The NSW Imagery web service provides access to a repository of the Spatial Services (DCS) maintained standard imagery covering NSW, plus additional sourced imagery. It depicts an imagery map of NSW showing a selection of LANDSAT® satellite imagery, standard 50cm orthorectified imageries, High resolution 10cm Town Imageries. It also contains high resolution imageries within multiple areas of NSW within DFSI, Spatial Services maintained projects and captured by AAM, VEKTA and Jacobs (previously SKM). The image web service is updated periodically when new imageries are available. The imageries are shown progressively from scales larger than 1:150,000 higher resolution imagery overlays lower resolution imagery and most recent imagery overlays older imagery within each resolution. The characteristics of each image such as accuracy, resolution, viewing scale, image format etc varies by sensor, location, capture methodology, source and processing. For specific information about the metadata for the imagery used, please refer to the individual data series within the NSW Data Catalogue. As a consequence of the variety of source data, each map displayed by the user within this map service may have a number of copyright permissions. | Description | Imagery is the product created from the use of airborne, space borne or terrestrial sensors. These technologies image the surface of the Earth to allow for the visualisation of land surface features.
Imagery includes data sourced from satellite, aircraft and vehicle mounted sensors. These technologies have a range of capabilities that includes but is not limited to, the ability to record multispectral and hyperspectral data and produce products such as orthorectified mosaics and stereo-viewable imagery. Spatial Service’s standard imagery capture program covers the entire state of NSW. Standard coverage imagery is captured and processed at a 50cm Ground Sample Distance (GSD) and is available as either 5km x 5km image modules or mosaiced to the extent of a 1:100,000 Mapsheet. Spatial Services town imagery program covers regional townships across the state of New South Wales. Town imagery is captured and processed at Ground Sampling Distance (GSD) of 10cm and is available as 1.25km x 1.25km image modules or mosaicked to the extent of the imagery capture. Spatial Services Web Map Services: Stereo Viewable ADS imagery (2006 to present) - Airborne Digital Sensor Stereo Strips. The 2017 Landuse captures how the landscape in NSW is being used for food production, forestry, nature conservation, infrastructure and urban development. It can be used to monitor changes in the landscape and identify impacts on biodiversity values and individual ecosystems. The NSW 2017 Landuse mapping is dated September 2017. This is version 1.2 of the dataset, published June 2020. Version 1.2 of the 2017 Landuse incorporates fine scale mapping of the Greater Sydney Metropolitan Region. It also includes updates and known fixes to the dataset. The 2017 Landuse is based on Aerial imagery and Satellite imagery available for NSW. These include, but not limited to; digital aerial imagery (ADS) captured by NSW Department of Customer Service (DCS), high resolution urban (Conurbation) digital aerial imagery captured on behalf of DCS, SPOT 5, 6 & 7(Airbus), Planet™, Sentinel 2 (European Space Agency) and LANDSAT (NASA) Satellite Imagery. Mapping also includes commercially available imagery from Nearmap™ and Google Earth™, along with Google Street View™.

TwitterThe NSW SPOT6/7 imagery product is a state-wide satellite imagery product provided by Geoimage Pty Ltd for NSW Government. The images were captured September 2022 through to March 2023. The imagery scenes used to create the NSW mosaic includes Lord Howe Island. This imagery data set has been acquired through GeoImages Pty Ltd and Airbus Defence and Space. SPOT imagery products offer high resolution over broad areas using the SPOT 6/7 satellites. A SPOT satellite acquisition covers large areas in a single pass at resolutions up to 1.5m. Such precise coverage is ideal for applications at national and regional scales from 1:250,000 to 1:15,000. SPOT 6/7 also includes the benefits of the near-infrared (NIR) which enables applications for detection of features not visible to the human eye, such as detecting and monitoring vegetation health.

Rocky reef polygons were delineated from bathymetry data for the NSW seabed. Bathymetry data was sourced from marine lidar data, multibeam echosounder data and aerial imagery. Reef polygons were extracted from the seabed landforms polygons for the statewide marine lidar and multibeam surveys for Wollongong and Shellharbour (See below for associated SEED records). For the remaining areas, reef polygons were sourced from the ‘NSW subtidal marine habitat layer’ on SEED which included reef polygons manually digitised from multibeam surveys acquired from 2005-2017. \r \r Sources of reef polygons: \r https://datasets.seed.nsw.gov.au/dataset/nsw-seabed-landforms-derived-from-marine-lidar-data-2022\r https://datasets.seed.nsw.gov.au/dataset/wollongong-seabed-landforms-derived-from-mbes-data-2022\r https://datasets.seed.nsw.gov.au/dataset/shellharbour-seabed-landforms-derived-from-mbes-data-2022\r https://datasets.seed.nsw.gov.au/dataset/nsw-marine-habitat-data

It is emphasised that the user should check the use constraints for each image data series.
