    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Barnet town population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Barnet town across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of Barnet town was 1,671, a 0.54% decrease year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Barnet town population was 1,680, an increase of 0.42% compared to a population of 1,673 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Barnet town decreased by 96. In this period, the peak population was 1,856 in the year 2006. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    Description

Last year the GLA released the first set of population projections for Barnet, based on the 2011 Census. This year the projections have been updated to reflect the most current data (for 2013). These projections are the standard set of population statistics to be used across the council.

These projections take the development provided by the borough into account and incorporate household formation rates from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) interim 2011-based household projections.

These data have been provided to you at unit level. Please ensure that figures are rounded to the nearest 100 and that age groups are aggregated where cell counts are small, when publishing data for public consumption.

These data are the sole copyright of the © Greater London Authority, 2013. This must be clearly stated when the data are reproduced such as in publications or presentations.

For more information please contact demography@london.gov.uk or see the GLA website.

They use the Census 2011 counts as a baseline and model births, deaths, migration, household composition, and housing development plans provided by the council. These projections include total population counts to 2041, single year of age projections, and age group projections.

    Description

Barnet is in the process of developing a transport strategy to understand and improve the way individuals travel across the borough.

With population expected to reach 400,000 by 2020 Barnet is now London’s most populous borough. The growth in Barnet’s population will change our existing communities, attracting a younger and more diverse population, in addition to this, the increase in population will have a significant impact on the way people travel, which is why Barnet is planning to implement a strategy to manage this and make journeys for these people easier.

The strategy will outline the Council’s commitment to improving transport options for all of our residents. This will involve considering what our appropriate “mix” of future travel modes should be and how we should be investing in various travel modes in order to arrive at a comprehensive choice of travel options for residents that effectively integrate with one another. It will also provide a high level blueprint to move forward and meet new and emerging challenges as well as providing a local application of the Mayor’s Transport Strategy goals. As part of this strategy an online library has been developed to provide a resource to reinforce decision making and make the strategy more transparent to stake holders.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Barnet, Vermont population pyramid, which represents the Barnet town population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. Higher numbers at the bottom of the table suggest population growth, whereas higher numbers at the top indicate declining birth rates. Furthermore, the dataset can be utilized to understand the youth dependency ratio, old-age dependency ratio, total dependency ratio, and potential support ratio.

    Key observations

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Barnet, Vermont, is 32.6.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Barnet, Vermont, is 42.6.

D1 - Over the next 15 years there will be significant household growth in Barnet, which will lead to an increase in total tonnages of waste collected D2 - The smaller the number of people per household the more waste is generated per person. An increase in the number of flats in Barnet is likely to mean fewer people per household and more waste generated per resident D3 - Waste production is linked to the economy. When disposable income grows waste production increases. Therefore there is likely to be growth in household waste as the economy grows D4 - Resident behaviour and changes in the use of technology will result in paper tonnage continuing to decrease and cardboard tonnage continuing to increase D5 - Long term changes in waste composition are unknown but light weighting of packaging is likely to continue, which will present a challenge to the Council in meeting recycling targets D6 - Barnet has a population inflow of around 8 per cent on a yearly basis. This has significant performance and cost implications in relation to engaging and communicating with new residents and means there could be benefits achieved from delivering services or commuications jointly with other authorities D7 - There is no evidence for this assumption, therefore it is not supported

    Description

The purpose of the Playing Pitch Strategy (PPS) is to provide a robust future action plan for sports facilities in Barnet. The outcomes arising from the assessment will inform the LBB Infrastructure Delivery Plan (IDP) which will underpin the Local Plan. The IDP’s purpose is to set out an analysis and assessment of existing infrastructure provision within Barnet including playing pitches, and identify existing and future needs and demands for the Council to support new development and a changing population to 2031. This provides evidence for the consideration for additional inclusion in the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) or in the application of S106. The updated PPS has been developed in accordance with Sport England guidelines and with the involvement of the National Governing Bodies of the sports to which it relates: Cricket, Football, Hockey, Rugby Union and Tennis; in addition to Sport England. The draft strategy also takes into account the requirements Gaelic Football in Barnet. Sports clubs and leagues, together with pitch providers based in the Borough were all involved in the development of the draft strategy; ensuring the capture of the views and opinions of the local sports community on the adequacy of provision of playing pitches in Barnet. Description

This section outlines the assumptions we have used as a basis for Barnet Council’s Municipal Recycling & Waste Strategy and the various evidence collated that supports them

D1 - Over the next 15 years there will be significant household growth in Barnet, which will lead to an increase in total tonnages of waste collected

D2 - The smaller the number of people per household the more waste is generated per person. An increase in the number of flats in Barnet is likely to mean fewer people per household and more waste generated per resident

D3 - Waste production is linked to the economy. When disposable income grows waste production increases. Therefore there is likely to be growth in household waste as the economy grows

D4 - Resident behaviour and changes in the use of technology will result in paper tonnage continuing to decrease and cardboard tonnage continuing to increase

D5 - Long term changes in waste composition are unknown but light weighting of packaging is likely to continue, which will present a challenge to the Council in meeting recycling targets

D6 - Barnet has a population inflow of around 8 per cent on a yearly basis. This has significant performance and cost implications in relation to engaging and communicating with new residents and means there could be benefits achieved from delivering services or commuications jointly with other authorities

D7 - There is no evidence for this assumption, therefore it is not supported
