    Description

Apple Pay use in the United States was higher than in France or Canada by early 2024, although not when it came to in-store payments. When comparing two questions from Statista's Consumer Insights, ** out of 100 respondents from France indicated they had used Apple Pay in a store or restaurant - with an additional ** out of 100 saying they used Apple Pay during this same time for online payments. The market share of Apple Pay on websites was also higher in the United States, Canada, and Japan than in Europe. How many Apple Pay users are there per country? Apple rarely shares information on Apple Pay. Its financials place it under the company's Services segment - combining it with figures on the Apple App Store or Apple TV. Local banks that offer Apple Pay are contractually not allowed to share user numbers or transaction counts. Domestic surveys - which are often only done locally and cannot be compared against those of other countries - tend to ask whether consumers use Apple Pay but rarely ask for specific transaction figures. The last available estimate on global Apple Pay users is that over *** million people activated the service on their iPhones. Roughly *** out of 10 Apple Pay users are from the United States. Online versus offline Apple Pay is frequently associated with proximity mobile payments - paying with mobile devices in physical stores using NFC or contactless technology. China is the country with the highest adoption of such tap-to-pay transactions. This technology was noticeably popular in Asia-Pacific, more so than in North America or Europe. The situation was different when looking at Apple Pay acceptance in e-commerce: English-speaking countries - especially the United States - tend to already accept Apple Pay in 2022.

    Description

Apple Pay adoption for in-store payments in the United States was slightly higher in 2024 than it was in early 2020, signaling a growing use among consumers. This is according to two different questions asked throughout multiple surveys from Statista's Consumer Insights. The numbers shown here refer to the share of respondents who indicated they used Apple Pay in the past 12 months, either for POS transactions with a mobile device in stores and restaurants or for online shopping. ** percent of the respondents from the U.S. who used mobile payments indicated they had used Apple Pay in a POS setting between December 2023 and December 2024 - with an additional ** percent saying they used Apple Pay during this same time for online payments. This was below Apple Pay use rates in other countries. Apple Pay vs. other U.S. payment methods Apple Pay faces much competition in the United States in online payments. PayPal was used by nearly one out of 3 total respondents in the country, for instance, in Q4 2024 - or * out of 10 respondents who used online payment methods. Apple Pay ranked slightly lower than Venmo in U.S. online payments, with * out of 10 respondents using it between December 2023 and December 2024. That said, Apple Pay and PayPal share a similar penetration when it comes to mobile proximity, or contactless, payments. U.S. mobile POS payments are expected to get closer to credit cards Apple Pay usage is linked to the overall growth of mobile payments and digital wallets in the United States. By 2027, wallets are expected to be the second-most used payment method in United States POS transactions. Credit cards - traditionally the most used payment method in U.S. brick-and-mortar shops - are to remain in the lead, but the gap would close significantly between 2023 and 2027.

The number of people who use Apple Pay in the United States is expected to grow by ************ between 2022 and 2026, according to estimates. Such estimates are based on what limited information is available on these mobile payment methods, as well as overall trend developments when it comes to smartphone adoption or overall retail spending trends. Companies such as Apple and Google rarely share user figures on their payment methods, making it relatively difficult to estimate how much these contactless payment methods are used.

How many people use Apple Pay? Global iPhone users that activated Apple Pay grew by more than ** million people in 2020. This according to an estimate that also assumes active iPhones grew by **** percent during 2020, alongside a worldwide increase of contactless payments in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Note that the figures are an estimate, as precise figures are unavailable. Apple itself does not communicate user figures, and banks that provide the Apple Pay service are contractually forbidden to share user information. Hence why Apple Pay market shares in, for example, Europe tend to be based on consumer survey results. Which country uses Apple Pay the most? As there is little to no information on a country level regarding Apple Pay use, one could potentially answer this by looking at proximity mobile payments – contactless in-store payments from consumer to merchant, either with a card or a smartphone – at large. It is estimated that China was the global leader in proximity mobile payments in 2019, with a penetration rate that was twice as high as that of runner-up Denmark. It is unlikely, though, that Apple Pay plays a big role in China given the popularity of apps like Alipay and Tenpay. Apple Pay seemingly less used than some of its competitors If China is unlikely to have many Apple Pay users, how is this for Denmark – the country with the second-highest penetration rate in proximity mobile payments? In 2019, Apple Pay was also not one of the most popular payments apps in Denmark: **** percent of Danish respondents said they used the Cupertino payment solution at some point as opposed to ** percent of domestic solution MobilePay. This also holds true for one of the world’s largest payment markets. According to a January 2021 survey, PayPal use among U.S. consumers exceeded other payment options: **** times more respondents stated they at some point used PayPal rather than Apple Pay.

    Description

The study aims to investigate factors influencing Apple Pay adoption, focusing on lifestyle congruence, perceived security, perceived trust, perceived financial control, ease of use, and relative advantage. By applying the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory, it seeks to understand these factors’ contributions to user perception and adoption, providing insights into user behavior and enhancing the effectiveness of digital payment solutions. A survey approach was employed, combining stratified random sampling and convenience sampling to collect data from major cities in Saudi Arabia, targeting Apple-pay users. The survey was distributed online via social media platforms. Data from 221 valid responses were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. The study revealed that the model explains 62.2% of the variance in the intention to use Apple Pay. Key findings include significant impacts of perceived financial control, relative advantage, perceived security, perceived trust, and ease of use on the intention to use Apple Pay. Lifestyle congruence and ease of use influenced usage intentions but not perceived relative advantage. These results underscore the importance of security, trust, and ease of use in driving Apple Pay adoption. The multi-group analysis findings indicate that younger users prioritize security and lifestyle congruence, while females value financial control and lifestyle fit, and males emphasize security and trust in their Apple Pay adoption decisions. This study uniquely integrates the DOI theory and TAM to examine Apple Pay adoption, highlighting the critical roles of perceived financial control, security, and trust. It expands traditional TAM by incorporating financial control, emphasizes security’s impact on trust, and introduces lifestyle congruence as a significant adoption driver. This comprehensive framework provides valuable insights for digital payment adoption.

    Description

The Taiwanese mobile payments market is experiencing robust growth, fueled by increasing smartphone penetration, a young and tech-savvy population, and government initiatives promoting digitalization. The market's Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 17.30% from 2019-2024 suggests a significant expansion, projected to continue into the forecast period (2025-2033). Key drivers include the convenience and speed of mobile payments, coupled with the rising adoption of contactless transactions, particularly amidst health concerns. The proliferation of e-commerce and the increasing integration of mobile payment solutions into everyday life, such as transportation and utility bill payments, are further accelerating market growth. While challenges exist, such as concerns about data security and the need for wider merchant acceptance, particularly in rural areas, these are being addressed through technological advancements and regulatory frameworks. Competition is intense, with both international giants like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Alipay, alongside homegrown players like LINE Pay and Pi Pay, vying for market share. The market segmentation, primarily categorized by payment type (proximity and remote), reflects the diverse preferences and technological capabilities within Taiwan. Future growth will depend on continuous innovation, addressing security concerns, and expanding infrastructure to support seamless transactions across all demographics. The competitive landscape in Taiwan's mobile payments sector is dynamic. Local players like LINE Pay, leveraging its strong social media presence, and Pi Pay, focusing on specific niche markets, are effectively competing with global behemoths. This competition fosters innovation and drives down transaction fees, benefiting consumers. The government's efforts to promote digital financial inclusion are further expanding the market's reach, driving penetration in previously underserved segments. Although precise market sizing data for Taiwan is absent from the provided information, extrapolating from the regional CAGR and considering the relatively high mobile penetration and tech-savviness in Taiwan, a conservative estimate places the 2025 market size for Taiwan between $15 Billion and $20 Billion USD. The sustained growth trajectory suggests a considerable expansion in the coming years, making Taiwan a lucrative market for both established and emerging mobile payment providers. Recent developments include: September 2021 - NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payment Corporation of India, has collaborated with Liquid Group Pte. Ltd. (Liquid Group), a leading cross-border digital payments provider, to enable UPI QR-based payments acceptance in ten markets across North Asia and Southeast Asia. This collaboration ensures that businesses accept UPI QR transactions in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan., August 2021 - Taiwan Mobile Co., Ltd announced a USD 20 million Series E round of funding for Tiki Corp, Vietnam's largest e-commerce startup, strives to build a presence in the rapidly rising Southeast Asian (GSEA) markets. Taiwan Mobile's first strategic investment in Vietnam would assist the firm and its e-commerce subsidiary, Momo.com Inc, in exploring possible partners and new growth opportunities outside its home market.. Key drivers for this market are: Booming E-Commerce Sector Propelling the Taiwan Mobile Wallet Market Growth, Penetration of Smartphones and internet users Will Drive Market Growth; Favorable Government Initiatives. Potential restraints include: Lack of Cybersecurity Professionals, High Reliance on Traditional Authentication Methods and Low Preparedness. Notable trends are: Penetration of Smartphones and internet users Will Drive Market Growth..
