    Description

Abstract Tourist activity occurs in a selective and fragmented manner in space. On the coast of Piauí, this fragmentation process has produced two types of territorialization: used territories versus territories neglected by tourism. This research aimed to identify and characterize these territories, considering the densification and / or dispersion of the tourist infrastructure. The methodology employed is a dialogical approach to interpret the spatial organization and its relationship with the tourist segments observed on the coast of Piauí, using Excel and ArcGis 10.1 software to systematize data. The analyses carried out identified how demand influences the organization of tourism infrastructure in some areas of the municipalities. Likewise, the existing organization of infrastructure and tourist services has also shaped visitor profiles in these areas, forming territories used and / or neglected by tourism. It is hoped that this study can inform decision-making by local public authorities concerning the social and environmental impacts of tourism activities.

    Description

Abstract This study aims to analyze the natural environmental of the island of Porto Belo, in Santa Catarina, and its relationship with the tourism complex in the island. We expect to make a methodological and empirical contribution to research on tourism sustainability, as the findings suggest a relationship between the ecosystem and the processes related to the attractions of the destination. This is a descriptive study, using both qualitative and quantitative methodology, based on a systemic approach. The technical procedures were divided into three stages: literature, documentary, and field survey; mapping and crossing; summary and results. The Geographic Information System (GIS) was the instrument used in the identification, sizing and systemic analysis of landscape units of the island. The originality of this study lies in ranking the natural and social environment systems from the mapping of the stability of landscape units, as well as in the identification of spaces and infrastructures that can be requalified in order to improve the services on the island. This result and the discussion of its contribution to the sustainable management of leisure and recreation activities on the island are original contributions to the state-of-the art to tourism research Brazil.

    Description

This data folder contains the dataset and script in order to replicate the analyses conducted in the paper entitled "Identifying spatial overlap in the values of locals, domestic- and international tourists to protected areas". Nature-based tourism is increasingly encouraged to support local socioeconomic development in and around protected areas, but managing protected areas for tourism could challenge existing park uses associated with self-organized outdoor recreation and local resource use. We used a web-based Public Participatory Geographic Information System (PPGIS) to identify the most important places and values of local, domestic, and international visitors to Jotunheimen National Park and Utladalen Protected Landscape in Norway. Scenic and recreation values were prioritized by all groups, but local users mapped more values relating to hunting, fishing, gathering and cultural identity. While the three user groups overlapped in some places, we found that they self-segregated to some extent. Our study affirms the importance of spatially explicit analyses to support protected area management. Understanding the spatial distribution of values held by different user groups can aid in designing tourism management strategies that minimize intergroup conflict.

    Description

Maps published for tourism promotion and information constitute a particular sub-group of tourist maps made using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This paper proposes a methodological protocol for the systematic elaboration of tourism mapping. This procedure is applied to the design of the tourist map of the province of Huesca. The cartographic tool was designed based on the needs of tourism promotion by the Public Administration, seeking the halfway point between persuasion and precision when representing elements on the map. Given that data would have to be updated and modified in the future, open-source software was used so that the administration can then run, modify and update it. In addition, the project was validated through surveys to two different audiences (general and expert).

    Personalized Travel Maps Market Outlook

According to our latest research, the global personalized travel maps market size reached USD 2.41 billion in 2024, demonstrating robust expansion driven by increasing demand for unique travel experiences and digital innovation. The market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 12.8% from 2025 to 2033, with the total market size forecasted to reach approximately USD 7.03 billion by 2033. This remarkable growth is primarily attributed to the rising trend of customization in travel planning, the proliferation of digital platforms, and the growing influence of social media on travel behavior.

A significant growth factor for the personalized travel maps market is the evolving preference among travelers for tailor-made experiences. Modern consumers, particularly millennials and Gen Z, increasingly seek journeys that reflect their individual interests and personalities. This shift has compelled map providers to offer highly customizable map solutions, ranging from aesthetic design choices to the integration of personal photos, itineraries, and travel stories. The popularity of sharing travel experiences on social media platforms has further fueled the demand for visually appealing and interactive maps, transforming them from mere navigational tools into cherished keepsakes and storytelling mediums. As a result, companies that offer easy-to-use customization interfaces, diverse design options, and seamless integration with digital platforms are witnessing substantial growth and customer retention.

Furthermore, the integration of cloud-based platforms and mobile applications has made it easier for users to access, edit, and share their personalized maps anytime and anywhere, thereby increasing the market’s accessibility and appeal.

Another key driver is the growing collaboration between map producers, travel agencies, and tourism boards. Many destination marketing organizations (DMOs) and travel brands are leveraging personalized travel maps as a strategic tool to enhance visitor engagement and promote local attractions. By offering customized maps that highlight unique points of interest, cultural landmarks, and off-the-beaten-path experiences, these organizations are able to provide added value to tourists and differentiate themselves in a competitive market. This trend is particularly pronounced in regions with a strong focus on experiential tourism, such as Europe and North America, where travelers are willing to invest in premium and advanced map customization services.

From a regional perspective, North America currently dominates the personalized travel maps market, accounting for over 35% of the global revenue in 2024, followed closely by Europe at 29%. The Asia Pacific region is emerging as the fastest-growing market, with a projected CAGR of 15.3% during the forecast period, driven by increasing internet penetration, a burgeoning middle class, and rising outbound tourism. Latin America and the Middle East & Africa are also witnessing gradual adoption, supported by growing tourism infrastructure and digital transformation initiatives. These regional dynamics underscore the global nature of the personalized travel maps market and highlight the diverse opportunities for market players across different geographies.

    Description

As one of the most wealth-generating industries in the world, tourism has been the center of attention by many governments worldwide. Depending on the purpose of tourism, it has been classified into different types, one of which is ecotourism. Given that ecotourism currently accounts for a small part of the whole, however, it has a rapid growth rate. The present study aims at zoning suitable areas in Ilam, a province in western Iran, for ecotourism development purposes. Accordingly, the digital maps of elevation, slope, land cover/land use, mineral springs, and water resources were prepared, at first. Afterwards, the suitable and unsuitable areas were segregated by Boolean functions. Overlaying the map layers by GIS software, the suitable areas were identified. The obtained results revealed that the top attractions are mainly distributed from the northern and central province to the southeastern parts where climatic condition is favorable, and rich in natural land cover and water resources. Moreover, the southern and western parts were evaluated poor in term of eco-tourist attractions.

    Description

The interactive map creation tools market is experiencing robust growth, driven by increasing demand for visually engaging data representation across diverse sectors. The market, estimated at $2.5 billion in 2025, is projected to witness a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 15% from 2025 to 2033, reaching approximately $7.8 billion by 2033. This expansion is fueled by several key factors. The rising adoption of location-based services (LBS) and geographic information systems (GIS) across industries like real estate, tourism, logistics, and urban planning is a major catalyst. Businesses are increasingly leveraging interactive maps to enhance customer engagement, improve operational efficiency, and gain valuable insights from geospatial data. Furthermore, advancements in mapping technologies, including the integration of AI and machine learning for improved data analysis and visualization, are contributing to market growth. The accessibility of user-friendly tools, coupled with the decreasing cost of cloud-based solutions, is also making interactive map creation more accessible to a wider range of users, from individuals to large corporations. However, the market also faces certain challenges. Data security and privacy concerns surrounding the use of location data are paramount. The need for specialized skills and expertise to effectively utilize advanced mapping technologies may also hinder broader adoption, particularly among smaller businesses. Competition among established players like Mapbox, ArcGIS StoryMaps, and Google, alongside emerging innovative solutions, necessitates constant innovation and differentiation. Nevertheless, the overall market outlook remains positive, with continued technological advancements and rising demand for data visualization expected to propel growth in the coming years. Specific market segmentation data, while unavailable, can be reasonably inferred from existing market trends, suggesting a strong dominance of enterprise-grade solutions, but with substantial growth expected from simpler, more user-friendly tools designed for individuals and small businesses.

    Description

This polygon featureclass represents the spatial extent and boundaries for the Travel Management Plan (TMP) polygons of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Travel Management Areas and Plans (TMAP) feature-dataset. When a TMA polygon has an actual TMP Start Date, a TMP polygon is created. The TMA polygon can have a proposed or actual TMP Completion Date. Once a TMP polygon is created, then the TMP Completion Date attribute on the TMA poly layer is required in order to track the progress of the proposed TMP. In 2020, the BLM Arizona State Office (ASO) Geospatial Information System (GIS) team initiated geoprocessing steps for off-highway vehicle (OHV) and TMA footprints within the TMAP feature-dataset. This effort was executed in order to establish more precise arc and polygon footprints. Please see the Lineage section of this metadata for information regarding changes to the tmap_tmp_poly.
