This web map features a vector basemap of OpenStreetMap (OSM) data created and hosted by Esri. Esri produced this vector tile basemap in ArcGIS Pro from a live replica of OSM data, hosted by Esri, and rendered using a creative cartographic style emulating a blueprint technical drawing. The vector tiles are updated every few weeks with the latest OSM data. Data for Pacific Island nations and the remaining countries of Africa was sourced from OpenStreetMap contributors. You can add this layer on top of any imagery, such as the Esri World Imagery map service, to provide a useful reference overlay that also includes street labels at the largest scales. (At the largest scales, the line symbols representing the streets and roads are automatically hidden and only the labels showing the names of streets and roads are shown). Imagery With Labels basemap in the basemap dropdown in the ArcGIS web and mobile clients does not include this World Transportation map. If you use the Imagery With Labels basemap in your map and you want to have road and street names, simply add this World Transportation layer into your map. USGS Imagery Only is a tile cache base map of orthoimagery in The National Map visible to the 1:18,000 scale. Orthoimagery data are typically high resolution images that combine the visual attributes of an aerial photograph with the spatial accuracy and reliability of a planimetric map. USGS digital orthoimage resolution may vary from 6 inches to 1 meter. In the former resolution, every pixel in an orthoimage covers a six inch square of the earth's surface, while in the latter resolution, one meter square is represented by each pixel. Blue Marble: Next Generation source is displayed at small to medium scales. However, the majority of the imagery service source is from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) for the conterminous United States. The data is 1-meter pixel resolution with "leaf-on". Collection of NAIP imagery is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency (FSA). In areas where NAIP data is not available, other imagery may be acquired through partnerships by the USGS. The National Map program is working on acquisition of high resolution orthoimagery (HRO) for Alaska and Hawaii. Most of the new Alaska imagery data will not be available in this service due to license restrictions. The National Map viewer allows free downloads of public domain, 1-meter resolution orthoimagery in JPEG 2000 (jp2) format for the conterminous United States, with many urban areas and other locations at 1-foot (or better) resolution also in JPEG 2000 (jp2) format. This layer package contains GIS data in Esri file geodatabase format. This data is also available for download in shapefile and CAD formats.The Town of Amherst, MA basemap project encompasses the land area of Town of Amherst and University of Massachusetts Campus with a 200 foot fringe surrounding the area. The entire project area has been sub-divided into 5 blocks, viz. Amherst/UMass, Area A (primarily Leverett), Area-B (Shutesbury/Pelham/Belchertown), Area-C (Hadley) and Area D (UMass-owned land at Deerfield). Basemap data was collected at 1" = 40' mapping scale for Amherst (31.1 sq. miles) and Area-D (1.3 sq. miles) using digital photogrammetric techniques. LiDAR data was collected for the entire project area except Area-D to develop 1ft contour data. LiDAR data was supplemented with photogrammetrically collected breaklines, hydro and other terrain features over the Amherst block to generate 1ft contours. For rest of the area the bare earth classified LiDAR data was supplemented with hydro enforced breaklines to generate the 1ft contour data.

This resource contains statewide networks of roadways, railroads, bridges, and low-water crossings, for Texas only.
Roadways detail: The Transportation Planning and Programming (TPP) Division of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) maintains a spatial dataset of roadway polylines for planning and asset inventory purposes, as well as for visualization and general mapping. M values are stored in the lines as DFOs (Distance From Origin), and provide the framework for managing roadway assets using linear referencing. This dataset covers the state of Texas and includes on-systems routes (those that TxDOT maintains), such as interstate highways, U.S. highways, state highways, and farm and ranch roads, as well as off-system routes, such as county roads and local streets. Date valid as of: 12/31/2014. Publish Date: 05/01/2015. Update Frequency: Quarterly.
Bridges detail: As with the roadways, both on-system and off-system bridges are maintained in separate datasets (54,844 total bridges, 36,007 on-system and 18,837 off-system). Bridges have numerous useful attributes, see coding guide [1] for documentation. One such attribute identifies structures that cross water: the second digit of Item 42 “Type of Service”. If the second digit is between 5 and 9 (inclusive) then the structure is over water. The bridges datasets are valid as of December 2016.
The roadways and bridges datasets contained here were obtained directly from TxDOT through personal correspondence. An additional transportation data resource is the Texas Natural Resources Information System (TNRIS) [3]. The railroads and low-water crossings were obtained through TNRIS.
November 2023 updates: in the years since this data archive was first published, TxDOT has developed an open data portal for downloading their roadway inventory and other datasets. Also, in 2023 TNRIS was renamed as the Texas Geographic Information Office (TxGIO). Their datahub [3] is continually evolving, but still has the tnris.org domain for now. We are not updating any of the basemap data in the contents list below, which was current at the time of Hurricane Harvey.

This imagery layer shows national riparian areas for the conterminous United States. Riparian areas are an important natural resource with high biological diversity. These ecosystems contain specific vegetation and soil characteristics which support irreplaceable values and multiple ecosystem functions and are very responsive to changes in land management activities. Delineating and quantifying riparian areas is an essential step in riparian monitoring, planning, management, and policy decisions. USDA Forest Service supports the development and implementation of a national context framework with a multi-scale approach to define riparian areas utilizing free available national geospatial datasets. Why was this layer created? To estimate 50-year flood height riparian areas to support statistical analysis, map display, and model parameterization.Provide a framework and an end product to stakeholders and apply the information into management actions and strategies.Multi-scale approach to provide a national and regional report map.
