In the context of COVID-19, RAND and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation partnered again to build from the National Survey of Health Attitudes to implement a longitudinal survey to understand how these health views and values have been affected by the experience of the pandemic, with particular focus on populations deemed vulnerable or underserved, including people of color and those from low- to moderate-income backgrounds. The questions in this COVID-19 survey focused specifically on experiences related to the pandemic (e.g., financial, physical, emotional), how respondents viewed the disproportionate impacts of the pandemic, whether and how respondents' views and priorities regarding health actions and investments are changing (including the roles of government and the private sector), and how general values about such issues as freedom and racism may be related to pandemic views and response expectations. This study includes the results for Wave 4 for the general population. Demographic information includes sex, marital status, household size, race and ethnicity, family income, employment status, age, and census region.

This project examined the multidimensional pathways that led to extremism and extremist behaviors. The focus of the research was to examine risk and protective factors that either directly, or in combination, interact to increase or mitigate the risk of radicalization and terrorism. This project comparatively examined the presence/absence of risk and protective factors across three groups: extremist individuals who committed ideologically motivated violent (fatal and non-fatal violent attacks) and nonviolent (financial) crimes extremists who did not break the law and only engaged in legal extremist activities persons who committed non-ideological motivated homicides and other violent attacks Thus, researchers accomplished four major goals/objectives in this project. First, although there has been a good amount of radicalization and risk assessment-related research on risk and protective factors, researchers expanded this work with comparative analyses that have not been previously explored. Second, few studies compared violent or nonviolent criminal extremists to nonoffending extremists or other types of violent offenders. Third, researchers used a case-control approach to provide an empirically robust understanding of categorical differences across groups that have not yet been achieved. Fourth, researchers examined differences in participation of warning behaviors across the groups studied. The data file includes 971 cases.

TwitterIn 2024, the number of data compromises in the United States stood at 3,158 cases. Meanwhile, over 1.35 billion individuals were affected in the same year by data compromises, including data breaches, leakage, and exposure. While these are three different events, they have one thing in common. As a result of all three incidents, the sensitive data is accessed by an unauthorized threat actor. Industries most vulnerable to data breaches Some industry sectors usually see more significant cases of private data violations than others. This is determined by the type and volume of the personal information organizations of these sectors store. In 2024 the financial services, healthcare, and professional services were the three industry sectors that recorded most data breaches. Overall, the number of healthcare data breaches in some industry sectors in the United States has gradually increased within the past few years. However, some sectors saw decrease. Largest data exposures worldwide In 2020, an adult streaming website, CAM4, experienced a leakage of nearly 11 billion records. This, by far, is the most extensive reported data leakage. This case, though, is unique because cyber security researchers found the vulnerability before the cyber criminals. The second-largest data breach is the Yahoo data breach, dating back to 2013. The company first reported about one billion exposed records, then later, in 2017, came up with an updated number of leaked records, which was three billion. In March 2018, the third biggest data breach happened, involving India’s national identification database Aadhaar. As a result of this incident, over 1.1 billion records were exposed.

TwitterPLACES (Population Level Analysis and Community Estimates) is an expansion of the original 500 Cities project and is a collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the CDC Foundation. The original 500 Cities Project provided city- and census tract-level estimates for the 500 largest US cities. PLACES extends these estimates to all counties, places (incorporated and census designated places), census tracts, and ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTA) across the United States. This service includes 29 measures for chronic disease related health outcomes (13), prevention measures (9), health risk behaviors (4), and health status (3). Data were provided by CDC Division of Population Health, Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch. Data sources used to generate these measures include Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data (2020 or 2019), Census Bureau 2010 census population data or annual population estimates for county vintage 2020 or 2019, and American Community Survey (ACS) 2015–2019 estimates, or ACS 2016–2020. The health outcomes include arthritis, current asthma, high blood pressure, cancer (excluding skin cancer), high cholesterol, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), coronary heart disease, diagnosed diabetes, depression, obesity, all teeth lost, and stroke. The prevention measures include lack of health insurance, visits to doctor for routine checkup, visits to dentist, taking medicine for high blood pressure control, cholesterol screening, mammography use for women, cervical cancer screening for women, colon cancer screening, and core preventive services use for older adults (men and women). The health risk behaviors include binge drinking, current smoking, physical inactivity, and sleeping less than 7 hours. The health status measures include mental health not good for ≥ 14 days, physical health not good for ≥ 14 days, and poor or fair health. TwitterChronic kidney disease (CKD) remains a significant health concern in the United States, with various risk factors contributing to its prevalence. Recent data from 2017 to 2020 reveals that diabetes continues to be a major risk factor, affecting ** percent of adults with CKD. This underscores the complex relationship between metabolic disorders and kidney health, highlighting the need for comprehensive healthcare strategies. Age and gender disparities in CKD prevalence The impact of CKD is not uniform across age groups and genders. In the period 2017 to 2020, approximately ** percent of individuals aged 65 years and older were living with CKD, indicating a higher susceptibility among the elderly population. Gender differences were also observed, with ** percent of women and ** percent of men affected by the condition. These findings emphasize the importance of targeted screening and prevention efforts for specific demographic groups. Racial and ethnic variations in CKD rates Racial and ethnic disparities play a role in CKD prevalence as well. From 2017 to 2020, about ** percent of non-Hispanic white adults were diagnosed with CKD, compared to ** percent of non-Hispanic Black adults. This statistic provides insight into the distribution of the disease across different racial and ethnic groups, suggesting the need for culturally sensitive approaches to CKD prevention and management. Further research into the factors contributing to these variations could lead to more effective interventions and improved outcomes for all populations.

TwitterThe average market risk premium in the United States remained at *** percent in 2025. This suggests that the returns that investors expected for their investrments remained the same as the previous year in that country, in exchange for the risk they are exposed to. This premium has hovered between *** and *** percent since 2011. What causes country-specific risk? Risk to investments come from two main sources. First, inflation causes an asset’s price to decrease in real terms. A 100 U.S. dollar investment with three percent inflation is only worth ** U.S. dollars after one year. Investors are also interested in risks of project failure or non-performing loans. The unique U.S. context Analysts have historically considered the United States Treasury to be risk-free. This view has been shifting, but many advisors continue to use treasury yield rates as a risk-free rate. Given the fact that U.S. government securities are available at a variety of terms, this gives investment managers a range of tools for predicting future market developments.
