    Description

The CongDist_Gen feature class is a generalized spatial representation of the United States Congressional Districts of the 118th Congress. The data was generalized using the Esri Generalize polygon function. The CongDist feature class is a US Forest Service Standard Reference Dataset and is the preferred spatial representation of US Congressional Districts. This feature class has been modified and should only be used for cartographic purposes at small scales. The purpose of the generalized CongDist_Gen dataset is to improve map display and drawing performance in both ArcGIS applications and ArcGIS Server map services. To satisfy both performance improvement and geometry representation, the following parameters and geoprocessing method were used. Simplify the input features using the Douglas-Peucker simplification algorithm with a specified maximum offset tolerance of 375 meters. The output features will contain a subset of the original input vertices. Min scale refers to what scale the layer turns off when zooming out. Max scale refers to the scale the layer turns off at when zooming in. Min scale: 0, no minimum scale set, Max Scale: 1:4622325.

    Description

Contains the 1984 General Land Use Map (GLUM), which identifies high-level, general land uses across the Region of Peel in polygon format along with associated land use attributes. The GLUM assigns a broad category to all lands within the Region, thereby identifying trends and patterns in land uses.Updated in July 2014 with polygons split by current municipality boundaries and with topology checked and fixed. Field names were also changed to align with more recent names, although the classification scheme was not.Landsat 5 multispectral (true colour) imagery was used for the update of the dataset. The imagery has a spectral resolution of 30 metres. The acquisition date was 1994-10-15.

Merged, dissolved, and generalized polygon feature class; should be used in conjunction with the merged, dissolved, and generalized line feature class "All_critical_habitat_line_YYYYMMDD_generalized_for_Section7_consultations".Refer to the metadata in each feature class for more information on specific proposed or designated critical habitat. The spatial data represent critical habitat locations; however, the complete description and official boundaries of critical habitat proposed or designated by NMFS are provided in proposed rules, final rules, and the Code of Federal Regulations (50 CFR 226). Official critical habitat boundaries may include regulatory text that modifies or clarifies maps and spatial data. Proposed rules, final rules, and the CFR also describe any areas that are excluded from critical habitat or otherwise not part of critical habitat (e.g., ineligible areas), some of which have not been clipped out of the spatial data. Both proposed and designated critical habitat are included in this feature class. Proposed critical habitat will be replaced by final designations soon after a final rule is published in the Federal Register. This feature class version may not include spatial data for recently proposed, modified, or designated critical habitat.

    Description

The statewide dataset contains a combination of land cover mapping from 2016 aerial imagery and land use derived from standardized assessor parcel information for Massachusetts. The data layer is the result of a cooperative project between MassGIS and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office of Coastal Management (OCM). Funding was provided by the Mass. Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

This land cover/land use dataset does not conform to the classification schemes or polygon delineation of previous land use data from MassGIS (1951-1999; 2005).In this map service layer hosted at MassGIS' ArcGIS Server, all impervious polygons are symbolized by their generalized use code; all non-impervious land cover polygons are symbolized by their land cover category. The idea behind this method is to use both cover and use codes to provide a truer picture of how land is being used: parcel use codes may indicate allowed or assessed, not actual use; land cover alone (especially impervious) does not indicate actual use.

See the full datalayer description for more details. This map service is best displayed at large (zoomed in) scales. Also available are a Feature Service and a Tile Service (cache). The tile cache will display very quickly in in ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Desktop, and other applications that can consume tile services.

    Description

This GIS dataset is a compilation of existing surficial map information for Alberta, edited for mapping continuity and generalized to make it suitable for presentation and use at 1:1,000,000 scale. It is the dataset used to create Alberta Geological Survey Map 601: Surficial Geology of Alberta. The data were prepared from an intermediate dataset (Alberta Geological Survey DIG 2013-0001), which was edgematched and then the boundaries between similar polygons were 'dissolved.' The residual dataset was then generalized selectively using the Geological Survey of Canada's GeoScaler software. We then added attributes describing the generalized polygons, including unit description, texture, genetic group, and geological age. The data were created as an Esri file geodatabase feature class and exported for public distribution as an Esri shapefile called Surf1M_py_ll.shp. The layer file Surf1M_py_ll.lyr is also included for the convenience of Esri software users (version 9.2).

    Description

Data as of March 8, 2013. These boundary lines were derived from the World Vector Shoreline dataset and match up with the 2013 detailed LSIB polygons.

The 1:250,000 scale World Vector Shoreline (WVS) coastline data is generally shifted by several hundred meters to over a km. To simplify the polygons, the ArcGIS Simplify Polygon tool was used, using the Bend Simplify algorithm with a maximum allowable offset of 3 miles. Topology was then corrected for any errors produced by the simplification process. For convenience, the dataset is broken out into regions: (1) Africa, (2) Asia and Russia, (3) Europe and Southwest Asia, (4) North America, (5) Oceania, and (6) South America. In the zip file, there is also a global dataset (approximately 24 MBs) that includes all the data.

There are no restrictions on use of this public domain data. This dataset will be updated as needed and is current as of March 08, 2013.

To improve the performance of the web applications displaying the 2002 land use data, it was necessary to create a new simplified layer that included only the minimum number of polygons and attributes needed to represent the 2002 land use conditions. The 2007 LU/LC data set is the fourth in a series of land use mapping efforts that was begun in 1986. Revisions and additions to the initial baseline layer were done in subsequent years from imagery captured in 1995/97, 2002 and 2007. This present 2007 update was created by comparing the 2002 LU/LC layer from NJ DEP's Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database to 2007 color infrared (CIR) imagery and delineating and coding areas of change. Work for this data set was done by Aerial Information Systems, Inc., Redlands, CA, under direction of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), Bureau of Geographic Information System (BGIS). LU/LC changes were captured by adding new line work and attribute data for the 2007 land use directly to the base data layer. All 2002 LU/LC polygons and attribute fields remain in this data set, so change analysis for the period 2002-2007 can be undertaken from this one layer. The classification system used was a modified Anderson et al., classification system. An impervious surface (IS) code was also assigned to each LU/LC polygon based on the percentage of impervious surface within each polygon as of 2007. Minimum mapping unit (MMU) is 1 acre. ADVISORY: This metadata file contains information for the 2007Land Use/Land Cover (LU/LC) data sets, which were mapped by Watershed Management Area (WMA). There are additional reference documents listed in this file under Supplemental Information which should also be examined by users of these data sets. Description

The political boundary datalayer is a polygon representation of town boundaries created from arcs developed from survey coordinates extracted from the 68-volume Harbor and Lands Commission Town Boundary Atlas for the 351 communities (cities and towns) in Massachusetts. The Atlas was published in the early 1900's and is maintained by the Survey Section of Massachusetts Highway Department. For communities with a coastal boundary, MassGIS has collaborated with Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and the Department of Environmental Protection to complete a 1:12000 scale coastline. The boundary for the coastline was defined as being the upland side of tidal flats and rocky inter-tidal zones. Note that the 351 communities are the official municipal names, not including "villages" or other sections of towns. This datalayer was created for the purposes of providing an up-to-date polygon version of the town boundaries for the 351 cities and towns of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The legislative intent for some boundaries could not be mapped. Boundaries where that is true are identified in the attribute information. This layer contains multi-part polygons, one for each municipality. The coastline on this layer has been generalized for small-scale cartography and faster display in web map services.See the layer metadata for details.

    Description

This GIS dataset is a compilation of existing surficial map information for Alberta tiled into one layer. It was an interim product to produce the generalized polygon dataset (Alberta Geological Survey DIG 2013-0002), which is suitable for presentation and use at 1:1,000,000 scale. We prepared the data by appending existing GIS datasets of each surficial map of Alberta into one provincial layer with a standard attribute table. Data sources included published Alberta Geological Survey and Geological Survey of Canada maps, one master's thesis, and ecological (biophysical) land-classification maps of the mountain parks. When possible, we transferred all of the legend data from each map source into the standard schema. As part of our 1:1,000,000-scale map project, we completed mapping the unmapped areas of Alberta at roughly 500,000 to 1,000,000 scale. This dataset includes those previously unpublished data. With this dataset users can, for the first time, view the surficial geology of different map areas done at different scales and map projections by different geologists according to different legends in one GIS layer. We exported the feature class as an Esri shapefile (SurfMosaic_py_ll.shp) for public distribution. The layer file 1M_scale_legend.lyr is also included for the convenience of Esri software users (version 9.2) to render the map according to the common legend shown on Alberta Geological Survey Map 601.

    Description

Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) blocks serve as the legal definition for BOEM offshore boundary coordinates used to define small geographic areas within an Official Protraction Diagram (OPD) or Leasing Map (LM) for leasing and administrative purposes. These polygons are clipped to the Submerged Land Act Boundary and Continental Shelf Boundaries. Only the most recently published paper or PDF versions of the OPDs, LMs or Supplemental Official Block Diagrams (SOBDs) should be used for official or legal purpose. These data were created in the applicable NAD83 UTM or NAD27 UTM/SPCS Projection and re-projected to GCS WGS84 (EPSG 4326) for management in BOEM's enterprise GIS. However, this service in this collection has been published in WGS 1984 Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere (EPSG 3857). Because GIS projection and topology functions can change or generalize coordinates, these data are NOT an OFFICIAL record for the exact boundaries. These data are to be used for Cartographic purposes only and should not be used to calculate area.

Description

World Countries Generalized provides a generalized basemap layer for the countries of the world. It has fields for official names and country codes. The generalized boundaries improve draw performance and effectiveness at global and continental levels. This layer is best viewed out beyond a maximum scale (zoomed in) of 1:5,000,000.The sources of this dataset are Esri, Garmin, and U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (The World Factbook). It is updated every 12-18 months as country names or significant borders change.
