    Description

We collected aerial imagery from coastal wetlands along the north shore of Lake Ontario during the winter of 2014 in both 2D orthorectified and 3D stereoscopic formats for the purpose of identifying and counting muskrat houses. We compared muskrat house counts obtained from imagery to counts recorded by ground survey crews in the same wetlands during the same winter to investigate the accuracy of aerial imagery as an alternative muskrat survey method. Muskrat house count data is organized by wetland and by randomly selected 1-ha cells within each wetland. Counts obtained by ground surveys, 2D aerial orthoimagery examination by two independent observers (ortho obs 1 and 2), and 3D stereoscopic (stereo) imagery examination are recorded for each cell. This data supports Greenhorn, J.E., C.S. Sadowski, J.A. Rodgers, and J. Bowman. 2024. The use of orthoimagery and stereoscopic aerial imagery to identify muskrat (Ondatra zibethicus) houses. Orthophotography is considered foundational data and can be used in GIS analysis, remote sensing analysis, mapping, asset management, environmental management, planning, and for background reference data. The imagery products described in this metadata record are not open data. By accepting the End-User Licence, you agree to become a licensee bound by the licence’s terms and conditions (please read the custom licence). Land Information Ontario coordinates public and private sector organizations to collect high resolution aerial imagery for Ontario through a partnership funding model. For more information and to order imagery products please refer to the How to Order Imagery Guide and the Imagery Order Form.South Central Ontario Orthophotography Project (SCOOP) was acquired in the spring of 2018 and 2019 under the best conditions possible to achieve cloud free, snow free, ice free, smoke free and leaf off captures. The orthophotography has a pixel resolution of 16 centimetres and is accurate within 45 centimetres on the ground. Time of Capture: March 22, - May 23, 2018 and May 6th - May 27th, 2019Coverage: 38,920 square kilometresCanopy Coverage: Leaf-OffResolution: 16 centimetreBit-depth: 8-bitNumber of Image bands: Four band (RGBN)Accuracy: Within 45 centimetres on the ground at 95% confidence.Format: GeoTIFF (and compressed GeoTIFF)Participants to share in the cost of acquisition with the Ontario government are being sought and can include public, private, First Nations and non-government organizations. Participants get access to their imagery products of interest as soon as they are available. The acquisition area spans two Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zones of UTM Zone 17 and UTM Zone 18. View the acquisition area for each zone by clicking the links near the bottom of this record. A new page opens and you may need to zoom in to see the individual one kilometre squared tiles. Description

Land Information Ontario, as well as most municipalities in southwestern Ontario and a number of other public and private sector organizations collaborated to acquire digital orthophotography for approximately 42,000 square kilometres of land in southwestern Ontario. These digital orthoimages provide full-colour aerial coverage for most of southwestern Ontario. The library has all the counties covered by SWOOP. These images were flown in April 2006 by First Base Solutions and provided to the Geospatial Centre by Land Information Ontario through the Ontario Geopatial Data Exchange in October 2006. The horizontal accuracy specification for the acquisition was set to be within 45cm of the actual location 95% of the time.
