    Description

This data set depicts federal lands having restrictions on access or activities -- that is, lands mangaed by the National Park Service, Defense Department, or Energy Department -- in western North America. The data set was created by reformatting and merging state- and province-based ownership data layers originally acquired from diverse sources (including state GAP programs, USBLM state offices and other sources). For each original dataset 3 additional fields, "Pub_Pvt", "CA_OWN", and "SOURCE" were added and populated based on the specific ownership information contained in the source data. The original coverages were then merged based on the "CA_OWN" field. Finally, NPS, DOD, and DOE lands were selected out of the ownership layer. All work was completed in AcMap 8.3. This product and all source data are available online from SAGEMAP: http://sagemap.wr.usgs.gov.

    Description

[Metadata] Flood Hazard Base Flood Elevation features for the State of Hawaii as of May, 2021.

The Statewide GIS Program created the statewide layer by merging all county layers (downloaded on May 1, 2021), as the Statewide layer was not available from the FEMA Map Service Center. The National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) data incorporates all Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) databases published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and any Letters of Map Revision (LOMRs) that have been issued against those databases since their publication date. It is updated on a monthly basis. The FIRM Database is the digital, geospatial version of the flood hazard information shown on the published paper FIRMs. The FIRM Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual-chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The FIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published FIRMs, flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by FEMA. The NFHL is available as State or US Territory data sets. Each State or Territory data set consists of all FIRM Databases and corresponding LOMRs available on the publication date of the data set. The specification for the horizontal control of FIRM Databases is consistent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:12,000. This file is georeferenced to the Earth's surface using the Geographic Coordinate System (GCS) and North American Datum of 1983. For more information, please refer to summary metadata: https://files.hawaii.gov/dbedt/op/gis/data/s_fld_haz_base_flood_elevations.pdf or contact Hawaii Statewide GIS Program, Office of Planning and Sustainable Development, State of Hawaii; PO Box 2359, Honolulu, HI 96804; (808) 587-2846; email: gis@hawaii.gov; Website: https://planning.hawaii.gov/gis.

    Description

The base exclusions consist of two main categories of exclusion – the protected area layer and the techno-economic exclusion layer. The base exclusions form the fundamental exclusion set that the additional criteria of the Core and SB 100 Terrestrial Climate Resilience Study screens are added to. The merged footprints of these primary two layers are modified by the Bureau of Land Management Land Use Plan Amendment (LUPA) development focus areas (DFAs) and variance process lands, and the general public lands in the DRECP. These areas allow for renewable energy applications and are therefore exempt (erased) from the base exclusions layer, even if the protected area layer or techno-economic exclusion layer identified the area as an exclusion. The DFAs are partitioned by technology type so that only the DFAs that allow solar energy are applied in this modification. The area of California remaining after removing the base exclusions is called the resource potential basemap. It forms the starting point (or base) used in renewable resource estimation and defines where environmental and land-use datasets can be applied in exploring implications. More information about this layer and its use in electric system planning is available in the Land Use Screens Staff Report in the CEC Energy Planning Library. Change Log: Version 1.1 (January 22, 2024 10:49 AM) Layer revised with latest protected area layer, which allows for gaps to remain when combining all components.

    Description

A calibration base line (CBL) is a precisely measured, straight-line course of approximately 1,400 m used to calibrate Electronic Distance Measuring Instruments (EDMI). A CBL usually consists of four segments ranging from 150 to 1,400 m whose lengths are measured with two high precision EDMI. Since the program began in 1974, NGS has established more than 300 base lines throughout the United States in cooperation with government agencies, universities and professional groups. Participating organizations must select a suitable site that is accessible for public use and install the base line markers 2 to 3 months before measurements are taken. Published CBL distances are available from the National Geodetic Survey, 301-713-3242 or ngs.infocenter@noaa.gov. For more information, please refer to: [1] NOAA Technical Memorandum NOS NGS-8 - Establishment of Calibration Base Lines (1994). [2] NOAA Technical Memorandum NOS NGS-10 - Use of Calibration Base Lines (1977). Both publications are available in pdf from http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/PUBS_LIB/pub_index.html.
