Assam had the highest pig population across India, at over two million in 2019. Jharkhand ranked second that year, followed by Meghalaya. Pig population across the country declined by over 12 percent between 2012 and 2019. Furthermore, livestock population amounted to nearly 535.8 million with cattle, buffaloes and goats making up the largest share.
