    Description

In 2023, Illinois requires that all law enforcement agencies reporting criminal stats utilize the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS). Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) stats would no longer be accepted. NIBRS and UCR differ in many ways and cannot be compared to each other. Aurora's UCR stats are no longer presented in the dashboards below, but will be downloadable as data sets for 2022 and prior years, and Aurora's NIBRS stats will be reported for 2023 and future years.Crime statistics are updated monthly and are subject to change. Definitions of NIBRS offenses can be found in the FBI's NIBRS manual. Data is collected for every incident of Group A offenses, but only arrests for Group B offenses. For this table, some NIRBS offenses have been combined into one offense category for ease of tracking:

Human Trafficking combines the NIBRS offenses of Commercial Sex Acts and Involuntary Servitude.
Sex Offenses combines the NIBRS offenses of Rape, Sodomy, Sexual Assault with an Object, Fondling, and Statutory Rape.
The NIBRS offenses of Bribery, Embezzlement, and Extortion/Blackmail have been combined.
All Other Fraud combines the NIBRS offenses of Welfare Fraud, Wire Fraud, and Hacking/Computer Invasion.
All Other Theft combines the NIBRS offenses of Pocket-Picking,

Purse-Snatching, Theft from Coin-Operated Machine, and All Other Larceny. Gambling Offenses combines the NIBRS offenses of Betting/Wagering, Operating/Promoting/Assisting Gambling, Gambling Equipment Violations, and Sports Tampering. Prostitution Offenses combines the NIBRS offenses of Prostitution, Assisting/Promoting Prostitution, and Purchasing Prostitution.
