    During a search and rescue (SAR) operation, officials don't have time to wait until a GIS specialist is on scene. They need maps immediately. Preconfigured and ready-to-use GIS tools must be available to SAR teams before an incident occurs.

    In this lesson, you'll create a web map to prepare data for search operations. Your map will contain static base data showing regional boundaries and key features, as well as editable layers that can be changed as an incident develops. Then, you'll use the map to create a web app that even non-GIS professionals can use. Finally, you'll use the app to track a fictional SAR mission.

    IMPORTANT: This is the source of the feature layer template in the LearnArcGIS Lesson: Prepare for SAR Incidents and for the MapSAR Solution. If this layer is cloned or copied, the owner of the items needs to update the item details to reflect this. Purpose: This is a feature layer template for use in missing person search operations. It is based on the MapSAR (ArcGIS Desktop) Data Model but simplified for use in web maps and apps. Please see MapSAR GitHub for more information on this project.Maps are at the core of any Search and Rescue (SAR) operation. Geographic information system (GIS) software allows rescue personnel to quickly generate maps that depict specific aspects of the operation and show what is happening on the ground over time. The maps and operations data can be shared over a network to supply an enhanced common operating picture throughout the Incident Command Post (ICP). A team of GIS and SAR professionals from Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team, Esri, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, Yosemite National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and the Mountaineer Rescue Group came together to develop the tools and instructions to fit established SAR workflows. The goal is to meet the critical need to provide standards, documents, and training to the international SAR community and establish more widespread and effective integration of GIS into operations.See Comments below for updates to the data model.

It points to the latest feature layers and is based on the NWCG Wildfire GIS templates.Updates to this project can be found in the Read Me text document in the root folder of the template after downloading. Some patch notes can also be found below in the comments.Special thanks to NIFC and the Wildfire GIS Community for the starting template. For more documentation see NWCG Standards for Geospatial Operations, PMS 936 | NWCGYOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS any incident data unless you are a member of the NSARGC Group.If the template brings you to a screen saying "Invalid Token", you may need to try downloading it again. How to deploy templateThis template is not a traditional ArcGIS Pro template. When you download this template, you are downloading the full folder structure, pre-made map projects, layouts, databases, and tools that have been designed to work alongside SARCOP. This "template" does not use the "Create a project from a template" workflow within Pro, rather you are downloading the full project, and it can be modified as you see fit from there. Below are the recommended steps to take to deploy the template.Download the template anywhere on your PC by clicking the Download button on the top right below Sign In and Overview. This will download as a Zipped folder, likely to your Downloads folder.Go to the C drive of your computer and create a new folder called "Incidents", then create another folder within that Incidents folder with the name of the incident you are using the template for. For example, if the incident name is "Hurricane Lisa", the folder path should look something like "C:\Incidents\2024xxxx_HurricaneLisa".Extract the zipped folder contents from step 1 to that new incident folder you created in step 2. In the Hurricane Lisa example, data would be extracted to C:\Incidents\2024xxxx_HurricaneLisa.Go to the newly extracted folders and find the Projects folder. Open that and double click on any APRX file to begin work.

    World Imagery provides one meter or better satellite and aerial imagery in many parts of the world and lower resolution satellite imagery worldwide. The map includes 15m TerraColor imagery at small and mid-scales (~1:591M down to ~1:72k) and 2.5m SPOT Imagery (~1:288k to ~1:72k) for the world. The map features 0.5m resolution imagery in the continental United States and parts of Western Europe from Maxar. Additional Maxar sub-meter imagery is featured in many parts of the world. In the United States, 1 meter or better resolution NAIP imagery is available in some areas. In other parts of the world, imagery at different resolutions has been contributed by the GIS User Community. In select communities, very high resolution imagery (down to 0.03m) is available down to ~1:280 scale. You can contribute your imagery to this map and have it served by Esri via the Community Maps Program.     The Wildland Fire Interagency Geospatial Services (WFIGS) Group provides authoritative geospatial data products under the interagency Wildland Fire Data Program. Hosted in the National Interagency Fire Center ArcGIS Online Organization (The NIFC Org), WFIGS provides both internal and public facing data, accessible in a variety of formats.

    This service contains all wildland fire incidents from the IRWIN (Integrated Reporting of Wildland Fire Information) incident service that meet the following criteria:
    No "fall-off" rules are applied to this service.
    The date range for this service will extend from present day back to 2014, when IRWIN was implemented.

    Criteria were determined by an NWCG Geospatial Subcommittee task group.

    Data are refreshed from IRWIN source every 5 minutes.

    Warning: Please refrain from repeatedly querying the service using a relative date range. This includes using the “(not) in the last” operators in a Web Map filter and any reference to CURRENT_TIMESTAMP. This type of query puts undue load on the service and may render it temporarily unavailable.

    SourceOIDThe OBJECTID value of the source record in the source dataset providing the attribution.
    ABCDMiscA FireCode used by USDA FS to track and compile cost information for emergency IA fire suppression on A, B, C & D size class fires on FS lands.

    The Minnesota DNR Toolbox and Hydro Tools provide a number of convenience geoprocessing tools used regularly by MNDNR staff. Many of these may be useful to the wider public. However, some tools may rely on data that is not available outside of the DNR. All tools require at least ArcGIS 10+.

    If you create a GDRS using GDRS Manager and include this toolbox resource and MNDNR Quick Layers, the DNR toolboxes will automatically be added to the ArcToolbox window whenever Quick Layers GDRS Location is set to the GDRS location that has the toolboxes.

    Detroit Street View (DSV) is an urban remote sensing program run by the Enterprise Geographic Information Systems (EGIS) Team within the Department of Innovation and Technology at the City of Detroit. The mission of Detroit Street View is ‘To continuously observe and document Detroit’s changing physical environment through remote sensing, resulting in freely available foundational data that empowers effective city operations, informed decision making, awareness, and innovation.’ LiDAR (as well as panoramic imagery) is collected using a vehicle-mounted mobile mapping system.

    Due to variations in processing, index lines are not currently available for all existing LiDAR datasets, including all data collected before September 2020. Index lines represent the approximate path of the vehicle within the time extent of the given LiDAR file. The actual geographic extent of the LiDAR point cloud varies dependent on line-of-sight.

    Compressed (LAZ format) point cloud files may be requested by emailing gis@detroitmi.gov with a description of the desired geographic area, any specific dates/file names, and an explanation of interest and/or intended use. Requests will be filled at the discretion and availability of the Enterprise GIS Team. Deliverable file size limitations may apply and requestors may be asked to provide their own online location or physical media for transfer.

    LiDAR was collected using an uncalibrated Trimble MX2 mobile mapping system. The data is not quality controlled, and no accuracy assessment is provided or implied. Results are known to vary significantly. Users should exercise caution and conduct their own comprehensive suitability assessments before requesting and applying this data.

    Geoprocessing service Esri ArcGIS Server - SkyLineGraph_DMR 4G is a public service intended for visibility analysis execution using the dataset Digital Terrain Model of the Czech Republic of the 4th generation (DMR 4G). Geoprocessing service enables to find out, which area is visible from chosen observer location to defined distance. When using the service is necessary to choose the observer location, specify oberver offset above the terrain and define the distance, in which the visibility analysis is demanded. The result of the analysis is visibility field (area) represented by polygons, which delimit visible parts of the terrain. The geoprocessing service is published as asynchronous. The result is passed on client throught Result Map Service Visibility_DMR 4G (MapService). The result can be downloaded from server and saved to a local disc as shapefile using URL, which is generated and sended by the geoprocessing service. URL for the result download throught a web client is published in running service record, that is sent from server to the client.

    This web map contains the same layers as the Imagery with Labels basemap that is available in the basemap gallery of ArcGIS.com's map viewer, ArcGIS Explorer Online, ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, and the mobile clients. The Imagery with Labels basemap contains the World Imagery map service with the Boundaries and Places map service drawn on top. When you use this basemap in a web map, any map services that you add into the map get sandwiched between the imagery and the labels drawn on top, so this is a good basemap you use if you want to see services that don't contain their own labels with imagery drawn behind them and reference labels drawn on top.This web map also includes the World Transportation map service. This service shows streets, roads and highways and their names.     Our Co-design team is from the University of Texas, working on a Department of Energy-funded project focused on the Beaumont-Port Arthur area. As part of this project, we will be developing climate-resilient design solutions for areas of the region. More on www.caee.utexas.edu.We captured aerial photos in the Port Arthur Coastal Neighborhood Community and the Golf Course on Pleasure Island, Texas, in June 2024.Aerial photos taken were through DroneDeploy autonomous flight, and models were processed through the DroneDeploy engine as well. All aerial photos are in .JPG format and contained in zipped files for each area.The processed data package includes 3D models, geospatial data, mappings, and point clouds. Please be aware that DTM, Elevation toolbox, Point cloud, and Orthomosaic use EPSG: 6588. And 3D Model uses EPSG: 3857.For using these data:- The Adobe Suite gives you great software to open .Tif files.- You can use LASUtility (Windows), ESRI ArcGIS Pro (Windows), or Blaze3D (Windows, Linux) to open a LAS file and view the data it contains.- Open an .OBJ file with a large number of free and commercial applications. Some examples include Microsoft 3D Builder, Apple Preview, Blender, and Autodesk.- You may use ArcGIS, Merkaartor, Blender (with the Google Earth Importer plug-in), Global Mapper, and Marble to open .KML files.- The .tfw world file is a text file used to georeference the GeoTIFF raster images, like the orthomosaic and the DSM. You need suitable software like ArcView to open a .TFW file.This dataset provides researchers with sufficient geometric data and the status quo of the land surface at the locations mentioned above. This dataset could streamline researchers' decision-making processes and enhance the design as well.

During a search and rescue (SAR) operation, officials don't have time to wait until a GIS specialist is on scene. They need maps immediately. Preconfigured and ready-to-use GIS tools must be available to SAR teams before an incident occurs.

In this lesson, you'll create a web map to prepare data for search operations. Your map will contain static base data showing regional boundaries and key features, as well as editable layers that can be changed as an incident develops. Then, you'll use the map to create a web app that even non-GIS professionals can use. Finally, you'll use the app to track a fictional SAR mission.
