    Description

The monthly average temperature in the United States between 2020 and 2025 shows distinct seasonal variation, following similar patterns. For instance, in April 2025, the average temperature across the North American country stood at 12.02 degrees Celsius. Rising temperatures Globally, 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2024 were some of the warmest years ever recorded since 1880. Overall, there has been a dramatic increase in the annual temperature since 1895. Within the U.S. annual temperatures show a great deal of variation depending on region. For instance, Florida tends to record the highest maximum temperatures across the North American country, while Wyoming recorded the lowest minimum average temperature in recent years. Carbon dioxide emissions Carbon dioxide is a known driver of climate change, which impacts average temperatures. Global historical carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels have been on the rise since the industrial revolution. In recent years, carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel combustion and industrial processes reached over 37 billion metric tons. Among all countries globally, China was the largest emitter of carbon dioxide in 2023.

    Description

Yearly-averaged climate record of solar spectral irradiance (SSI), with associated uncertainties, from 1610 to the present in 4,300 variable-width wavelength bands. This broad spectrum (0 to 200,000 nm) product is constructed using version 1 of the NASA NOAA LASP (NNL) model for solar spectral irradiance, referred to as NNLSSI1.

The NNLSSI1 model, and the accompanying version 1 of the NNL high-resolution solar spectral irradiance model (NNLSSI1h) and the NNL total solar irradiance model (NNLTSI1) form the NOAA Solar Irradiance Climate Data Record (CDR) Version 3. This publicly available CDR became operational in 2024 and is operationally updated from LASP on a quarterly basis with preliminary data, replaced at year end with final values. NCEI is the definitive source for the Solar Spectral Irradiance Climate Data Record where the data, source code, and supporting documentation are archived. The Solar Irradiance CDR is also served from LISIRD. Batch file download capability is provided from https://lasp.colorado.edu/lisird/data/nnl_files.

The NNLSSI1 model estimates changes in solar irradiance across the spectrum due to time-varying bright faculae and dark sunspots, represented as bolometric quantities, as well as the F10.7 cm solar radio flux for estimating spectral irradiance change at extreme ultraviolet wavelengths. The NNL Version 1 solar irradiance models have been developed from direct observations of total solar irradiance from the SORCE, TCTE, TSIS-1, and CTIM spacecraft from 2003 to 2023 and from direct observations of solar spectral irradiance from the SORCE, TSIS-1 and Aura spacecraft from 2003 to 2023. The EUV extension is informed by direct observations from the TIMED and SDO missions.

For questions or to request preliminary data for the current year, please contact Odele Coddington (odele dot Coddington at lasp dot colorado dot edu) or 303-492-9318. The earlier NOAA Solar Irradiance CDR Version 2 dataset, although no longer operationally updated, can still be obtained from NOAA/NCEI or LASP LISIRD (https://lasp.colorado.edu/lisird/data/nrl2_files).

    Description

This dataset contains the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS), annual averages from 1990 to 2024.

The Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program is a Federal-State cooperative effort in which monthly estimates of total employment and unemployment are prepared for approximately 7,600 areas, including counties, cities and metropolitan statistical areas. These estimates are key indicators of local economic conditions.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) of the U.S. Department of Labor is responsible for the concepts, definitions, technical procedures, validation, and publication of the estimates that State workforce agencies prepare under agreement with BLS.

Estimates for counties are produced through a building-block approach known as the "Handbook method." This procedure also uses data from several sources, including the CPS, the CES program, state UI systems, and the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS), to create estimates that are adjusted to the statewide measures of employment and unemployment. Estimates for cities are prepared using disaggregation techniques based on inputs from the ACS, annual population estimates, and current UI data.

    Description

Measurements of surface air and ocean temperature are compiled from around the world each month by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information and are analyzed and compared to the 1971-2000 average temperature for each location. The resulting temperature anomaly (or difference from the average) is shown in this feature service, which includes an archive going back to 1880. The mean of the 12 months each year is displayed here. Each annual update is available around the 15th of the following January (e.g., 2020 is available Jan 15th, 2021). The NOAAGlobalTemp dataset is the official U.S. long-term record of global temperature data and is often used to show trends in temperature change around the world. It combines thousands of land-based station measurements from the Global Historical Climatology Network (GHCN) along with surface ocean temperature from the Extended Reconstructed Sea Surface Temperature (ERSST) analysis. These two datasets are merged into a 5-degree resolution product. A report summary report by NOAA NCEI is available here. GHCN monthly mean station averages for temperature and precipitation for the 1981-2010 period are also available in Living Atlas here. What can you do with this layer? Visualization: This layer can be used to plot areas where temperature was higher or lower than the historical average for each year since 1880. Be sure to configure the time settings in your web map to view the timeseries correctly. Analysis: This layer can be used as an input to a variety of geoprocessing tools, such as Space Time Cubes and other trend analyses. For a more detailed temporal analysis, a monthly mean is available here.
