    Description

The industry is highly concentrated, with two companies – AA Ltd and RAC Motoring Services – dominating the market. However, healthy demand has encouraged new roadside assistance operators to enter the industry. Industry performance is contingent on the size and average age of the UK's car park, both of which have steadily risen, leading to an increase in the number of vehicles requiring roadside assistance services. Roadside assistance providers have adapted their service offerings as a result of the diversification of UK car purchases in recent years. Rising environmental concerns have prompted the launch of new models of hybrid cars and electric vehicles, which resulted in the incidence of mechanical breakdowns declining through the end of 2023-24. Still, increased cases of tyre damage and battery faults, attributed to the greater weight of new vehicle types and poor road conditions, are set to sustain demand. Revenue is expected to decline at a compound annual rate of 2.5% over the five years through 2024-25 to £1.8 billion, including an estimated climb of 1% in 2024-25, with the average profit margin set to be 24.1%. Revenue is expected to expand at a compound annual rate of 1.9% over the five years through 2029-30 to £1.9 billion. The number of vehicles registered in the UK and motor vehicle usage will continue to rise. The industry's two most prominent players would capitalise on technological advances in motor vehicles by undertaking ongoing investment in technology, allowing them to detect and repair new types of faults in advanced cars. Funding commitments towards road maintenance could constrain the need for roadside assistance services, though local government budget constraints are set to restrict spending on road improvements into the medium term.

    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the three variables, namely (a) Population (Male), (b) Population (Female), and (c) Gender Ratio (Males per 100 Females), we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the gender classifications (biological sex) reported by the US Census Bureau across 18 age groups, ranging from under 5 years to 85 years and above. These age groups are described above in the variables section. For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the population of England by gender across 18 age groups. It lists the male and female population in each age group along with the gender ratio for England. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population distribution of England by gender and age. For example, using this dataset, we can identify the largest age group for both Men and Women in England. Additionally, it can be used to see how the gender ratio changes from birth to senior most age group and male to female ratio across each age group for England.

    Key observations

Largest age group (population): Male # 40-44 years (154) | Female # 0-4 years (183). Source: U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates.

The question is intended to capture data for biological sex, not gender. Respondents are supposed to respond with the answer as either of Male or Female. Our research and this dataset mirrors the data reported as Male and Female for gender distribution analysis.

    Description

This statistic shows total domestic consumption expenditure in the United Kingdom (UK) from 2005 to 2021, broken down by spending categories. In the period under consideration, household expenditure has remained fairly stable with only slight changes in the share of spend. Food and drink, for example, has decreased by one percentage point in 2021.

Household consumption expenditure looks at the overall spending on consumer goods and services of a wide variety. Some examples are government licenses and permits, such as a passport renewal or the price of train tickets to get to work. Housing may also be accounted for in these figures. This figure is measured by how much the consumer actually pays at the point of sale. All fast moving consumer goods such as beer or cigarettes are also accounted for in this data.
