The average asking rent for office real estate decreased across all major markets in Latin America between the first half of 2019 and the second half of 2022. Buenos Aires had the most expensive office space at 23.7 U.S. dollars per square meter per month. Mexico City followed closely with monthly rent of 22.44 U.S. dollars per square meter.

Rio de Janeiro is one of the Latin American cities where buying an apartment is most expensive.
Buenos Aires, Argentina, was the least affordable city in South America in the first half of 2022 to buy an apartment. The ratio measures the number of years needed for a two-earner household where one person works full time and one person works half-time to buy a 90-square meter apartment. It assumes the property has the average square meter price for the city and that home buyers earn the average net salary. Montevideo, Uruguay, was one of the most affordable cities, where it took about nine years to buy an apartment.
Apartment rents per square meter in Greater Santiago, Chile in the third quarter of 2022 ranged between approximately six and 10 U.S. dollars depending on the commune. Lo Barnechea and Vitacura were the most expensive communes for apartment rental, with the average rent exceeding nine U.S. dollars per square meter. At the other end of the scale were Independencia and Estación Central, where the monthly rent was slightly below six U.S. dollars.

In the United States, Manhattan, San Francisco, and Silicon Valley-South Bay fetch the highest office rental rates.
