2010 Census Data on population, pop density, age and ethnicity per zip code
Unadjusted decennial census data from 1950-2000 and projected figures from 2010-2040: summary table of New York City population numbers and percentage share by Borough, including school-age (5 to 17), 65 and Over, and total population.
Researchers collected data in the South Bronx to determine the impact of government-subsidized supermarkets in high-need areas on food availability and dietary habits. Data was collected in Morrisania, a community in the South Bronx where the government-subsidized New York City FRESH Program supermarket was opened and in Highbridge, a comparison community in the South Bronx that does not have a similar program.
Data was collected via street-intercept survey and follow-up 24 hour recall over the telephone on the habits of children through their parents/caregivers. Data collection occurred in 2011 in three waves: in Morrisania before the supermarket opened, in Morrisania after the supermarket opened, and in Highbridge. Data collected included demographic information (e.g., gender, age, race/ethnicity, household income, education, marital status, household size, and employment), where participants typically shopped for food, how far they travelled to their usual store, whether participants had heard of a new store opening in their neighborhood, household food availability of selected healthful and unhealthful foods, and food consumption habits. A total of 2230 surveys were collected.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To evaluate the characteristics of ocular injuries among elderly patients admitted to an urban level I trauma center because of major trauma from 2008 to 2015. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of patients aged >65 years admitted with ocular injuries that were identified with ICD-9 codes. There have been almost 60 thousand COVID-19 deaths in New York State as of December 16, 2022. A majority of those deaths have been recorded in New York City: Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Manhattan.
Pandemic takes hold in U.S. Across the United States, over one million COVID-19 deaths had been confirmed by the middle of December 2022. New York has been hit particularly hard throughout the pandemic and is among the states with the highest number of deaths from the coronavirus. The neighboring state of New Jersey was also at the heart of the initial outbreak in March 2020, and the two states continue to have some of the highest death rates from the coronavirus in the United States.
Deaths in New York City The number of new daily deaths from COVID-19 in New York City peaked early in the pandemic. Since then there have been waves in which the number of daily deaths rose, but they have not gotten close to the levels seen early in the pandemic. The impact of the coronavirus has been thoroughly analyzed, and the fatality rates by age in New York City support the evidence that the risk of developing more severe COVID-19 symptoms increases with age.
The purpose of this study was to examine the life experiences of inner-city African Americans, Puerto Ricans and Dominicans as they moved into mid-life and beyond. Participants were randomly selected from the Ethnic and Racial Minorities in Urban Areas Survey (ERMUAS) New York sample. The ERMUAS study was conducted as a companion study to the MacArthur Foundation Midus Survey on Successful Mid-Life Development to represent low income and ethnic and racial minority Americans in Chicago and New York. Participants ranged in age from twenty-five to seventy-four, the bulk between forty-one and sixty-eight years old. About two-thirds of the sample completed high school as their highest level of education and ten percent held bachelor's degrees. The sample consisted of one-hundred participants randomly selected from the New York sample. Participants were Dominican, Puerto Rican, and African American men and women from Harlem, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, New York City. They ranged in age from twenty-five to seventy-four, the bulk being between forty-one and sixty-eight years of age. About two-thirds of the sample completed high school as their highest level of education and ten percent held bachelor's degrees. Focused life-history interviews were administered face-to-face for a period of approximately three hours, and were tape-recorded. Topics covered included migration history; employment; education of the respondent and family members; attitudes towards welfare, opportunity and race relations; visions of middle age; and health and well-being. Participants also completed questionnaires assessing health, education, household information, neighborhood experience and services, employment history and status, network characteristics and basic demographics.
