    This layer shows children by nativity of parents by age group. This is shown by tract, county, and state centroids. This service is updated annually to contain the most currently released American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year data, and contains estimates and margins of error. There are also additional calculated attributes related to this topic, which can be mapped or used within analysis. This layer is symbolized to show the count and percentage of children who are in immigrant families (children who are foreign born or live with at least one parent who is foreign born). For state and county boundaries, the water and coastlines are derived from the coastlines of the 2023 500k TIGER Cartographic Boundary Shapefiles.     In 2023, it is estimated that about two million Brazilians lived in the United States. Of these, half a million lived in the state of New York. The largest community resided in the state of Florida, with around 590,000 Brazilians divided between the consulate in Miami and the consulate in Orlando. Brazil-U.S. relations In 2024, Brazil and the United States celebrated 200 years of diplomatic relations. The countries cooperate in various sectors, but the economy stands out the most, as the United States was Brazil's second-largest trading partner in 2023. The trade between these countries amounted to over 74 billion dollars in that year. This proximity between the countries is appreciated by Brazilian citizens, who mostly have a good image of the North American country. U.S. Brazilian imports The value of U.S. imports of Brazilian origin has grown in recent decades. After a decline in 2020, the value of imports increased by around eight billion U.S. dollars and, in 2023, the United States imported approximately 39 billion U.S. dollars’ worth of Brazilian goods. This was the highest level of Brazilian imports since 1985. Furthermore, the imports of agricultural products from Brazil totaled nearly 6.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2023.

    DESCRIPTION Migration refers to the movement of people from one location to another, typically crossing a county or regional boundary. Migration captures both voluntary relocation – for example, moving to another region for a better job or lower home prices – and involuntary relocation as a result of displacement. The dataset includes metropolitan area, regional, and county tables.

    METHODOLOGY NOTES (across all datasets for this indicator) Data for migration comes from the American Community Survey; county-to-county flow datasets experience a longer lag time than other standard datasets available in FactFinder. 5-year rolling average data was used for migration for all geographies, as the Census Bureau does not release 1-year annual data. Data is not available at any geography below the county level; note that flows that are relatively small on the county level are often within the margin of error. The metropolitan area comparison was performed for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area, in addition to the primary MSAs for the nine other major metropolitan areas, by aggregating county data based on current metropolitan area boundaries. Data prior to 2011 is not available on Vital Signs due to inconsistent Census formats and a lack of net migration statistics for prior years. Only counties with a non-negligible flow are shown in the data; all other pairs can be assumed to have zero migration.

    Given that the vast majority of migration out of the region was to other counties in California, California counties were bundled into the following regions for simplicity: Bay Area: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, Sonoma Central Coast: Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz Central Valley: Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, Tulare Los Angeles + Inland Empire: Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura Sacramento: El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo, Yuba San Diego: San Diego San Joaquin Valley: San Joaquin, Stanislaus Rural: all other counties (23)

    One key limitation of the American Community Survey migration data is that it is not able to track emigration (movement of current U.S. residents to other countries). This is despite the fact that it is able to quantify immigration (movement of foreign residents to the U.S.), generally by continent of origin. Thus the Vital Signs analysis focuses primarily on net domestic migration, while still specifically citing in-migration flows from countries abroad based on data availability.

    The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age cohorts. For age cohorts we divided it into three buckets Children ( Under the age of 18 years), working population ( Between 18 and 64 years) and senior population ( Over 65 years).     About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset tabulates the Acushnet town population by age cohorts (Children: Under 18 years; Working population: 18-64 years; Senior population: 65 years or more). It lists the population in each age cohort group along with its percentage relative to the total population of Acushnet town. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution across children, working population and senior population for dependency ratio, housing requirements, ageing, migration patterns etc.

    Description

    Local Getis-Ord Gi* statistics were calculated as a measure of residential segregation. Measures were calculated at the census tract level based on the proportion of non-Hispanic White, non-Hispanic Black, non-Hispanic Asian [and Pacific Islander for 1990 and 2000 census], Hispanic, and immigrant persons (regardless of country of origin; 2008-2012 only) per census tract. Gi* statistics are Z-scores that compare the proportion of the population in the focal tract and its neighboring tracts to the average proportion of a larger geographic unit. For the majority of tracts, the larger geographic unit was the Core-Based Statistical Area (CBSA) these tracts belonged to. The county was used as the larger unit for tracts that fell outside the boundaries of a CBSA.Data for the measures were obtained from the IPUMS National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) data finder. Data were downloaded for the 1990 and 2000 census, and the 2006-2009, 2008-2012 (Immigrant segregation only), 2010-2014, and 2015-2019 5-year American Community Survey (ACS) estimates. Geographically standardized time series tables were used for 1990 and 2000 census data. All other ACS data were standardized to 2010 census tract boundaries.G*statistics were calculated using both Rook and Queen conceptualization of spatial relationships. With Rook contiguity, neighbors are determined by those that share a common edge only, while Queen contiguity neighbors are those that share both an edge or a "corner" (common vertex).     This map shows where native children where one or both parents are immigrants. Data is from the American Community Survey (ACS). These are 5-year estimates shown by tract, county, and state centroids. Arcade was used to calculate the percentage of children in immigrant families (native children who live with at least one parent who is foreign born).This map uses these hosted feature layers containing the most recent American Community Survey data. These layers are part of ArcGIS Living Atlas, and are updated every year when the American Community Survey releases new estimates, so values in the map always reflect the newest data available.
