We provide the replication code for the paper titled "Minimum Legal Drinking Age and Educational Outcomes". In this paper, we study the impact of raising the minimum legal drinking age (MLDA) from 16 to 18 on adolescent outcomes in Spain. We exploit the staggered timing of these reforms across Spanish regions to identify causal effects. We find that MLDA increases reduced alcohol consumption among 14-17 year-olds by 7 to 17%, improved exam performance by 4% of a standard deviation, and decreased the use of anxiolytics and hypnosedatives by 10%. These results suggest that reducing teenage alcohol access can significantly improve educational outcomes and mental health. The replication package includes all code necessary to reproduce the tables and figures in the paper. While the raw data are subject to confidentiality restrictions and cannot be redistributed in this package, all datasets can be obtained directly from the original providers following the detailed access procedures documented below.

This indicator measures the share of children or students who achieve minimum proficiency in reading or mathematics by the end of a given education level. At the end of primary education, minimum reading proficiency means students can identify key ideas in simple texts and connect them to their own experiences. In mathematics, it means demonstrating number sense and computation, basic measurement, interpreting simple graphs, spatial orientation, and number patterns.
Data comes from international assessments such as TIMSS, PIRLS, or PISA, combined with completion and enrollment data from surveys or statistical models.

TwitterWith over half a million students, comprehensive schools accounted for the largest educational institution in Finland in 2025. These schools provide elementary education and include primary schools (grades 1 to 6) and secondary schools (grades 7 to 9). The region of Uusimaa with the highest number of pupils Uusimaa, Finland's most populous region with the capital city Helsinki, had over 500 comprehensive schools. Consequently, with roughly 180,600 pupils, the region also had the highest number of children attending primary and secondary schools. Finland’s PISA performance declining Finland is globally acknowledged as one of the top countries when it comes to the education system. The Nordic country ranked first in the quality of primary education in 2017/18, passing countries such as Singapore and Belgium. However, while the pupils in the country perform well overall, the student performance according to the PISA score has decreased since 2009. Furthermore, the gender gap in PISA scores of girls and boys has widened in recent years.
