Malaria cases reported in India was reported at 227564 cases in 2023, according to the World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized sources. In 2022, the total number of rape cases reported in India amounted to over 31 thousand. This was a slight decrease in rape cases compared to the previous year. Even though many rapes are not reported in the country, it is an issue that continuously makes news headlines, some leading to public protests. Although reports of rape have increased in recent years, it was still associated with shame for the victim, rather than the perpetrator. The justice system  A victim of rape in India not only experiences social stigmatization but what is more, her fight for justice is not made easy due to the system that often faults the victim for their misfortune. Instances have been reported where victims are confronted with hostile conditions at police stations and have been often pressured to withdraw their cases. However, once a case goes to trial, it can take decades before anything is resolved. Rape cases in particular, face huge backlog where the number of new cases supersede the number of cases disposed every year. The process is arduous and could add so much trauma to the victim’s life that they often buckle under pressure from family of their own or that of the perpetrator.  Women in India India is known to be one of the most dangerous countries in the world for women. Indian women are constantly in a state of high alert when alone on the streets, at work or in the markets. Due to India’s predominantly patriarchal nature, domestic violence is known to be culturally acceptable. Studies reveal that even a majority of working women suffer domestic abuse from their husbands. A non-earning woman’s position further exacerbates vulnerability and dependence on their male partner as opposed to a woman who contributors financially to the household. Rampant poverty across the country is the main driver for low literacy rates and consequently, disempowerment and abuse among women.

The dataset consists of total cases, new cases, new death, total test per day, etc. This can be used to predict future covid cases in India.

Inspiration

I struggled a lot to find data in the form of csv file for doing analysis of Covid19 impact on India but I wa u unable to find any good dataset. Hence I had to spend a lot of time learning how to extract JSON files and write codes to convert that into a usable form. Hence I thought I will upload it so that in future aspiring Data analysts can have easy access to the dataset.

The first Covid 19 case in India was reported on 30th January 2020 in South Indian state of Kerala on a medical student who was pursuing the studies at Wuhan University, China. Two more students were found to be infected in Kerala in the consecutive days. The Kerala government was successful in containing the disease with its proactive measures back then. The second outbreak of Covid 19 in India started in the first week of March from various parts of India in various people who visited the foreign countries and in some of the tourists from different countries.

The tableau story consists of the following data analysis : 1. State-wise number of infected and number of death count in India map. Hover the mouse on each state in the India map to know the count. 2. Click on the next caption to know the state-wise number of confirmed, active, recovered and deceased cases in the form of bar chart. 3. The next caption takes you to the bar chart which shows the number of cases getting confirmed in India each day starting from January 30, 2020. 4. Next caption takes us to an analysis of the Mortality rate and the Recovery rate (in percentage) of each of the Indian state. We get an idea how hard each of the state is hit by the pandemic. 5. Next caption gives a detailed analysis of the state Kerala which has the mortality rate of 0.806% and the recovery rate of 74.4% as of now. Hover the mouse to know the count in each district. Don't forget to have a look at the line graph of 'number of active cases' in Kerala. It looks almost flattened ! As everyday we hear the increasing number of cases and deaths across the country, this graph may make you feel better...! 6. Finally the caption takes you to the statistics from the topmost district of Kerala - Kasaragod. The total number of cases reported is 179 at Kasaragod. The active number of cases is just 12 as of now... !!! Have a look at the statistics from Kasaragod and the story of 'Kasaragod model' as some of the national media in India call it !!!

The northern state of Rajasthan reported the highest number of rape cases across India in 2022, at over *** thousand. Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, ranked second that year, while the union territory of Lakshadweep recorded the lowest number. Crime against women in India: a grim reality   2012’s gang rape and murder of a 22-year-old physiotherapy intern shook the country in what is now known as the Nirbhaya case. Literally translated from Hindi, Nirbhaya means fearless. Outcry in the form of protests and marches seized the country in the weeks following the incident. This took place in the country’s capital Delhi, ranking first among metropolitans for rape cases. Arguably, this was a turning point in conversations about crime and the status and treatment of women in India, forcing it to the forefront. Even so, Nirbhaya continues to be one of the many names given to refer to the other rape cases in the country since. Women’s safety in India   Despite public and private initiatives to ensure safety measures are being implemented, being a girl or woman is often seen as a disadvantage. From banning prenatal sex determination to encouraging girls to go to school and inclusion in the workforce, attempts are consistently being made to better how women are treated. Despite this, Indians live in a society that has deeply normalized all levels of crime against women, giving the responsibility of safety to the individual rather than the community.

This dataset contains information about total number of human trafficking cases reported per State/Union Territories in India, number of victims trafficked/rescued, nationality of the victims, age-group, purpose of trafficking, police and court disposal of cases, and number of culprits arrested/acquitted.

Till 2019, India had 29 states and 7 Union Territories. But in 2020, there were changes in the demographics and now, there are 28 states and 8 union territories.

2018 - (29 states and 7 Union Territories)

• Rate of Cognizable Crimes- this column refers to cases reported per 1 lakh population.
• Due to non-receipt of data from Assam & Jharkhand for 2018, data furnished for 2017 has been used.
  ###### 2019 - (29 states and 7 Union Territories)
• Due to non-receipt of data from West Bengal in time for 2019, data furnished for 2018 has been used.
  ###### 2020 - (28 states and 8 Union territories).
• The earlier two UTs of D & N Haveli and Daman & Diu were combined into 1.
• State of Jammu and Kashmir was changed to Union Territories of:
  1. Jammu & Kashmir
  2. Ladhak
• The number of cases reported in 2018, 2019 for Jammu & Kashmir includes data for Ladhak too.

Here is a short description about few terms present in the dataset. For further reading, you may refer this site.

1. Charge Sheet- is the complaint of a private individual on which criminal proceedings are initiated. When the charge sheet is sent by police to Magistrate, the preliminary stage of investigation and preparation is over.
2. Final report- The charge sheet is followed by the Final Report. It records the conclusion arrived at by the Police after the investigation process.

So, if Final Report column contains 0, it implies that the investigation is not yet complete.
