This report analyses the average age of registered vehicles in Australia. This is measured by the number of years since a vehicle was first manufactured, taking an average across all registered motor vehicles. This includes passenger vehicles, campervans, light commercial vehicles, light and rigid trucks, articulated trucks, non-freight carrying trucks, buses, and motorcycles registered at 31 January each year. The data for this report is sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics.

Residents of all CEE countries, except for Slovenia, drove cars older than the EU average. For example, Czechia has the oldest passenger car fleet, with an average age of over **** years. On the other hand, the average resident of Slovenia owned a car that was **** years old in 2023.

This graph shows the average age of cars on the road in the United Kingdom (UK) between 2000 and 2016, including projections for 2015 and 2016. It can be seen that before the recession the average age of cars in the UK was falling, however, since the recession the average age has risen drastically and will probably continue to rise.
