    About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset tabulates the population of Baltimore by race. It includes the population of Baltimore across racial categories (excluding ethnicity) as identified by the Census Bureau. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Baltimore across relevant racial categories.

    Key observations

    The percent distribution of Baltimore population by race (across all racial categories recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau): 27.40% are white, 60.04% are Black or African American, 0.36% are American Indian and Alaska Native, 2.53% are Asian, 0.04% are Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, 4.40% are some other race and 5.22% are multiracial.

    Description

    1960 Race Census Data for Baltimore, Maryland. Refer to the 1960 codebook (codebook_1960.pdf) for more information. This is part of a collection of 221 Baltimore Ecosystem Study metadata records that point to a geodatabase. The geodatabase is available online and is considerably large. Upon request, and under certain arrangements, it can be shipped on media, such as a usb hard drive. The geodatabase is roughly 51.4 Gb in size, consisting of 4,914 files in 160 folders. Although this metadata record and the others like it are not rich with attributes, it is nonetheless made available because the data that it represents could be indeed useful.

    Description

    BNIA-JFI analyzed data from the Census to provide greater understanding of the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of the residents of the City and its neighborhoods . BNIA-JFI also used this data as denominators for many of the Vital Signs indicators allowing for data to be normalized and rates to be computed. Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the racial categories idetified by the US Census Bureau. It is ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to the identified racial categories, and do not rely on any ethnicity classification. About this dataset

Context

The dataset tabulates the population of Baltimore by race. It includes the population of Baltimore across racial categories (excluding ethnicity) as identified by the Census Bureau. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of Baltimore across relevant racial categories.

Key observations

The percent distribution of Baltimore population by race (across all racial categories recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau): 27.40% are white, 60.04% are Black or African American, 0.36% are American Indian and Alaska Native, 2.53% are Asian, 0.04% are Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, 4.40% are some other race and 5.22% are multiracial.

When available, the data consists of estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates.
