We build upon a previously developed fossil fuel data assimilation system (FFDAS) for estimating global high‐resolution fossil fuel CO2 emissions. We have improved the underlying observationally based data sources, expanded the approach through treatment of separate emitting sectors including a new pointwise database of global power plants, and extended the results to cover a 1997 to 2010 time series at a spatial resolution of 0.1°. Long‐term trend analysis of the resulting global emissions shows subnational spatial structure in large active economies such as the United States, China, and India. These three countries, in particular, show different long‐term trends and exploration of the trends in nighttime lights, and population reveal a decoupling of population and emissions at the subnational level. Analysis of shorter‐term variations reveals the impact of the 2008–2009 global financial crisis with widespread negative emission anomalies across the U.S. and Europe. We have used a center of mass (CM) calculation as a compact metric to express the time evolution of spatial patterns in fossil fuel CO2 emissions. The global emission CM has moved toward the east and somewhat south between 1997 and 2010, driven by the increase in emissions in China and South Asia over this time period. Analysis at the level of individual countries reveals per capita CO2 emission migration in both Russia and India. The per capita emission CM holds potential as a way to succinctly analyze subnational shifts in carbon intensity over time. Esri created this estimate by modeling a footprint of where people live as a dasymetric settlement likelihood surface, and then assigned 2016 population estimates stored on polygons of the finest level of geography available onto the settlement surface.     The Los Angeles Clean Streets Index, the first-of-its-kind, is a grading system of every street in Los Angeles. The Bureau of Sanitation drove and scored over 9,000 miles of streets and alleys - each segment received a "cleanliness score" from 1-3. Each street score is based on four factors: litter, weeds, bulky items and illegal dumping. This assessment will be repeated every quarter. Los Angeles is leading the way as the only big city in the US conducting a regular cleanliness assessment of every City street.     The United States Geological Survey has published "An assessment of the representation of ecosystems in global protected areas using new maps of World Climate Regions and World Ecosystems" in Global Ecology and Conservation Journal. This work was produced by a team led by Roger Sayre, Ph.D., Senior Scientist for Ecosytems at the USGS Land Change Science Program with the support from The Nature Conservancy and Esri. We described this work using two introduction story maps, Introduction to World Ecosystems Map and Introduction to World Climate Regions Map. This story map is an introduction for World Climate Regions Map. You can have more information by accessing the published paper and you can access the dataset by downloading the pro package.

    Kingston's Waterfront Master Plan is intended to be a guiding document that organizes and prioritizes a plan for the renewal of public waterfront spaces as well as the improvement of access and the creation of a fully connected public waterfront. For the purposes of the project, Kingston's waterfront has been divided into six focus areas, each with their own unique characteristics. This map service supports the 'Focus Area Overview' story map journal, which contains a series of interactive maps designed to give the user a sense of where the various focus areas are located across the city, and details on the design workshops scheduled for each.     Description

    The file geodatabase (fgdb) contains the Sea, Lake, and Overland Surge from Hurricanes (SLOSH) Maximum of Maximums (MOM) model for hurricane categories 2 and 4. The EPA Office of Research & Development (ORD) modified the original model from NOAA to fit the model parameters for the Buzzards Bay region. The models show storm surge extent for the Mattapoisett area and therefore the flooding area was reduced to the study area. Areas of flooding that were not connected to the main water body were removed. An interactive map and downloadable book are available for free on the NCC’s website and will allow the public to discover distinctive features of these trees, revealing a story of the beauty of our natural heritage through the rich diversity of species thriving within Canada’s Capital.     El siguiente Story Map Journal representa la historia geológica de Puerto Rico, es decir los diferentes procesos geológicos que impulsaron su formación al igual que sus diversas zonas fisiográficas y sus diferentes tipos de rocas y depósitos. El proyecto fue creado para propósitos pedagógicos, por ende busca enseñar de manera digital e interactiva la geología de Puerto Rico. A consecuencia, se tuvo en consideración los Estándares de Contenido y Expectativas de Grado en Puerto Rico del Programa de Ciencias bajo el área de Ciencias de la Tierra y Espacio y los estándares de Estructura y niveles de organización de la materia, Conservación y cambio para estudiantes de Cuarto Grado. Asimismo, se tiene como expectativa el dominio de los siguientes temas: Los materiales y sistemas de la TierraPlacas tectónicas e interacciones de sistemas a gran escalaFormación de relieve en Puerto RicoDe igual forma, pretende que el/la estudiante:Describa algunas formas y tipos de relieve en Puerto RicoReconozca, describa y explique la relación entre los diferentes tipos de relieve en Puerto Rico y sus ecosistemas.Diferencia entre las rocas en ígneas, metamórficas y sedimentariasPor otra parte, para generar el siguiente proyecto se utilizaron diversas fuentes de información, entre ellas algunos textos, bases de datos, imágenes y vídeos los cuales posibilitaron la creación de este Story Map Journal. En el caso de los mapas aquí publicados, se utilizaron principalmente los datos y manuscritos del Servicio Geológico de los Estados Unidos (U.S. Geological Survey, USGS), una entidad científica a nivel federal de los Estados Unidos la cual provee la mayoría de la información geológica de Puerto Rico.
