This datasets presents the South Australian suburb boundaries as of August 2018. Suburbs and Localities (or Rural suburbs) are defined areas of the State established for addressing purposes. The base data used for the capture is the cadastre. The Suburbs layer is a data set that reflects the official boundaries of addressable localities in South Australia as defined by the Geographical Names Act, 1991. The polygons are based on the existing cadastral, topographic or road centerline data that defines the underlying features that boundaries follow. The Suburb Boundaries in the urban and rural areas are updated when required through notification in the Government Gazette or spatial improvement of the cadastre. The capturing started 1990 and is ongoing. The Suburb boundary dataset is currently 100% complete for the state and complies with government classification standards. Suburb/Locality Boundaries are part of the PSMA Administrative Boundaries dataset built and maintained by PSMA Australia, using authoritative government data, sourced from the state and territory government mapping agencies and land registries of Australia as well as from the Australian Electoral Commission and Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The full PSMA Administrative Boundaries dataset contains boundaries in seven themes: Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) boundaries, electoral boundaries, state and territory boundaries, local government areas, suburbs/localities, wards and town points.
As at November 2019, users have the option to download datasets with feature coordinates referencing the new Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 (GDA2020) in addition to datasets on the GDA94 datum.
For GDA2020 datasets, the name of the zip folder and the root folder (once extracted) include a reference to GDA2020. For GDA94 datasets, the zip and root folder names do not contain the datum name (i.e. they remain the same as previous releases).
For example, the zip and root folder for Administrative Boundaries downloaded in GDA2020 for November 2019 looks like this:

This project uses data on same-gendered households (via the 2016 Australian Census) and cohabitation rates (via behavioural population surveys) to estimate the total number and prevalence of gay men and lesbian women living across Australia and in each postcode. The data and code for generating relevant outputs and analyses are contained here.(i) Stock datasets [Files: remoteness2012.dta; postcode_clusters.dta] This item contains files required to organize the Australian Census data: (i) the 'remoteness' classifications per the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2011), and (ii) clustering of those postcodes with base total populations of less than 200 people. The clustering process was undertaken manually by reviewing postcodes in that bracket and combining them with neighboring postcodes within the same jurisdictions and remoteness classification until the threshold of 200 was met. Statistical Areas Level 2 (SA2s) are medium-sized general purpose areas built up from whole Statistical Areas Level 1 (SA1s). They generally have a population between 3,000 and 25,000.
Their purpose is to represent a community that interacts together socially and economically. SA2s represent suburbs within cities and catchments of rural areas. In remote and regional areas, SA2s have smaller populations and cover a larger area than those in urban areas.
Use SA2s if you are analysing and comparing Census data at a suburb level in urban areas over Census years. A variety of other ABS data is released at the SA2 level for comparison.

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield Community Profile provides demographic and economic analysis for the Council area and its suburbs based on results from the 2016, 2011, 2006, 2001, 1996 and 1991 Censuses of Population and Housing. The profile is updated with population estimates when the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) releases new figures. This is an interactive query tool where results can be downloaded in various formats. Three reporting types are available from this resource: 1. Social atlas that delivers the data displayed on a map showing each SA1 area (approx 200 households), 2. Community Profile which delivers data at a District level which contain 2 to 3 suburbs, and 3. Economic Profile which reports statistics of an economic indicators. An update to the NT Commonwealth Electoral Boundaries has been applied to reflect the redistribution of the boundaries gazetted on 4 March 2025.

Statistical Areas Level 1 (SA1s) are designed to maximise the geographic detail available for Census of Population and Housing data while maintaining confidentiality.
SA1s are built from whole Mesh Blocks and have a population between 200 and 800 people. In remote and regional areas they generally have smaller populations than those in urban areas. SA1s are designed to represent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as accurately as possible, particularly in remote areas.
Use SA1s to see how Census characteristics vary at a neighbourhood scale within larger areas such as Suburbs or Local Government Areas.
