    Description

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The All Roads Shapefile includes all features within the MTDB Super Class "Road/Path Features" distinguished where the MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) for the feature in MTDB that begins with "S". This includes all primary, secondary, local neighborhood, and rural roads, city streets, vehicular trails (4wd), ramps, service drives, alleys, parking lot roads, private roads for service vehicles (logging, oil fields, ranches, etc.), bike paths or trails, bridle/horse paths, walkways/pedestrian trails, stairways, and winter trails.

Please see the individual layers below to access the detailed metadata. This feature layer contains three datasets:The Mining Boreholes dataset contains GIS points depicting mining boreholes digitized from the U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) Illinois Mineral Development Atlas (IMDA) for Jo Daviess County, Illinois. Each point includes a link to a corresponding log (if available). This is one of several datasets complied for the Karst Feature Database of Jo Daviess County, IL and hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The named mines dataset contains GIS polygons depicting surveyed outlines of known (named) mine diggings from the U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) Illinois Mineral Department Atlas (IMDA) for Jo Daviess County, Illinois. This is one of several datasets complied for the Karst Feature Database of Jo Daviess County, IL and hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The unnamed mines dataset contains GIS polygons depicting unsurveyed inferred outlines of unknown (unnamed) mine diggings from the U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) Illinois Mineral Development Atlas (IMDA) for Jo Daviess County, Illinois. Download In State Plane Projection Here. ** The Street Centerline feature class now follows the NG911/State of Illinois data specifications including a StreetNameAlias table. The download hyperlink above also contains a full network topology for use with the Esri Network Analyst extension ** These street centerlines were developed for a myriad of uses including E-911, as a cartographic base, and for use in spatial analysis. This coverage should include all public and selected private roads within Lake County, Illinois. Roads are initially entered using recorded documents and then later adjusted using current aerial photography. This dataset should satisfy National Map Accuracy Standards for a 1:1200 product. These centerlines have been provided to the United States Census Bureau and were used to conflate the TIGER road features for Lake County. The Census Bureau evaluated these centerlines and, based on field survey of 109 intersections, determined that there is a 95% confidence level that the coordinate positions in the centerline dataset fall within 1.9 meters of their true ground position. The fields PRE_DIR, ST_NAME, ST_TYPE and SUF_DIR are formatted according to United States Postal Service standards. Update Frequency: This dataset is updated on a weekly basis.

Voting District Project of the Census Redistricting Data Program commenced in Summer of 2017 to establish the state’s Voting precincts within the bureau’s tiger geography. The initial phase used the Bureau’s GUPS plugin for QGIS to update the districts from the 2010 round, and then a secondary verification phase took place to ensure the updated voting districts were properly enacted into Tiger geographic files. A post census effort took place in December 2021 to cut the number of precincts down countywide to 1430. Election Data Services conducted Phase 2 of the Census Redistricting Data Program for the State of Illinois, as well as implemented changes made post census in Cook County.

Precincts are updated as needed before every election by the Cook County Clerk's Elections Department.

The Address Ranges Relationship File (ADDR.dbf) contains the attributes of each address range. Each address range applies to a single edge and has a unique address range identifier (ARID) value. The edge to which an address range applies can be determined by linking the address range to the All Lines Shapefile (EDGES.shp) using the permanent topological edge identifier (TLID) attribute. Multiple address ranges can apply to the same edge since an edge can have multiple address ranges. Note that the most inclusive address range associated with each side of a street edge already appears in the All Lines Shapefile (EDGES.shp). The TIGER/Line Files contain potential address ranges, not individual addresses. The term "address range" refers to the collection of all possible structure numbers from the first structure number to the last structure number and all numbers of a specified parity in between along an edge side relative to the direction in which the edge is coded. The address ranges in the TIGER/Line Files are potential ranges that include the full range of possible structure numbers even though the actual structures may not exist.

The All Lines Shapefile contains the geometry and attributes of each topological primitive edge. Each edge has a unique TIGER/Line identifier (TLID) value.
