There is more to housing affordability than the rent or mortgage you pay. Transportation costs are the second-biggest budget item for most families, but it can be difficult for people to fully factor transportation costs into decisions about where to live and work. The Location Affordability Index (LAI) is a user-friendly source of standardized data at the neighborhood (census tract) level on combined housing and transportation costs to help consumers, policymakers, and developers make more informed decisions about where to live, work, and invest. Table BUS01f provides figures on passenger journeys per head of population at Local Transport Authority (LTA) level. Population data for 21 counties were duplicated in error, resulting in the halving of figures in this table. This issue does not affect any other figures in the published tables, including the regional and national breakdowns.
The affected LTAs were: Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, Devon, East Sussex, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Staffordshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Warwickshire, West Sussex, and Worcestershire.

In 2022, total private consumer spending per German household was around 2,850 euros. This sum was made up of various types of costs, of which the largest share was taken up by housing, energy, and home maintenance. Other large spending groups included food and transport. To spend or not to spend On average, the graph at hand is a representation of the life of German consumers, and the financial decisions which must be made in terms of spending. Individual consumer goods recorded varying levels of expenditure over the years. For example, German consumers spent more on clothing and shoes after the COVID-19 pandemic than before. Food spending has also increased annually in recent years. While shoppers may not necessarily be buying more food than usual, higher food prices since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022 are a contributing factor. However, monthly inflation figures have been decreasing again since the end of 2022 and have come back to a normal level of around two percent.
Hawaii is the state with the highest household electricity price in the United States. In September 2024, the average retail price of electricity for Hawaiian residences amounted to 41.27 U.S. cents per kilowatt-hour. California followed in second, with 30.221 U.S. cents per kilowatt-hour. Meanwhile, Utah registered the lowest price in the period, at around 11.4 U.S. cents per kilowatt-hour. Residential prices in capital cities in Europe are usually higher than the national average, but in France, this trend is even more pronounced. In 2022, homebuyers in Paris paid more than three times higher than the national average - a price gap only Lisbon comes close to. The cost of living in the French capital Paris counts some of the world’s most incredible historical sites, as well as a vibrant culture. But living in the City of Lights is becoming more expensive every year. In 2019, The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Worldwide named Paris the second city with the highest cost of living worldwide. Even though the average cost for public transport is surprisingly low in Paris, compared to other European cities, real estate prices and the costs of food or entertainment can make Parisian life less romantic than expected.
Amongst selected European airlines, Ryanair had by far the lowest average passenger fare in 2021, with approximately ** euros per passenger. The low-cost airline is followed by its rivals, Wizz Air and Norwegian, with an average ticket price of ** euros and ** euros respectively.
According to a September 2022 survey, spending on drinks accounted for the highest cost on a night out in the United Kingdom.
