    Description

The City of Austin provides this zip code dataset for general use, designed to support a variety of research and analysis needs. Please note that while we facilitate access to this data, the dataset is owned and produced by the United States Postal Service (USPS). Users are encouraged to acknowledge USPS as the source when utilizing this dataset in their work. U.S. ZIP Code Areas (Five-Digit) represents five-digit ZIP Code areas used by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail more effectively. The first digit of a five-digit ZIP Code divides the United States into 10 large groups of states numbered from 0 in the Northeast to 9 in the far West. Within these areas, each state is divided into an average of 10 smaller geographical areas, identified by the second and third digits. These digits, in conjunction with the first digit, represent a sectional center facility or a mail processing facility area. The fourth and fifth digits identify a post office, station, branch or local delivery area. This product is for informational purposes and may not have been prepared for or be suitable for legal, engineering, or surveying purposes. It does not represent an on-the-ground survey and represents only the approximate relative location of property boundaries. This product has been produced by the City of Austin for the sole purpose of geographic reference. No warranty is made by the City of Austin regarding specific accuracy or completeness. Census ZIP Code Tabulation AreasThis feature layer, utilizing National Geospatial Data Asset (NGDA) data from the U.S. Census Bureau, displays ZIP Code Tabulation Areas. Per the USCB, “ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) are approximate area representations of U.S. Postal Service (USPS) ZIP Code service areas that the Census Bureau creates to present statistical data for each decennial census. Data users should not use ZCTAs to identify the official USPS ZIP Code for mail delivery. The USPS makes periodic changes to ZIP Codes to support more efficient mail delivery.”Tabulation Area: 90069Data currency: This cached Esri federal service is checked weekly for updates from its enterprise federal source (ZIP Code Tabulation Areas) and will support mapping, analysis, data exports and OGC API – Feature access.Data.gov: Series Information for 2020 Census 5-Digit ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA5) National TIGER/Line Shapefiles, CurrentGeoplatform: Series Information for 2020 Census 5-Digit ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA5) National TIGER/Line Shapefiles, CurrentOGC API Features Link: (Census ZIP Code Tabulation Areas - OGC Features) copy this link to embed it in OGC Compliant viewersFor more information, please visit: ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs)For feedback please contact: Esri_US_Federal_Data@esri.comNGDA Data SetThis data set is part of the NGDA Governmental Units, and Administrative and Statistical Boundaries Theme Community. Per the Federal Geospatial Data Committee (FGDC), this theme is defined as the "boundaries that delineate geographic areas for uses such as governance and the general provision of services (e.g., states, American Indian reservations, counties, cities, towns, etc.), administration and/or for a specific purpose (e.g., congressional districts, school districts, fire districts, Alaska Native Regional Corporations, etc.), and/or provision of statistical data (census tracts, census blocks, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, etc.). Boundaries for these various types of geographic areas are either defined through a documented legal description or through criteria and guidelines. Other boundaries may include international limits, those of federal land ownership, the extent of administrative regions for various federal agencies, as well as the jurisdictional offshore limits of U.S. sovereignty. Boundaries associated solely with natural resources and/or cultural entities are excluded from this theme and are included in the appropriate subject themes."For other NGDA Content: Esri Federal Datasets

    Description

This data set contains zip code tabulation areas for 5-digit zip codes in New Mexico. It was obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau web page http://www.census.gov/geo/www/cob/zt.html. The metadata at this site is so poor that this metadata record has been created. Technical details are available from the technical documentation at http://www.census.gov/geo/ZCTA/zctatddr.pdf. A ZIP Code tabulation area (ZCTA ) is a statistical geographic entity that approximates the delivery area for a U.S. Postal Service five-digit or three-digit ZIP Code. ZCTAs are aggregations of census blocks that have the same predominant ZIP Code associated with the addresses in the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File. Three -digit ZCTA codes are applied to large contiguous areas for which the U.S. Census Bureau does not have five-digit ZIP Code information in its Master Address File. ZCTAs do not precisely depict ZIP Code delivery areas, and do not include all ZIP Codes used for mail delivery. The U.S. Census Bureau has established ZCTAs as a new geographic entity similar to, but replacing, data tabulations for ZIP Codes undertaken in conjunction with the 1990 and earlier censuses.

This feature service is derived from the Esri "United States Zip Code Boundaries" layer, queried to only CA data. For the original data see: https://esri.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=5f31109b46d541da86119bd4cf213848Published by the California Department of Technology Geographic Information Services Team. The GIS Team can be reached at ODSdataservices@state.ca.gov.U.S. ZIP Code Boundaries represents five-digit ZIP Code areas used by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail more effectively. The first digit of a five-digit ZIP Code divides the United States into 10 large groups of states (or equivalent areas) numbered from 0 in the Northeast to 9 in the far West. Within these areas, each state is divided into an average of 10 smaller geographical areas, identified by the second and third digits. These digits, in conjunction with the first digit, represent a Sectional Center Facility (SCF) or a mail processing facility area. The fourth and fifth digits identify a post office, station, branch or local delivery area.As of the time this layer was published, in January 2025, Esri's boundaries are sourced from TomTom (June 2024) and the 2023 population estimates are from Esri Demographics. Esri updates its layer annually and those changes will immediately be reflected in this layer. Note that, because this layer passes through Esri's data, if you want to know the true date of the underlying data, click through to Esri's original source data and look at their metadata for more information on updates.Cautions about using Zip Code boundary dataZip code boundaries have three characteristics you should be aware of before using them:Zip code boundaries change, in ways small and large - these are not a stable analysis unit. Data you received keyed to zip codes may have used an earlier and very different boundary for your zip codes of interest.Historically, the United States Postal Service has not published zip code boundaries, and instead, boundary datasets are compiled by third party vendors from address data. That means that the boundary data are not authoritative, and any data you have keyed to zip codes may use a different, vendor-specific method for generating boundaries from the data here.Zip codes are designed to optimize mail delivery, not social, environmental, or demographic characteristics. Analysis using zip codes is subject to create issues with the Modifiable Areal Unit Problem that will bias any results because your units of analysis aren't designed for the data being studied. As of early 2025, USPS appears to be in the process of releasing boundaries, which will at least provide an authoritative source, but because of the other factors above, we do not recommend these boundaries for many use cases. If you are using these for anything other than mailing purposes, we recommend reconsideration. We provide the boundaries as a convenience, knowing people are looking for them, in order to ensure that up-to-date boundaries are available.

    Description

One of the many challenges that social science researchers and practitioners face is the difficulty of relating United States Postal Service (USPS) ZIP codes to Census Bureau geographies. There are valuable data available only at the ZIP code level that, when combined with demographic data tabulated at various Census geography levels, could open up new avenues of exploration. While some acceptable methods of combining ZIP codes and Census geography exist, they have limitations. To provide additional avenues for merging these data, PD&R has released the HUD-USPS Crosswalk Files. These unique files are derived from data in the quarterly USPS Vacancy Data. They originate directly from the USPS; are updated quarterly, making them highly responsive to changes in ZIP code configurations; and reflect the locations of both business and residential addresses. The latter feature is of particular interest to housing researchers because many of the phenomena that they study are based on housing unit or address. By using an allocation method based on residential addresses rather than by area or by population, analysts can take into account not only the spatial distribution of population, but also the spatial distribution of residences. This enables a slightly more nuanced approach to allocating data between disparate geographies. Please note that the USPS Vacancy Data is constructed from ZIP+4 data that contains records of addresses, it does not contain ZIP+4 data that are associated with ZIP codes that exclusively serve Postal Office Boxes (PO Boxes). As a result, ZIP codes that only serve PO Boxes will not appear in the files. In addition to the crosswalk files, this dataset also includes screenshots of HUDs documentation and FAQ pages.Understanding ZIP Code Crosswalk FilesThough often used for mapping, spatial analysis, and data aggregation careful attention is required when interpreting ZIP Code data relative to other administrative geographies. The following article demonstrates how to more effectively use the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) United States Postal Service ZIP Code Crosswalk Files when working with disparate geographies.Wilson, Ron and Din, Alexander, 2018. “Understanding and Enhancing the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s ZIP Code Crosswalk Files,” Cityscape: A Journal of Policy Development and Research, Volume 20 Number 2, 277 – 294. https://www.huduser.gov/portal/periodicals/cityscpe/vol20num2/ch16.pdfUsing a GIS to Geoprocess ZIP Code Crosswalk FilesThis article demonstrates how to use a GIS to process ZIP Code Crosswalk Files. Description

NOTE: As of 2/16/2023, this page is not being updated. This tables shows the number and percent of people that have initiated COVID-19 vaccination, are fully vaccinated and had additional dose 1 grouped by whether they live in an SVI Priority Zip Code. People with an out-of-state zip code are excluded from this analysis. All data in this report are preliminary; data for previous dates will be updated as new reports are received and data errors are corrected. A person who has received at least one dose of any COVID-19 vaccine is considered to have initiated vaccination. A person is considered fully vaccinated if they have completed a primary vaccine series by receiving 2 doses of the Pfizer, Novavax or Moderna vaccines or 1 dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The fully vaccinated are a subset of the number who have received at least one dose. A person who completed a Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax or Johnson & Johnson primary series (as defined above) and then had an additional dose of COVID-19 vaccine is considered to have had additional dose 1. The additional monovalent dose may be Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax or Johnson & Johnson and may be a different type from the primary series. For people who had a primary Pfizer or Moderna series, additional dose 1 was counted starting August 18th, 2021. For people with a Johnson & Johnson primary series additional dose 1 was counted starting October 22nd, 2021. For most people, additional dose 1 is a booster. However, additional dose 1 may represent a supplement to the primary series for a people who is moderately or severely immunosuppressed. Bivalent booster administrations are not included in the additional dose 1 calculations. SVI refers to the CDC's Social Vulnerability Index - a measure that combines 15 demographic variables to identify communities most vulnerable to negative health impacts from disasters and public health crises. Measures of social vulnerability include socioeconomic status, household composition, disability, race, ethnicity, language, and transportation limitations - among others. SVI scores were calculated for each zip code in CT. The zip codes in the top 20% were designated as SVI Priority Zip Codes. Percentages are based on 2018 zip code population data supplied by ESRI corporation. The percent with at least one dose many be over-estimated and the percent fully vaccinated and with additional dose 1 may be under-estimated because of vaccine administration records for individuals that cannot be linked because of differences in how names or date of birth are reported. Connecticut COVID-19 Vaccine Program providers are required to report information on all COVID-19 vaccine doses administered to CT WiZ, the Connecticut Immunization Information System. Data on doses administered to CT residents out-of-state are being added to CT WiZ jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction. Doses administered by some Federal entities (including Department of Defense, Department of Correction, Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Indian Health Service) are not yet reported to CT WiZ.  Data reported here reflect the vaccination records currently reported to CT WiZ. Note: As part of continuous data quality improvement efforts, duplicate records were removed from the COVID-19 vaccination data during the weeks of 4/19/2021 and 4/26/2021.
