Here is an ArcGIS Pro style with light and dark gradient fills and shadow/glow effects that you can apply to map text via the "Text fill symbol" picker in your label pane. Level up those labels! This web map contains the same layers as the 'Imagery with Labels' basemap that is available in the basemap gallery in the ArcGIS applications but also adds the World Transportation map serviceThe World Transportation map service shows streets, roads and highways and their names. When you zoom in to the highest level of detail the lines disappear and you just see the street names and road numbers. The 'Imagery with Labels' basemap contains the World Imagery map service and the World Boundaries and Places map service, so when you use that basemap you get boundaries and places, but you don't get streets and roads at small scales or street and road labels at large scale. So by adding the World Transportation map service into your map as well you get those too.Want to use this map as the basemap for your own web map? If you have not created your web map yet, simply open this map and then do Save As to save a copy of it as your own map, and then make changes to it like zooming in and adding more data. If you have already created your web map, open it and choose the Imagery With Labels basemap from the Basemap dropdown. Then add the World Transportation service into your map by searching for it. This 'Imagery with Labels and Transportation' web map shows you what this looks like. The World Transportation map service is designed to be drawn underneath the World Boundaries and Places map service, as you can see in this web map.In this web map, we have set the Transportation layer with partial transparency to make the transportation network less prominent relative to the imagery. You can manipulate the level of transparency that you use for the basemap and reference layers in the web maps that you create.     This web map contains the same layers as the Imagery with Labels basemap that is available in the basemap gallery of ArcGIS.com's map viewer, ArcGIS Explorer Online, ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, and the mobile clients. The Imagery with Labels basemap contains the World Imagery map service with the Boundaries and Places map service drawn on top. When you use this basemap in a web map, any map services that you add into the map get sandwiched between the imagery and the labels drawn on top, so this is a good basemap you use if you want to see services that don't contain their own labels with imagery drawn behind them and reference labels drawn on top.This web map also includes the World Transportation map service.     The National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDplus) maps the lakes, ponds, streams, rivers and other surface waters of the United States. Created by the US EPA Office of Water and the US Geological Survey, the NHDPlus provides mean annual and monthly flow estimates for rivers and streams. Additional attributes provide connections between features facilitating complicated analyses. Esri recommends updating your maps and apps to phase out use of this item.This map presents transportation data, including highways, roads, railroads, and airports for the world.The map was developed by Esri using Esri highway data; Garmin basemap layers; HERE street data for North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South America and Central America, India, most of the Middle East and Asia, and select countries in Africa. Data for Pacific Island nations and the remaining countries of Africa was sourced from OpenStreetMap contributors. Specific country list and documentation of Esri's process for including OSM data is available to view.You can add this layer on top of any imagery, such as the Esri World Imagery map service, to provide a useful reference overlay that also includes street labels at the largest scales. (At the largest scales, the line symbols representing the streets and roads are automatically hidden and only the labels showing the names of streets and roads are shown). Imagery With Labels basemap in the basemap dropdown in the ArcGIS web and mobile clients does not include this World Transportation map. If you use the Imagery With Labels basemap in your map and you want to have road and street names, simply add this World Transportation layer into your map. It is designed to be drawn underneath the labels in the Imagery With Labels basemap, and that is how it will be drawn if you manually add it into your web map.

    This web map consists of vector tile layers that form a detailed basemap for the world, featuring a neutral style with content adjusted to support environment, landscape, natural resources, hydrologic and physical geography layers. The layers in this map provide unique capabilities for customization, high-resolution display and offline use in mobile devices. They are built using the same data sources used for other Esri basemaps.This web map consists of 4 vector tile layers: A vector tile reference layer for the world with administrative boundaries and labels; populated places with names; ocean names; topographic features; and rail, road, park, school, and hospital labels. A vector tile surface water layer for the world with rivers, lakes, streams, and canals with respective labels. A vector tile watersheds boundaries. A vector tile base layer for the world with vegetation, parks, farming areas, open space, indigenous lands, military bases, bathymetry, large scale contours, elevation values, airports, zoos, golf courses, cemeteries, hospitals, schools, urban areas, and building footprints. Designed by Emily Meriam, this map can be used as a basemap for overlaying other layers of information or as a stand-alone reference map. You can add layers to this web map and save as your own map. Fully display the content of this multisource map using Map Viewer, or current versions of Runtime and ArcGIS Pro.     This web map provides a customized world basemap uniquely symbolized. It takes its inspiration from a printed atlas plate and pull-down scholastic classroom maps. The map emphasizes the geographic and political features in the design. This vector tile layer is built using the same data sources used for the World Topographic Map and other Esri basemaps. The use of country level polygons are preassigned with eight different colors. It also includes the global graticule features as well as landform labels of physical features. This map is designed for use with and includes the shaded relief layer.     This webmap is a subset of OpenStreetMap (OSM) landuse areas data for Australia and Oceania Feature Service for Pacific Region. The feature layer provides access to OpenStreetMap (OSM) landuse areas data for Australia and Oceania, which is updated every 15 minutes with the latest edits so as this WebMap. This hosted feature layer view is referencing a hosted feature layer of OSM polygon (closed way) data in ArcGIS Online that is updated with minutely diffs from the OSM planet file. This feature layer view includes landuse features defined as a query against the hosted feature layer (i.e. landuse is not blank).In OSM, landuse describes the primary use of land by humans. These features are identified with a landuse tag. There are thousands of different tag values for landuse used in the OSM database. In this feature layer, unique symbols are used for several of the most popular landuse types, while lesser used types are grouped in an "other" category.Zoom in to large scales (e.g. City level or 1:80k scale) to see the landuse area features display. You can click on a feature to get the name of the landuse area (if available). The name of the landuse area will display by default at large scales (e.g. Street level of 1:5k scale).     Soil map units are the basic geographic unit of the Soil Survey Geographic Database (SSURGO). The SSURGO dataset is a compilation of soils information collected over the last century by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Map units delineate the extent of different soils. Data for each map unit contains descriptions of the soil’s components, productivity, unique properties, and suitability interpretations.Each soil type has a unique combination of physical, chemical, nutrient and moisture properties. Soil type has ramifications for engineering and construction activities, natural hazards such as landslides, agricultural productivity, the distribution of native plant and animal life and hydrologic and other physical processes. Soil types in the context of climate and terrain can be used as a general indicator of engineering constraints, agriculture suitability, biological productivity and the natural distribution of plants and animals. Here is an ArcGIS Pro style with light and dark gradient fills and shadow/glow effects that you can apply to map text via the "Text fill symbol" picker in your label pane. Level up those labels! Make them look touchable. Glassy. Shady. Intriguing.Find a how-to here.Save this style, add it to your ArcGIS Pro project, then use it for any text (including labels).**UPDATE**I've added a symbol that makes text look like is being illuminated from below, casting a shadow upwards and behind.
