The files linked to this reference are the geospatial data created as part of the completion of the baseline vegetation inventory project for the NPS park unit. Current format is ArcGIS file geodatabase but older formats may exist as shapefiles. The digital vegetation map was produced using a combination of machine processing and visual interpretation. We used two primary image sources. These included 2006 1:12,000-scale infrared aerial photography for the areas west of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range that was subsequently processed by the USFWS and 2006 National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) imagery, and ground-truthing to interpret the complex patterns of vegetation and landuse at GRSA. Other referenced imagery included 2006 and 2007 Quickbird imagery which covered portions of the project area. All of the interpreted and remotely sensed data were converted to Geographic Information System (GIS) databases using ArcInfo© software. Draft maps created from the vegetation classification were field-tested and revised before independent ecologists completed an assessment of the map‘s accuracy during 2008. During the summer of 2008 we sampled 1,537 accuracy assessment points to establish a final overall accuracy of 73.7%. This metric is subject to considerable interpretation and is discussed in detail in the results section.

    Market Dynamics of Digital Maps:

Key drivers of the Digital Maps Market

Mobile Computing Devices Are Increasingly Used for Navigation leading to market expansion-

Since technology is changing rapidly, two categories of mobile computing devices—tablets and smartphones—are developing and becoming more diverse. One of the newest features accessible in this category is map software, which is now frequently preinstalled on smartphones. Meitrack Group launched the MD500S, a four-channel AI mobile DVR, for the first time in 2022. The MD500S is a 4-channel MDVR with excellent stability that supports DMS, GNSS tracking, video recording, and ADAS. Source- https://www.meitrack.com/ai-mobile-dvr/#:~:text=Mini%204CH%20AI%20Mobile%20DVR,surveillance%20solutions%20that%20uses%20H.

It's no secret that people who own smartphones routinely use built-in mapping apps to find directions and other driving assistance. Furthermore, these individuals use georeferenced data from GPS and GIS apps to find nearby establishments such as cafes, movie theatres, and other sites of interest. Mobile computing devices are now commonly used to acquire accurate 3D spatial information. A personal digital assistant (PDA) is a software agent that uses information from the user's computer, location, and various web sources to accomplish tasks or offer services. Thus, mobile computing devices are increasingly used for navigation leading to market expansion.

The usage of geographic data has increased leading to market expansion-

Since it is used in so many different industries and businesses—including risk and emergency management, infrastructure management, marketing, urban planning, resource management (oil, gas, mining, and other resources), business planning, logistics, and more—geospatial information has seen a boom in recent years. Since location is one of the essential components of context, geo-information also serves as a basis for applications in the future. For example, Atos SE provides services to companies in supply chain management, data centers, infrastructure development, urban planning, risk and emergency management, navigation, and healthcare by utilizing geographic information system (GIS) platforms with location-based services (LBS).

Furthermore, augmented reality-based technologies make use of 3D platforms and GIS data to offer virtual information about people and their environment. Businesses can offer users customized ads by using this information to better understand their needs. Thus, the usage of geographic data has increased leading to market expansion.

    Description

This dataset is a series of digital map-posters accompanying the AdaptNRM Guide: Helping Biodiversity Adapt: supporting climate adaptation planning using a community-level modelling approach.

These represent supporting materials and information about the community-level biodiversity models applied to climate change. Map posters are organised by four biological groups (vascular plants, mammals, reptiles and amphibians), two climate change scenario (1990-2050 MIROC5 and CanESM2 for RCP8.5), and five measures of change in biodiversity.

The map-posters present the nationally consistent data at locally relevant resolutions in eight parts – representing broad groupings of NRM regions based on the cluster boundaries used for climate adaptation planning (http://www.environment.gov.au/climate-change/adaptation) and also Nationally.

Map-posters are provided in PNG image format at moderate resolution (300dpi) to suit A0 printing. The posters were designed to meet A0 print size and digital viewing resolution of map detail. An additional set in PDF image format has been created for ease of download for initial exploration and printing on A3 paper. Some text elements and map features may be fuzzy at this resolution.

Each map-poster contains four dataset images coloured using standard legends encompassing the potential range of the measure, even if that range is not represented in the dataset itself or across the map extent.

Most map series are provided in two parts: part 1 shows the two climate scenarios for vascular plants and mammals and part 2 shows reptiles and amphibians. Eight cluster maps for each series have a different colour theme and map extent. A national series is also provided. Annotation briefly outlines the topics presented in the Guide so that each poster stands alone for quick reference.

An additional 77 National maps presenting the probability distributions of each of 77 vegetation types – NVIS 4.1 major vegetation subgroups (NVIS subgroups) - are currently in preparation.

    Description

The INTERPNT method can be used to produce accurate maps of trees based solely on tree diameter and tree-to-tree distance measurements. For additional details on the technique please see the published paper (Boose, E. R., E. F. Boose and A. L. Lezberg. 1998. A practical method for mapping trees using distance measurements. Ecology 79: 819-827). Additional information is contained in the documentation that accompanies the program. The Abstract from the paper is reproduced below. "Accurate maps of the locations of trees are useful for many ecological studies but are often difficult to obtain with traditional surveying methods because the trees hinder line of sight measurements. An alternative method, inspired by earlier work of F. Rohlf and J. Archie, is presented. This "Interpoint method" is based solely on tree diameter and tree-to-tree distance measurements. A computer performs the necessary triangulation and detects gross errors. The Interpoint method was used to map trees in seven long-term study plots at the Harvard Forest, ranging from 0.25 ha (200 trees) to 0.80 ha (889 trees). The question of accumulation of error was addressed though a computer simulation designed to model field conditions as closely as possible. The simulation showed that the technique is highly accurate and that errors accumulate quite slowly if measurements are made with reasonable care (e.g., average predicted location errors after 1,000 trees and after 10,000 trees were 9 cm and 15 cm, respectively, for measurement errors comparable to field conditions; similar values were obtained in an independent survey of one of the field plots). The technique requires only measuring tapes, a computer, and two or three field personnel. Previous field experience is not required. The Interpoint method is a good choice for mapping trees where a high level of accuracy is desired, especially where expensive surveying equipment and trained personnel are not available."

    Description

TanDEM-X Forest/Non-Forest (FNF) map(s) have been one such data focusing on the status of global forest coverage, which has played an essential role in combating climate change. Although the producers have carried out verification and comparison analyses, the need for accuracy assessments in a broader sense creates uncertainties for the users to approve the new data. For this purpose, TanDEM-X 50 m FNF maps were exclusively examined visually through 66,000 test grids within 30 geocells selected from temperate, boreal, and tropical forest zones. Thus, it was aimed to provide product accuracy utilizing visual inspections to the end users of TanDEM-X FNF maps. In addition, Collect Earth (CE) software was used to evaluate the dataset visually, and its advantages or disadvantages were compared with similarly designed studies. Consequently, even though the producers’ data sets were found to have an accuracy of around 85 percent, it was observed that there were some issues, especially in the definition of the “non-forest” class. CE software was found to be helpful in such studies. However, the dependence of the analyses on geo-browser supplied imagery had some limitations in estimating the accuracy of a new dataset.

    Description

The 2006 Second Edition TIGER/Line files are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the Census TIGER database. The geographic coverage for a single TIGER/Line file is a county or statistical equivalent entity, with the coverage area based on the latest available governmental unit boundaries. The Census TIGER database represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts. However, each county-based TIGER/Line file is designed to stand alone as an independent data set or the files can be combined to cover the whole Nation. The 2006 Second Edition TIGER/Line files consist of line segments representing physical features and governmental and statistical boundaries. The files contain information distributed over a series of record types for the spatial objects of a county. There are 19 record types, including the basic data record, the shape coordinate points, and geographic codes that can be used with appropriate software to prepare maps. Other geographic information contained in the files includes attributes such as feature identifiers/census feature class codes (CFCC) used to differentiate feature types, address ranges and ZIP Codes, codes for legal and statistical entities, latitude/longitude coordinates of linear and point features, landmark point features, area landmarks, and area boundaries. These data are a subset of a larger dataset published by the organization listed in the credits. Great Smoky Mountains National Park makes these data available in this form such that users can: effectively manipulate data for park mapping activities that do not require the acquisition of a large, nation-wide data set; alter symbology and rendering parameters natively; restrict analysis of geospatial data to an extent that coincides with the park footprint. The corresponding Integration of Resource Management Applications (IRMA) NPS Data Store reference is Great Smoky Mountains National Park County Boundaries.

    Description

Malaysia, particularly Pahang, experiences devastating floods annually, causing significant damage. The objective of the research was to create a flood susceptibility map for the designated area by employing an Ensemble Machine Learning (EML) algorithm based on geographic information system (GIS). By analyzing nine key factors from a geospatial database, flood susceptibility map was created with the ArcGIS software (ESRI ArcGIS Pro v3.0.1 x64). The Random Forest (RF) model was employed in this study to categorize the study area into distinct flood susceptibility classes. The Feature selection (FS) method was used to ranking the flood influencing factors. To validate the flood susceptibility models, standard statistical measures and the Area Under the Curve (AUC) were employed. The FS ranking demonstrated that the primary attributes to flooding in the study region are rainfall and elevation, with slope, geology, curvature, flow accumulation, flow direction, distance from the river, and land use/land cover (LULC) patterns ranking subsequently. The categories of ’very high’ and ’high’ class collectively made up 37.1% and 26.3% of the total area, respectively. The flood vulnerability assessment of Pahang found that the Eastern, Southern, and central regions were at high risk of flooding due to intense precipitation, low-lying topography with steep inclines, proximity to the shoreline and rivers, and abundant flooded vegetation, crops, urban areas, bare ground, and rangeland. Conversely, areas with dense tree canopies or forests were less susceptible to flooding in this research area. The ROC analysis demonstrated strong performance on the validation datasets, with an AUC value of >0.73 and accuracy scores exceeding 0.71. Research on flood susceptibility mapping can enhance risk reduction strategies and improve flood management in vulnerable areas. Technological advancements and expertise provide opportunities for more sophisticated methods, leading to better prepared and resilient communities.
