However, cancer is a serious public health issue in the United States and is the second leading cause of death among women. Breast cancer incidence Breast cancer symptoms include lumps or thickening of the breast tissue and may include changes to the skin. Breast cancer is driven by many factors, but age is a known risk factor. Among all age groups, the highest number of invasive breast cancer cases were among those aged 60 to 69. The incidence rate of new breast cancer cases is higher in some ethnicities than others. White, non-Hispanic women have the highest incidence rate of breast cancer, followed by non-Hispanic Black women. Breast cancer treatment Breast cancer treatments usually involve several methods, including surgery, chemotherapy and biological therapy. Types of cancer diagnosed at earlier stages often require fewer treatments. A majority of early stage breast cancer cases in the U.S. receive breast conserving surgery and radiation therapy.

    What are Cancer Statistics in US States?

    The circled group of good survivors has genetic indicators of poor survivors (i.e. low ESR1 levels, which is typically the prognostic indicator of poor outcomes in breast cancer) – understanding this group could be critical for helping improve mortality rates for this disease. Why this group survived was quickly analysed by using the Outcome Column (here Event Death - which is binary - 0,1) as a Data Lens (which we term Supervised vs Unsupervised analyses).

    How to use this dataset

    • A network was built using only gene expression with 272 breast cancer patients (as rows), and 1570 columns.

    • Metadata includes patient info, treatment, and survival.

    • Each node is a group of patients similar to each other. Flares (left) represent sub-populations that are distinct from the larger population. (One differentiating factor between the two flares is estrogen expression (low = top flare, high = bottom flare)).

    • A bottom flare is a group of patients with 100% survival. The top flare shows a range of survival – very poor towards the tip (red), and very good near the base (circled).

    Description

    This dataset of breast cancer patients was obtained from the 2017 November update of the SEER Program of the NCI, which provides information on population-based cancer statistics. The dataset involved female patients with infiltrating duct and lobular carcinoma breast cancer (SEER primary cites recode NOS histology codes 8522/3) diagnosed in 2006-2010. Patients with unknown tumour size, examined regional LNs, positive regional LNs, and patients whose survival months were less than 1 month were excluded; thus, 4024 patients were ultimately included.

    In 2022, the highest breast cancer incidence in women in Europe was estimated in Luxembourg with approximately 190 per 100,000 population. Belgium and Cyprus followed closely. The average breast cancer incidence across EU-27 was 147.6 per 100,00 population, in 2022. Cancer incidence in Europe In 2022, Denmark was the European country with the highest cancer incidence, with 728.5 cases per 100,000 population, followed by Ireland and Netherlands, with both around 641 cases per 100,000 people. Overall, the age-standardized incidence rate of cancer in all sites, excluding non-melanoma skin cancers, was 568.7 per 100,000 population in the whole of EU, with the most prevalent type of cancer being prostate cancer, followed by breast and colorectal cancer. Deaths from breast cancer In the same year, breast cancer also had the highest mortality rate among all types of cancers in women, standing at 34.1 deaths per 100,000 females. Cyprus had the highest mortality rate from breast cancer in all of EU with 45.1 deaths per 100,000 women. Meanwhile, the highest number of deaths due to breast cancer in the given year was reported in Germany, where approximately 20.6 thousand women lost their lives to breast cancer.

    Description

    Breast cancer (BC) has surpassed lung cancer as the most frequently occurring cancer, and it is the leading cause of cancer-related death in women. Therefore, there is an urgent need to discover or design new drug candidates for BC treatment. In this study, we first collected a series of structurally diverse datasets consisting of 33,757 active and 21,152 inactive compounds for 13 breast cancer cell lines and one normal breast cell line commonly used in in vitro antiproliferative assays. Predictive models were then developed using five conventional machine learning algorithms, including naïve Bayesian, support vector machine, k-Nearest Neighbors, random forest, and extreme gradient boosting, as well as five deep learning algorithms, including deep neural networks, graph convolutional networks, graph attention network, message passing neural networks, and Attentive FP. A total of 476 single models and 112 fusion models were constructed based on three types of molecular representations including molecular descriptors, fingerprints, and graphs. The evaluation results demonstrate that the best model for each BC cell subtype can achieve high predictive accuracy for the test sets with AUC values of 0.689–0.993. Moreover, important structural fragments related to BC cell inhibition were identified and interpreted. To facilitate the use of the model, an online webserver called ChemBC (http://chembc.idruglab.cn/) and its local version software (https://github.com/idruglab/ChemBC) were developed to predict whether compounds have potential inhibitory activity against BC cells.

    Description

    Number and rate of new cancer cases diagnosed annually from 1992 to the most recent diagnosis year available. Included are all invasive cancers and in situ bladder cancer with cases defined using the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Groups for Primary Site based on the World Health Organization International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, Third Edition (ICD-O-3). Random rounding of case counts to the nearest multiple of 5 is used to prevent inappropriate disclosure of health-related information.
