    Description

In 2023, Vietnam's agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector accounted for approximately ***** percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). Prior to 2020, the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector had a decreasing GDP contribution due to the growing significance of Vietnam’s industry and service sectors. Main agriculture products in Vietnam Vietnam has transformed from a net importer to a net exporter of agricultural products after its trade liberalization and agriculture reforms in the 1980s. The country has become one of the leading producers and exporters of many important commodities, such as rice, coffee, pepper, and cashew nuts. For instance, Vietnam has kept its place as the second-largest exporter of coffee after Brazil. On the other hand, with growing domestic demand, agricultural product imports have been increasing in the country, with seafood products and fresh fruits and vegetables being the leading imported goods. Outlook of the agriculture sector in Vietnam Vietnam’s agriculture sector is heavily subjected to climate change-related issues, such as annual droughts and increasing salination. This affects the production of many of its commodities, including rice, one of the most important agricultural export products. The volume of rice produced in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s main rice-cultivating area, has been fluctuating in recent years. Consequently, the government and farmers have been working on finding solutions to adapt agricultural production to the changing climate and land conditions.
