This means that revenue from alcohol-related taxes fell by 1.5 percent compared to the previous year. This figure shows the total revenue from alcohol tax (until 2017 spirits tax), beer tax, sparkling wine tax, intermediate products tax and alcopop tax. Taxes are compulsory levies that the state collects from citizens and companies. Tax revenue is the largest and most important source of income for public coffers in Germany.

    The southern city of Puducherry had the highest excise duty share of 34 percent on the state tax revenue from alcoholic beverages in India during the financial year 2022. Comparatively, the state of Karnataka had an excise duty share of 22 percent in the same period.

    Alcohol market outlook

    The overall Indian alcohol market includes Indian-made Indian liquor (IMIL), Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), wine, beer, and imported alcohol. The size of the IMFL market was approximately 20 billion U.S. dollars during the financial year 2021, with an anticipated growth trend. On the contrary, the IMIL segment was projected to reach about 350 million cases by the year 2025. One case of alcohol consists of 12 bottles, different sizes of bottles are available depending on the case.

    The State Health Policy Research Dataset (SHEPRD) covers annual state trends in the adoption of public health laws between 1980 and 2010, inclusive. As described in the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), laws of interest were seatbelt laws, speed limits for passenger vehicles on rural interstates, minimum legal drinking ages, drunk driving laws, laws prohibiting the purchase of alcohol on Sundays, regulations for registering purchased kegs and/or prohibitions against selling kegs, beer taxes and total alcohol tax revenues, motorcycle and bicycle helmet laws, cigarette taxes, cigarette advertising bans, bans on workplace smoking, bans on smoking in restaurants and bars, and tobacco taxes (total revenue). The dataset also contains annual data on social, economic, demographic, health care, political, and crime characteristics for each state.
