The average monthly price for natural gas in the United States amounted to 3.19 nominal U.S. dollars per million British thermal units (Btu) in July 2025. Fuel prices, already high due to a recovering post-pandemic economy, surged even higher after Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 2022. As of May of that same year, UCOME (used cooking oil methyl ester) average wholesale prices were higher than any other fuel, standing at 2,607 U.S. dollars per metric ton of oil equivalent. The United States imported an average of 147,000 barrels of petroleum per day from Russia in 2022.
