    Description

A feature class describing the spatial location of the administrative boundary of the lands managed by the Forest Supervisor's office. An area encompassing all the National Forest System lands administered by an administrative unit. The area encompasses private lands, other governmental agency lands, and may contain National Forest System lands within the proclaimed boundaries of another administrative unit. All National Forest System lands fall within one and only one Administrative Forest Area. This dataset is derived from the USFS Southwestern Region ALP (Automated Lands Program) data Project. This is one of six layers derived from ALP for the purpose of supplying data layers for recourse GIS analysis and data needs within the Forest Service. The six layers are Surface Ownership, Administrative Forest Boundary, District Boundary, Townships, Sections, and Wilderness. There were some gapes in the ALP data so a small portion of this dataset comes from CCF (Cartographic Feature Files) datasets and the USFS Southwestern Region Core Data Project. ALP data is developed from data sources of differing accuracy, scales, and reliability. Where available it is developed from GCDB (Geographic Coordinate Data Base) data. GCDB data is maintained by the Bureau of Land Management in their State Offices. GCDB data is mostly corner data. Not all corners and not all boundaries are available in GCDB so ALP also utilizes many other data sources like CFF data to derive its boundaries. GCDB data is in a constant state of change because land corners are always getting resurveyed. The GCDB data used in this dataset represents a snapshot in time at the time the GCDB dataset was published by the BLM and may not reflect the most current GCDB dataset available. The Forest Service makes no expressed or implied warranty with respect to the character, function, or capabilities of these data. These data are intended to be used for planning and analyses purposes only and are not legally binding with regards to title or location of National Forest System lands.

    Description

This dataset contains the White Mountain National Forest Boundary. The boundary was extracted from the National Forest boundaries coverage for the lower 48 states, including Puerto Rico developed by the USDA Forest Service - Geospatial Service and Technology Center. The coverage was projected from decimal degrees to UTM zone 19. This dataset includes administrative unit boundaries, derived primarily from the GSTC SOC data system, comprised of Cartographic Feature Files (CFFs), using ESRI Spatial Data Engine (SDE) and an Oracle database. The data that was available in SOC was extracted on November 10, 1999. Some of the data that had been entered into SOC was outdated, and some national forest boundaries had never been entered for a variety of reasons. The USDA Forest Service, Geospatial Service and Technology Center has edited this data in places where it was questionable or missing, to match the National Forest Inventoried Roadless Area data submitted for the President's Roadless Area Initiative. Data distributed as shapefile in Coordinate system EPSG:26919 - NAD83 / UTM zone 19N.

    Description

This layer includes both Proclaimed Forest and National Grassland boundary areas. A Proclaimed Forest boundary is the boundary encompassing National Forest System land within a national forest that is set aside and reserved from the public domain by executive order or proclamation; congressional action is required to terminate a proclaimed boundary; if, at some point in time, no National Forest System land remains within the proclaimed boundary, then there is no legal significance to the proclaimed boundary, however, its legal status remains. National Grasslands are lands designated "National Grasslands" by the Secretary of Agriculture and permanently held by the Department of Agriculture for administration under Title III of the Bankhead-Jones Farm Tenant Act.Download via FSGeodata ClearinghouseThis record was taken from the USDA Enterprise Data Inventory that feeds into the https://data.gov catalog. Description

This layer file consists of three related datasets:
    - Statutory boundary polygons of State Forests
    - Lands managed by the Division of Forestry within the statutory boundaries, known as Management Units
    - Lands managed by the Division of Forestry outside of the statutory boundaries, known as Other Forestry Lands

    State Forests - Statutory Boundaries:
This theme shows the boundaries of those areas of Minnesota that have been legislatively designated as State Forests ( http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_forests/index.html )

Minnesota's 58 state forests were established to produce timber and other forest crops, provide outdoor recreation, protect watersheds, and perpetuate rare and distinctive species of native flora and fauna. The mapped boundaries are based on legislative/statutory language and are described in broad terms based on legal descriptions. Private or other ownerships included inside a State Forest boundary are typically NOT identified in legislative language and subsequently are NOT mapped in this layer. It is important to note that these data do not represent public ownership. State Forest boundaries often include private land and should not be used to determine ownership. Ownership information can be found in State Surface Interests Administered by MNDNR or by Counties ( https://gisdata.mn.gov/dataset/plan-stateland-dnrcounty ) and the GAP Stewardship 2008 layer ( http://gisdata.mn.gov/dataset/plan-gap-stewardship-2008 ).

Data has been updated during 2009 by the MNDNR Forest Resource Assessment office.

    State Forests - Management Units
This theme shows the land owned and managed by the Division of Forestry within the Statutory Boundaries. The shapes were derived mostly from county parcel data, where available, and from plat maps and other ownership resources. This data presents an approximate location of the land ownership and is intended for cartographic purposes only. It is not survey quality and should never be used to resolve land ownership disputes.

State Forests - Other Forest Lands
This theme shows State Forest lands outside of the State Forest Statutory Boundaries. It was derived from MNDNR's Land Records System PLS40 data layer. Sub-40 shapes are not represented. Partial PLS40 ownership is represented as a whole PLS40. This data is not survey quality and should never be used to resolve land ownership disputes.

This dataset contains the common names of the national forests and grasslands and their respective FS WWW URL information that is used for both display of the national forest and national grassland boundaries on any map product and for dynamic interactivity of the map. This dataset exhibits the following characteristics: 1. Granularity of the polygon features - The spatial extent of the national forests and the grasslands match the way the agency would like to communicate with the public. 2. Preferred /Common Name of the National Forest Units - The common names of the national forest and grassland match the preferred name column that is present in the common names decision table maintained by the FS Office of Communication. 3. Hyperlinks to FS WWW Home page - This column contains the national forest and their respective FS WWW URL information. This URL could be used on any interactive map applications to link users directly to a forest's home page. Data Source - This dataset is derived from the following FS ALP (Automated Lands Program) Land Status Records System authoritative data sources: 1. Administrative Forest Boundaries 2. Proclaimed Forest Boundaries 3. Ranger District Boundaries 4. National Grassland Areas. The common names decision table maintained by the FS Office of Communication contains the common name and its respective Land Status Records System authoritative data source to be used for building the spatial polygon. The spatial polygons for every feature in this dataset comes from one or more authoritative data sources listed above. The process to create the common names dataset is reusing the already existing ALP names from the data sources listed above. This record was taken from the USDA Enterprise Data Inventory that feeds into the https://data.gov catalog. Description

This data publication contains a shapefile of points created from 1930s maps of the first land grants within the Monongahela National Forest (MNF) proclamation boundary. Corner or witness trees are those trees listed in a land survey to describe the survey corner for future re-establishment of the corner or property line. Witness trees listed in the deeds were added as attributes to the digital point locations. Deed dates range from 1752 to 1899. If no trees were listed in the deed to witness the corner, the corner was created in the point file, but no species was assigned. The deeds and surveys were created under the metes and bounds method of land survey common in the colonial era. The entire area was not surveyed in any systematic method as is found in the Western United States so there are areas of the MNF with no witness trees. Also included are the scanned images of the maps used to create the database of corner points. Each map covers a portion of the Monongahela National Forest, WV and includes latitude and longitude reference lines. On each map are the individual parcels of land drawn by draftsmen in the 1930s from the original deeds or grants. With each tract is the name of the grantee, the data of the deed or grant, the size of the tract of land (in acres), and a unique identification number that references the deed/grant from which the sketch was made. This data publication also includes two location maps (north and south) showing the location and area covered by the individual map sheets. The base map is a 1936 map of the Monongahela National Forest, WV produced by the USDA Forest Service. This database was developed to help characterize the forest at the time of European settlement.Original metadata date was 10/09/2014. Scanned images of the maps used to create the database of corner points were added on 09/15/2016 along with a few minor metadata updates.

Minor metadata updates on 12/13/2016 and 09/16/2024 (which included URL updates for related articles).

    Description

The purpose of this featureclass is to allow national forest system boundary managers to query and report on the status of these boundaries for planning boundary management and maintenance work, and to provide this information to anyone else needing this information for analysis, querying, reporting, mapping. The lines should indicate the current status of the physical marked and posted lines in the field, and their maintenance status. Surface Management Agency (SMA) lines represent the surveyed boundary lines for which the Forest Service is responsible for marking and posting. These include the boundaries between NFS lands and non-NFS lands and the boundaries of congressionally designated areas such as National Wilderness. Description

This file contains a feature class depicting National Forest System land parcels that have a Congressionally designated boundary. Examples include National Wilderness Area, Primitive Area, or Wilderness Study Area. There were some gaps in the ALP data so a small portion of this dataset comes from CCF (Cartographic Feature Files) datasets and the USFS Southwestern Region Core Data Project. ALP data are developed from data sources of differing accuracy, scales, and reliability. Where available they are developed from GCDB (Geographic Coordinate Data Base) data. GCDB data are maintained by the Bureau of Land Management in their State Offices. GCDB data are mostly corner data. Not all corners and not all boundaries are available in GCDB so ALP also utilizes many other data sources like CFF data to derive its boundaries. GCDB data are in a constant state of change because land corners are always being resurveyed. The GCDB data used in this dataset represents a snapshot in time when the GCDB dataset was published by the BLM and may not reflect the most current GCDB dataset available. The Forest Service makes no expressed or implied warranty with respect to the character, function, or capabilities of these data. These data are intended to be used for planning and analyses purposes only and are not legally binding with regard to title or location of National Forest System lands.

    Description

Geospatial Services Land management within the US Forest Service and on the 900,000+ acre Monongahela National Forest (NF) is driven by a wide mix of resource and societal demands that prove a challenge in fulfilling the Forest Service’s mission of “Caring for the Land and Serving the People.” Programmatically, the 2006 Land and Resource Management Plan guide natural resource management activities on lands administered by the Monongahela National Forest. The Forest Plan describes management direction and practices, resource protection methods and monitoring, desired resource conditions, and the availability and suitability of lands for resource management. Technology enables staff to address these land management issues and Forest Plan direction by using a science-based approach to facilitate effective decisions. Monongahela NF geospatial services, using enabling-technologies, incorporate key tools such as Environmental Systems Research Institute’s ArcGIS desktop suite and Trimble’s global positioning system (GPS) units to meet program and Forest needs. Geospatial Datasets The Forest has a broad set of geospatial datasets that capture geographic features across the eastern West Virginia landscape. Many of these datasets are available to the public through our download site. Selected geospatial data that encompass the Monongahela National Forest are available for download from this page. A link to the FGDC-compliant metadata is provided for each dataset. All data are in zipped format (or available from the specified source), in one of two spatial data formats, and in the following coordinate system: Coordinate System: Universal Transverse Mercator Zone: 17 Units: Meters Datum: NAD 1983 Spheroid: GRS 1980 Map files – All map files are in pdf format. These maps illustrate the correlated geospatial data. All maps are under 1 MB unless otherwise noted.
