    Description

On 1 April 2025 responsibility for fire and rescue transferred from the Home Office to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

This information covers fires, false alarms and other incidents attended by fire crews, and the statistics include the numbers of incidents, fires, fatalities and casualties as well as information on response times to fires. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) also collect information on the workforce, fire prevention work, health and safety and firefighter pensions. All data tables on fire statistics are below.

MHCLG has responsibility for fire services in England. The vast majority of data tables produced by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government are for England but some (0101, 0103, 0201, 0501, 1401) tables are for Great Britain split by nation. In the past the Department for Communities and Local Government (who previously had responsibility for fire services in England) produced data tables for Great Britain and at times the UK. Similar information for devolved administrations are available at https://www.firescotland.gov.uk/about/statistics/">Scotland: Fire and Rescue Statistics, https://statswales.gov.wales/Catalogue/Community-Safety-and-Social-Inclusion/Community-Safety">Wales: Community safety and https://www.nifrs.org/home/about-us/publications/">Northern Ireland: Fire and Rescue Statistics.

    Description

Government Transportation Financial Statistics is no longer being updated by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics as of June 2024!

It is being replaced by our new product, Transportation Public Financial Statistics (TPFS) which provides more granularity by expanding the categories of revenues and expenditures. The new dataset can be found: https://data.bts.gov/Research-and-Statistics/Transportation-Public-Financial-Statistics-TPFS-/6aiz-ybqx/about_data

Further information about the TPFS can be found at: https://www.bts.gov/tpfs

The government plays an important role in the U.S. transportation system, as a provider of transportation infrastructure and as an administrator and regulator of the system. The government spends a large amount of funds on building, rehabilitating, maintaining, operating, and administering the infrastructure system. Government revenue generated from several sources including user fees, taxes from transportation and non-transportation-related activities, borrowing, and grants from federal, state, and local governments primarily supports these activities.

Government Transportation Financial Statistics (GTFS) provides a set of maps, charts, and tables with information on transportation-related revenue and expenditures for all levels of government, including federal, state, and local, and for all modes of transportation.

Related tables can be found in National Transportation Statistics, Section 3.D - Government Finance (https://www.bts.gov/topics/national-transportation-statistics).

For further information, data definitions, and methodology, see https://www.bts.gov/gtfs

    Description

The US government is a major producer of economic and financial data, statistics, analysis, and forecasts that are gathered, compiled, and published as public goods for use by citizens, government agencies, researchers, nonprofits, and the business community. There is no market transaction in the publication and dissemination of these government data and therefore no market-determined value. The purpose of this paper is to outline and augment our understanding of the value of government data for business decision-making. We provide an overview of the topic, including results from government reports and a private sector survey. We then provide concrete examples of how these government data are used to make business decisions focusing on three sectors: automotive, energy, and financial services. Examples of new initiatives by the federal government to open access to more data, exploiting technology advances associated with the internet, cloud storage, and software applications, are discussed. With the significant growth in the digital economy, we also include discussion and insights around how digital platform companies utilize government data in conjunction with their privately generated data (or "big data") to foster more informed business decisions.

    Description

This table contains information on the finances of the general government sector. The terms and definitions used are in accordance with the framework of the National Accounts. The National Accounts are based on the international definitions of the European System of Accounts (ESA 2010). Small temporary differences with publications of the National Accounts may occur due to the fact that the government finance statistics are sometimes more up to date.

Data available from: Yearly figures from 1995, quarterly figures from 1999.

Status of the figures: The figures for the period 1995-2022 are final. The quarterly figures for 2023 are provisional. The annual figures for 2023 are final. The figures for 2024 and 2025 are provisional.

Changes as of 26 March 2026: Data on the fourth quarter of 2025 and annual data on 2025 are available. The figures for 2024 and the first three quarters of 2025 have been revised. Revenue and expenditure of the general government sector in 2024 have been revised due to new information. The figures presented as a percentage of GDP have also been revised, because GDP for 2024 has been revised. (Seasonal adjusted) government revenue, (seasonal adjusted) government expenditure, (seasonal adjusted) balance of general government, fiscal burden, final consumption expenditure, net saving have been adjusted.

Changes as of 10 April 2025: Due to an error made while processing the data, the initial preliminary figures for government expenditure in 2024 were calculated incorrectly, which means that the figure published for the general government balance was also incorrect. It concerns a decrease in government expenditure. Therefore, the general government balance is 2.3 billion euros higher than originally reported. This means the government deficit is equivalent to 0.9 percent of GDP, rather than the 1.1 percent published previously. (Seasonal adjusted) government revenue, (seasonal adjusted) government expenditure and (seasonal adjusted) balance of general government have been adjusted.

When will new figures be published? Initial quarterly figures are published three months after the end of the quarter. In September the figures on the first quarter are revised, in December the figures on the second quarter are revised and in March the first three quarters are revised. Yearly figures are published for the first time three months after the end of the year concerned. Yearly figures are revised two times: 6 and 18 months after the end of the year. Please note that there is a possibility that adjustments might take place at the end of March or September, in order to provide the European Commission with the latest figures. Revised yearly figures are published in June each year. Quarterly figures are aligned to revised years at the end of June. More information on the revision policy of National Accounts can be found under 'relevant articles' under paragraph 3.

    Description

General government data are vital to monitor budgetary policy and public finances of EU Member States. They provide the basis for economic assessments, policy recommendations and an open dialogue.

The statistical tables on general government data include historical series and the latest economic forecasts of the European Commission. Tables are derived from AMECO, the macroeconomic working database of the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs. The original main data source is Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

    • General government data tables show the yearly unadjusted time-series for the general government transactions and balances of Member States and the EU/Euro area as a whole.

    • Cyclical adjustment of budget balances shows for the general government of each Member State and the EU/Euro area as a whole: total revenue, total expenditure and net lending or borrowing.

For each of these accounts, actual data, the cyclical component and cyclically adjusted data are presented. Actual GDP, potential GDP, trend GDP and output gaps are also presented.

Notes on Local Authority Housing Statistics (LAHS) open data

These datafiles contain the underlying data used to create the main LAHS tables and reflect the latest revisions to historical LAHS data. There will therefore be some minor discrepancies when compared to individual historical publications of LAHS tables.

LAHS questions are represented in this open data file by the question codes as recorded in the latest form (the 2024-25 return). This may differ from the code they were originally assigned, but the aim is to facilitate a time series analysis. Variables that have been discontinued are usually not included in this file, with only a few exceptions where they provide information that helps understand other data.

A data dictionary for this open data can be found in the accessible Open Document Spreadsheet file.
