Among the reasons to use Telegram, ** percent of the platform’s users reported to learn the majority of the news from Telegram. After the announcement that WhatsApp was going to release a new privacy policy update was met with criticism in 2021, Telegram's audience and popularity spiked, bringing global downloads to *** million. Telegram security criticism Despite claiming to be more secure than other mainstream messengers such as Line or WhatsApp, Telegram has been frequently criticized by industry experts such as German consumer organization Stiftung Warentest or the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). One of the key points of criticism is Telegram’s failure to provide automatic end-to-end encryption (WhatsApp and LINE messenger have end-to-end encryption set up by default).

India was the leading market of Telegram by app downloads. Throughout 2024, Indian users installed the messaging app approximately 100 million times. Brazil recorded the largest number of downloads among Latin American countries. France and Germany were the leading markets in Western Europe. Telegram usage in India Telegram had the fourth-highest penetration rate among social media platforms in India, following WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. In the third quarter of 2023, more than ** percent of Indian active social media users reported having used Telegram over the past month. However, user engagement on Telegram in India was significantly lower than on other major networks. On average, Indian users spent *** hours per month on the platform in 2021, which was ** times shorter than on WhatsApp. Growing popularity of Telegram As of July 2024, Telegram had *** million active users around the globe, having multiplied its audience tenfold since December 2014. In the fourth quarter of 2024, Telegram registered 32.19 million downloads in the Europe, the Middle East, and African region, while users in the Asia-Pacific region registered over 32 million downloads in the examined period.

In November 2024, users worldwide spent an average of over **** hours per month using the messenger app Telegram. Users in Russia spent almost ***** hours on average using the popular social and communication app, while users in Singapore spent around **** hours monthly on the app.

Eight out of ten Russians aged 12 to 24 years accessed Telegram on average per day in the first seven months of 2024. Thus, Telegram's reach was the highest in that age group, followed by users from 25 to 34 years old.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, Telegram generated 3.73 million downloads in Brazil, a relatively steady value since the second quarter of 2022, but less than half of its peak of 9.85 million downloads in the first quarter of 2021. These data are Telegram's comments of over eight professional Telegram channels about cryptocurrencies from December 2023 to March 2024. The theory of Behavioral economics shows that the opinions of people, especially experts, can impact the stock market trend (here, cryptocurrencies). Existing databases often cover tweets or Telegram's comments on one or more cryptocurrencies. Also, in these databases, no attention is paid to the user's expertise, and most of the data is extracted using hashtags. Failure to pay attention to the user's expertise causes the irrelevant volume to increase and the neutral polarity considerably. This database has a main table with eight columns. Researchers can use this dataset in various machine learning tasks, such as sentiment analysis and deep transfer learning with sentiment analysis. Also, this data can be used to check the impact of influencers' opinions on the cryptocurrency market trend. The use of this database is allowed by mentioning the source. Furthermore, we have added Python code to extract Telegram's comments. We used the RoBERTa pre-trained deep neural network and BiGRU deep neural network with an attention layer-based HDRB model(https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10292644) for sentiment analysis.

The DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos) event refers to a meteorological phenomenon that caused significant flooding and damage in the region. The channels selected for data collection were those recommended by Telegram starting from the channel Alvise Pérez, one of the most followed ones in Spain. The selection process was limited to channels that could be reached within three steps from this initial channel.
