In Canada, the most frequent type of discrimination experienced by visible minorities since the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic was discrimination based on race or color. Almost a quarter of people aged 15 to 24 years old belonging to a visible minority group reported having faced such a situation, compared to 19.5 percent of people aged between 25 and 64 years old, and 12.5 percent of people aged over 65. Young people were also more likely to have experienced discrimination because of their ethnicity or culture, or because of their lanquage.

The most common type of discrimination experienced by visible minorities in Canada since the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic was discrimination based on race or color. 21.5 percent of women belonging to a visible minority group reported having faced such a situation, compared to 18.3 percent of men. Women were also more likely than men to have experienced discrimination because of their ethnicity or culture.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, almost two out of five people of a Chinese background reported having experienced discrimination in Canada. They were the most commonly discriminated against visible minority group, followed by people of Filipino origin (31.6 percent) and Black people (27.6 percent). In comparison, about 12 percent of people who did not belong to a visible minority group said they had experienced discrimination since the beginning of the pandemic.
