    Description

This part of DS 781 presents data for bathymetry for several seafloor maps of the Offshore of Point Conception Map Area, California. The GeoTiff is included in "Bathymetry_OffshorePointConception.zip," which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7QN64XQ. These data accompany the pamphlet and map sheets of Johnson, S.Y., Dartnell, P., Cochrane, G.R., Hartwell, S.R., Golden, N.E., Kvitek, R.G., and Davenport, C.W. (S.Y. Johnson and S.A. Cochran, eds.), 2018, California State Waters Map Series—Offshore of Point Conception, California: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2018–1024, pamphlet 36 p., 9 sheets, scale 1:24,000, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr20181024. Bathymetry map of the Offshore of Point Conception map area in southern California was generated largely from acoustic-bathymetry data collected by Fugro Pelagos Inc. Acoustic mapping was completed in 2008 using a combination of 400-kHz Reson 7125, 240-kHz Reson 8101, and 100-kHz Reson 8111 multibeam echosounders. Bathymetric-lidar data was collected in the nearshore area by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Joint Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise in 2009 and 2010. These mapping missions combine to provide continuous bathymetric data from the shoreline as well as acoustic-backscatter data from about the 10-m isobath to beyond the limit of California's State Waters.

    Description

The National Bathymetric Source (NBS) project creates and maintains high-resolution bathymetry composed of the best available data. This project enables the creation of next-generation nautical charts while also providing support for modeling, industry, science, regulation, and public curiosity. Primary sources of bathymetry include NOAA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hydrographic surveys and topographic bathymetric (topo-bathy) lidar (light detection and ranging) data. Data submitted through the NOAA Office of Coast Survey’s external source data process are also included, with gaps in deep water filled through Global Multi-Resolution Topography, a merged model of bathymetry. Different vertical datums and file formats are made available to meet various uses. The BlueTopo folder includes multilayer floating point GeoTIFFs with associated Raster Attribute Tables (RAT) containing elevation, vertical uncertainty, with other quality metrics and source information. These files are arranged in a spatial tiling and resolution scheme corresponding to the Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) but are not for navigation due to the inclusion of additional non-navigation data and non-navigation vertical datums. For navigational datasets please see the S-102 distribution portal. "nowCOAST" provides public access to BlueTopo through the nowCOAST viewer, web map tile services (WMTS), and links to individual datasets.

The bathymetry and shaded-relief maps of Offshore of San Francisco, California, were generated from bathymetry data collected by Fugro Pelagos, and by California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB). Mapping was completed between 2004 and 2008, using a combination of 400-kHz Reson 7125 and 244-kHz Reson 8101 multibeam echosounders. These mapping missions combined to collect bathymetry (sheets 1, 2) from about the 10-m isobath to beyond the 3-nautical-mile limit of California's State Waters. A large portion of this map area was re-mapped in 2009, however the older bathymetry data were used in this map due to co-registered, acoustic backscatter data.

NOTE: the horizontal datum of the bathymtry data (NAD83) differs from the horizontal datum of other layers in this SIM (WGS84). Some bathymetry grids within this map were projected horizontally from WGS84 to NAD83 using ESRI tools to be more consistent with the vertical reference of the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). These data are not intended for navigational purposes.

    Description

Bathymetry is the measurement of water depth in lakes. From the 1940s to the 1990s, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry produced bathymetry maps for over 11,000 lakes across Ontario. The data can be used by the general public and GIS specialists for: * climate change modelling * fish monitoring and other ecological applications * hydrologic cycle modelling * recreational fishing maps * watershed-based water budgeting The maps were created using simple methods to determine lake depths. They were meant for resource management purposes only. Little effort was made to identify shoals and other hazards when creating these bathymetric maps. Since this data was collected, many constructed and naturally occurring events could mean that the depth information is now inaccurate, so these maps should not be used for navigational purposes. In many cases, these maps still represent the only authoritative source of bathymetry data for lakes in Ontario. Technical information These maps are being converted to digital GIS line data which can be found in the Bathymetry Line data class. The Bathymetry Index data class identifies if GIS vector lines have been created and the location of mapped lakes. The historic paper maps have been scanned into digital files. We will add new digital files to this dataset if they become available. The digital files have been grouped and packaged by regions into 13 compressed (zipped) files for download. Note: package 99 contains scanned maps where the location shown on the map could not be determined.

The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 project has produced a global terrain model for ocean and land. The GEBCO_2023 grid was published in April 2023 and is the fifth GEBCO grid developed through The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project. This is a collaborative project between the Nippon Foundation of Japan and GEBCO. The Seabed 2030 Project aims to bring together all available bathymetric data to produce the definitive map of the world ocean floor and make it available to all.

The GEBCO_2023 Grid is a continuous, global terrain model for ocean and land with a spatial resolution of 15 arc seconds. Between latitudes of 50° South and 60° North it uses version 2.5.5 of the SRTM15+ dataset as a "base". This data set is a fusion of land topography with measured and estimated seafloor topography. This version of SRTM15+ is similar to version 2.1 [Tozer et al., 2019] but includes additional data sets. It uses predicted depths based on the V32 gravity model [Sandwell et al., 2019]. The SRTM15+ base grid has been augmented with the gridded bathymetric data sets developed by the four Seabed 2030 Regional Centers to produce the GEBCO_2023 Grid. Note: SRTM15+ V2.5.5 is also available through OpenTopography here.

The information for ice-surface elevation and under-ice topography/bathymetry is taken from IceBridge BedMachine Greenland, Version 4.6 (Morlighem, M. et al. 2017) and data based on MEaSUREs BedMachine Antarctica, Version 2 (Morlighem, M. et al 2020).

NOTE: This dataset includes ice sheet topography. For a version of the dataset with under-ice topography see "GEBCO SubIceTopo" below under "Other Available Data Products".

This part of DS 781 presents data for the bathymetry map of the Offshore of Bolinas, California. The raster data file is included in "Bathymetry_OffshoreBolinas.zip," which is accessible from https://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/781/OffshoreBolinas/data_catalog_OffshoreBolinas.html. These data accompany the pamphlet and map sheets of Cochrane, G.R., Dartnell, P., Johnson, S.Y., Greene, H.G., Erdey, M.D., Golden, N.E., Hartwell, S.R., Manson, M.W., Sliter, R.W., Endris, C.A., Watt, J.T., Ross, S.L., Kvitek, R.G., Phillips, E.L., Bruns, T.R., and Chin, J.L. (G.R. Cochrane and S.A. Cochran, eds.), 2015, California State Waters Map Series — Offshore of Bolinas, California: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2015–1135, pamphlet 36 p., 10 sheets, https://doi.org/10.3133/ofr20151135. The bathymetry map of Offshore Bolinas, California, was generated from bathymetry data collected by California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), by Fugro Pelagos, and by Moss Landing Marine Laboratory (MLML). Mapping was completed between 2004 and 2010, using a combination of 200-kHz and 400-kHz Reson 7125, and 244-kHz Reson 8101 multibeam echosounders, as well as 468-kHz SEA SWATHPlus and 250-kHz GeoSwath interferometric systems. Moss Landing Marine Laboratory mapped the nearshore region north of Bolinas in 2004 prior to the California Seafloor Mapping Program (CSMP). The nearshore region from south of Bolinas Lagoon to Stinson Beach was mapped by Fugro Pelagos in 2009 for a project outside of the CSMP and only bathymetry data were collected. These mapping missions combined to collect bathymetry from about the 10-m isobath to beyond the 3-nautical-mile limit of California's State Waters. NOTE: the horizontal datum of the bathymetry data (NAD83) differs from the horizontal datum of other layers in this data series (WGS84). Some bathymetry grids within this map were projected horizontally from WGS84 to NAD83 using ESRI tools to be more consistent with the vertical reference of the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). These data are not intended for navigational purposes.

    Description

Contours were generated from Water Institute staff as part of our lake assessment program. We use bathymetric mapping equipment operated from small boats to collect position and depth (XYZ) data, which is then processed to create three-dimensional datasets. These data are used to create a detailed bathymetric map and morphological characteristics tables. Because we use shallow-draft kayaks and johnboats, we are able to access small lakes and ponds and navigable rivers, streams, and creeks. Bathymetry data were correct at the time lakes were assessed, but lake levels change constantly. Bathymetry maps provide information about relative depths only, and should not be used for navigation.
