    Description

The First Nations geographic location dataset contains the geographic location of First Nations (groups and subgroups) in Canada as points as well as basic attributes data. The location identifies where the First Nations live. Each First Nation point represents its administrative office address as it is registered in Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) Band Governance Management System (BGMS). When the First Nation administrative office is located outside its associated most populated reserve boundary, adjustments are made to relocate the point within its boundaries, otherwise within the boundaries of another associated reserve or the city where the administrative office is located. When the administrative office or the First Nation is impossible to locate, the location is based on the best available information on the First Nation (e.g. official First Nation Web site). A connection with the BGMS is in place to ensure that any update to the system is reflected in the attributes data associated with the location of each First Nation. This dataset is Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) official source for First Nation geographic location on maps.

    Description

Purpose: To provide a visual index for the first nations in British Columbia. This point dataset shows the approximate locations of each First Nations main community.Notes: This spatial dataset contains the approximate locations of First Nations in British Columbia. Locations are based on the location of the main community, as obtained from Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC). This data includes 6 Yukon or NWT bands that have parts of their traditional territories in B.C. and have been accepted into the BC treaty process. This is a multipoint feature. LIMITATONS: Although every attempt has been made to ensure that this data is accurate and complete, some First Nations may be missing or inaccurately positioned. The First Nations themselves should be contacted for the definitive locations. WMS GetCapabilities URL: DataBC also offers access to this data in OGC WMS format. WMS is useful when the map author does not require custom popups, styling, or analytic capabilities for the layer. ArcGIS Online authors may want to use WMS, instead of this ArcGIS Server layer, in the following scenarios: Where they want to use existing Data Custodian approved styling, and/or They only need simple identify and map rendering functionality.Copy the: WMS GetCapabilities URL to add this web item to an ArcGIS Online Map or Scene Viewer. In some cases, multiple Styles are listed in the GetCapabilities and can be added as WMS Custom parameters. For more information on how to use a WMS layer see - ESRI's OGC ArcGIS Online HelpBC Data Catalogue Metadata URL: https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/c1a366fe-0212-48ba-a7f5-081036511794
