The Brownfield data was handed over from LDA to the Homes and Communities Agency so that HCA could maintain it as part of the National Land Use Database (NLUD). The HCA’s online mapping site displays a points only version of NLUD from 2010 (password protected):
The links to the files below will remain here as a matter of historical record.

This database of Brownfield land replaces in more detail and accuracy the EP National Land Use Database (NLUD) for London. The current NLUD assessment covers sites in excess of 0.25ha. This project validates, checks and updates this information for existing NLUD sites plus new sites down to a smaller threshold of 0.1 hectares and above.
The Database records over 2,000 Brownfield sites across London, equivalent to more than 2% of the land in Greater London (an increase of over 1,000 sites than recorded on the previous system). The Homes and Communities Agency will use the database as their preferred platform for boroughs to record brownfield sites.
The London Database uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping. It includes transport routes, deprivation, social infrastructure, as well as heritage and natural environment assets that can be overlaid over the dataset of brownfield land. Visitors to the Database website can identify sites suitable for development, and better explore and understand a site’s context.

This is the Brownfield Land Register of the London Borough of Waltham Forest. In April 2017 regulations were introduced which place a responsibility onto local planning authorities to prepare and maintain a register of brownfield sites. The Register must be published by the 31st of December 2017, and updated annually. The purpose of the Register is to provide publicly available information on previously developed land (as defined in Annex 2 of the National Planning Policy Framework) throughout the Borough, London, and the country more widely, which offers potential for residential development. This will provide certainty for local authorities, developers and communities, and encourage investment on brownfield land. For a site to be included on the register it must have an area of at least 0.25 hectares, or be capable of providing at least five homes; and residential development on the site must be “suitable”, “available”’, and “achievable”. “Achievable”’ in this context means that in the opinion of the local planning authority, development is likely to take place within 15 years of the entry date. The criteria are fully set out in the Brownfield Land Register Regulations 2017. There are two parts to the Register. Part 1 comprises all brownfield sites that the local planning authority has assessed as appropriate for residential development, including sites both with, and without planning permission. Part 2 of the Register is a subset of Part 1. Part 2 comprises only those sites in Part 1 that the local planning authority has decided that the land would be suitable for a grant of permission in principle (PiP) for residential development. At this stage the Council has not granted ‘permission in principle’ for any sites. Accordingly, the Register relates to Part 1 only.

TwitterThe 2017 Regulations introduced the requirement for all local planning authorities in England to prepare, maintain and publish registers of previously developed land within their area that they consider appropriate for residential development (brownfield land registers). The 2017 Regulations set out in detail the steps that local planning authorities are required to follow in preparing and publishing their brownfield land registers. Those authorities specified in section 37 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 “the 2004 Act” are required to publish a brownfield land register. They are: district councils, London borough councils, metropolitan district councils, county councils (in areas where there is no district council), the Broads Authority, National Park authorities and a Mayoral Development Corporation where it is the local planning authority for the purposes of Part 2 of the 2004 Act. Brownfield land registers will ensure that standardised information and data about brownfield land that is suitable and available for residential development is kept up-to-date and made publicly available. This will provide certainty for local authorities, developers and communities and encourage investment on brownfield land. Registers will also enable the aggregation of data on brownfield land that is suitable for housing, including progress being made on getting planning permissions in place. Brownfield land registers are also a vehicle for granting permission in principle on suitable sites helping to increase the number of planning permissions for new homes.
