    Description

The ATP Tour (known as the ATP World Tour from January 2009 until December 2018) is a worldwide top-tier tennis tour for men organized by the Association of Tennis Professionals. The second-tier tour is the ATP Challenger Tour and the third-tier is ITF Men's World Tennis Tour. The equivalent women's organisation is the WTA Tour.

The ATP Tour comprises ATP Masters 1000, ATP 500, and ATP 250.[1] The ATP also oversees the ATP Challenger Tour,[2] a level below the ATP Tour, and the ATP Champions Tour for seniors. Grand Slam tournaments, a small portion of the Olympic tennis tournament, the Davis Cup, and the entry-level ITF World Tennis Tour do not fall under the purview of the ATP, but are overseen by the ITF instead and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the Olympics. In these events, however, ATP ranking points are awarded, with the exception of the Olympics. The four-week ITF Satellite tournaments were discontinued in 2007. Players and doubles teams with the most ranking points (collected during the calendar year) play in the season-ending ATP Finals, which, from 2000–2008, was run jointly with the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The details of the professional tennis tour are:

    Description

The data for this study was mainly collected from publicly available sources, including the official ATP website (www.atptour.com), the official WTA website (www.wtatennis.com). In addition, no more than 10% of the data on the age of starting tennis were taken from Wikipedia in conjunction with the results of other web searches. The top 100 ATP and WTA ranked players have been included in the research scope. Furthermore, taking into account the limited number of Chinese athletes in the sample, two relatively high-ranking Chinese players were supplemented as research subjects. A total of 202 players` ranking information was used for analysis.

Legendary Swiss tennis player Roger Federer tops the list of the most Wimbledon tennis titles won by a professional male tennis player. Federer lifted his record eighth Wimbledon trophy in 2017 and consistently ranked among the top male tennis players in the ATP Rankings during his career. The winner of the second most Wimbledon tennis titles was jointly shared between Pete Sampras and Novak Djokovic, with seven wins each. Djokovic had the chance to match Federer in both 2023 and 2024, however, the Serbian was beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in the final in both years. Who has the most Grand Slam wins? Despite the disappointment of losing two consecutive Wimbledon finals, Novak Djokovic's overall record in tennis Grand Slams is unmatched. In total, Djokovic had 24 Grand Slam titles as of July 2024, which was two more than second-placed Rafael Nadal. While young players such as Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have offered a promising look into what the future of men's tennis could resemble, it will be a long time before either player will come close to challenging Djokovic's record. Which professional female tennis player has the most Wimbledon wins? The so-called “open era” of professional tennis, an era which refers to the current era of professional tennis, began in 1968. Since then, various professional female tennis players have won Wimbledon titles. Description

This dataset contains various information about male tennis players in 2020-2023 and is publicly available.

Most of the original data is stored in 3.1_ATP_info.xlsx and can be accessed on the ATP website. On separate sheets, it contains scores like aces, under pressure, breakpoints, etc., for the top players each year. Then, each sheet was preprocessed and converted to csv files.

Additionally, heights_weights.csv contains data with heights and weights of tennis players, and final_rankings_{2020-2023}.csv contains rankings at the end of each corresponding year and, additionally, nationalities and ages of tennis players. However, since the year 2023 has not ended yet, we have little data for it.

Finally, all the data was merged by year in merged_{2020-2023}.csv.
