This is the ONS Postcode Directory (ONSPD) for the United Kingdom as at February 2024 in Comma Separated Variable (CSV) and ASCII text (TXT) formats. This file contains the multi CSVs so that postcode areas can be opened in MS Excel. To download the zip file click the Download button. The ONSPD relates both current and terminated postcodes in the United Kingdom to a range of current statutory administrative, electoral, health and other area geographies. It also links postcodes to pre-2002 health areas, 1991 Census enumeration districts for England and Wales, 2001 Census Output Areas (OA) and Super Output Areas (SOA) for England and Wales, 2001 Census OAs and SOAs for Northern Ireland and 2001 Census OAs and Data Zones (DZ) for Scotland. It now contains 2021 Census OAs and SOAs for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It helps support the production of area-based statistics from postcoded data. The ONSPD is produced by ONS Geography, who provide geographic support to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and geographic services used by other organisations. The ONSPD is issued quarterly. A dataset of all the meta-data for all of the datasets available through the data.gov.uk service. This is provided as a zipped CSV or JSON file. It is published nightly.

From 13/10/16 we added .v2.jsonl dump, which is set to replace the .json dump (which will be discontinued after a 3 month transition). This is produced using 'ckanapi dump'. It provides an enhanced version of each dataset ('validated', or what you get from package_show in CKAN API v3 - the old json was the unvalidated version). This now includes full details of the organization the dataset is in, rather than just the owner_id. Plus it includes the results of the archival & qa for each dataset and resource, showing whether the link is broken, detected format and stars of openness. It also benefits from being json lines http://jsonlines.org/ format, so you don't need to load the whole thing into memory to parse the json - just a line at a time.

On 12/1/2015 the organizations of the CSV was changed:

• Before this date, each dataset was one line, and resources added as numbered columns. Since a dataset may have up to 300 resources, it ends up with 1025 columns, which is wider than many versions of Excel and Libreoffice will open. And the uncompressed size of 170Mb is more than most will deal with too. It is suggested you load it into a database, ahandle it with a python or ruby script, or use tools such as Refine or Google Fusion Tables.

• After this date, the datasets are provided in one CSV and resources in another. On occasions that you want to join them, you can join them using the (dataset) "Name" column. These are now manageable in spreadsheet software.

A lookup between local authority districts (LAD) and regions in England as at 31 December 2015 (File Size 18KB).

The dataset comprises scanned images of maps and aerial photographs of the Falkland Islands. The original maps are printers films and final paper printed originals of Falkland Islands OS maps, compiled for the Falkland Islands Government and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office by the Overseas Directorate of the Ordnance Survey. The Falkland Islands Government retains copyright interest in the maps. There are no access or usage constraints for BGS staff for BGS purposes. The field slips of geological maps were compiled by BGS under contract to the Falkland Islands Government. Copyright remains with the Falkland Islands Government , but there are no access or usage constraints for BGS staff for BGS purposes. Access to both datasets are restricted to BGS staff.

Reports of 267 mineral exploration projects carried out in the UK under the Mineral Exploration and Investigation Grants Act (MEIGA). Produced by external mineral exploration companies between 1971 and 1984. Includes project files kept on behalf of DTI (Department of Trade and Industry). All reports are held in hard copy and all are now on openfile.

Tell Me Scotland is a portal for accessing public information notices issued by local authorities across Scotland.

The site allows users to:

• Search for public notices such as planning and licensing in an area
• Check roadworks and restrictions on any chosen route
• Search archived notices across the country
• Register to receive alerts by text or email on notices in an area
• Select an area on the map, or from the list below to view notices in that area

This service is supported by an API that allows REST queries returning data in JSON or XML format.

The API allows GET requests for notices in bulk, individually, by type (Planning, Traffic, General, Licensing and Councillor Surgeries) and also details and lists of organisations.

The API also allows POST request for upload of notices by authorised users and organisations.

In order to access the data via the API, a TellMeScotland account is required with REST read-only permissions and associated authorisations.

It is also possible to register individually for notice alerts, or to view the website as an unregistered user, but this does not allow direct access to the API.

This method returns the council tax band and the corresponding council tax figure.

Council tax bands are retrieved for each individual property, with tax values derived from levels set by local authorities. Figures include adult social care and parish precepts.

Address Format Recommendations

This method utilises sophisticated heuristics to match the searched property address to the council tax database. In 99% of cases, a match is found. However, please follow the recommendations below to achieve the best results:

1. The address should be sufficient to identify the exact property. If several properties correspond to the input, the method will return an error.
2. Best results are achieved when using the address derived from the SINGLE_LINE_ADDRESS field of the OS AddressBase datasets.
3. If you do not utilise OS AddressBase datasets, please include the following data: Flat, BuildingName, BuildingNumber, StreetName, Town or PostTown, Postcode.

We suggest using commas as delimiters as shown in this example. Some data points may not exist for each particular address. In this case, simply ignore them.

The MOT history API gives authorised third-party organisations a way to access MOT test history information for vehicles.

All data dictionaries held in Oracle. They include both administrative (e.g. codes for companies), scientific (e.g. codes for deformation episodes) and geographic (e.g. codes for countries). Typically, they are used to constrain the allowable values held in other Oracle datasets. In some cases they are an implementation of the classifications that the BGS uses in its work.

An important paper archive of a wide variety of miscellaneous geological information organised on the basis of its location within 1:50 000 scale geological map sheet areas in Great Britain. The majority of the data has been produced or collected by BGS staff since 1835 as part of the mapping programme. The data may not fit into any of the main collections, but is valuable for future projects and answering enquiries.

The Environment Agency has updated its groundwater vulnerability map to reflect improvements in data mapping, modelling capability and understanding of the factors affecting vulnerability. Two new maps are available which show the vulnerability of groundwater to a pollutant discharged at ground level. The potential impact of groundwater pollution is considered using the aquifer designation status which provides an indication of the scale and importance of groundwater for potable water supply and/or in supporting baseflow to rivers, lakes and wetlands. This dataset has shared IP (Intellectual Property) between Environment Agency and British Geological Survey. It supersedes the previous Groundwater Vulnerability 100k data released by EA.

This dataset contains tabulated production, consumption and trade data on minerals in the UK together with authoritative commentary on current developments in the minerals industry. Data are supplied from official sources, companies and trade associations. Where data cannot be acquired, estimates are given. In addition to UK (country) data, statistics are also given at planning region level and, for certain minerals, at county level. Units of measurements are tonnes, kilograms or carats, according to commodity. Value is also provided for imports and exports. The information will be of value to all those interested in Britain's minerals. The data captured by BGS spans from 1973 onwards and is updated annually.

NIGL (NERC Isotope Geosciences Laboratories) is a comprehensive stable and radiogenic isotope laboratory facility that undertakes environmental, life, archaeological and earth science research, and educates and trains PhD students, in a collaborative research environment. This dataset contains a complete record of publications and scientific reports involving NIGL staff, dating from the formation of the group in 1987. The published research is not geographically restricted.

Annotated Scottish 1 inch scale maps. Printed topography with hand annotated fossil locations and geology with hand drawn cross sections, colour-wash with index and observations. Considered working material towards published geological maps.

The BGS Geoscience Thesaurus contains approximately 6000 descriptor terms for concepts in the geoscience and related subjects. Some entries have scope notes to further explain the term. The original source of the data was the Australian Mineral Foundation thesaurus of geoscience; some terms have been added or updated to suit BGS needs and the content will continue to be updated as required. The thesaurus includes synonyms to descriptor terms, hierarchical relationships, symmetric (see also) relationships and lapsed (deprecated) term replacements.

Data from geophysical surveys in many African countries carried out by the British Geological Survey for different agencies. The surveys range from regional gravity and airborne magnetic mapping to targetted surveys for mineral and water. Individual surveys do not yet have metadata entries: this entry describes a notional database that represents all geophysical surveys carried out within the region.
