mortgage banks were able to hold their own comparatively well on the market thanks to their favourable refinancing options. Thanks to their comparatively low default risk, Pfandbriefe have become increasingly popular with institutional investors such as insurers in recent years.Industry sales in 2024 will be influenced by the recent increases in the key interest rate by the European Central Bank (ECB). The sector can also build on the high demand for real estate in Germany, which is primarily based on ongoing urbanisation and positive economic growth. The ECB resumed its bond-buying programme in 2020 and expanded it during the coronavirus crisis, allowing real estate banks to refinance themselves at favourable conditions. At the same time, the price of Pfandbriefe has risen thanks to the increased demand for them, which has had a positive impact on this sector. Competition in the market for property loans will remain strong in 2024, meaning that price competition is likely to intensify in the current year.IBISWorld expects industry turnover to increase by an average of 3.4% annually over the next five years, so that it is likely to amount to 7.7 billion euros in 2029. Interest income in particular is expected to increase due to rising interest rates on the capital markets. However, commission income is likely to fall over the next five years as price competition continues to intensify. The search for ways to increase efficiency is likely to lead to an increased reduction in the number of employees.
