A strata title is the most common title associated with town houses and home units and is evidence of ownership of a unit, which is called a 'lot', in a strata plan. A strata plan divides a building and its associated land into lots, each of which has a strata title, and usually common property. Common property is the part of the land and building in the strata plan which does not form part of any unit, for instance, stairways, passages, driveways and car park.

Steps taken to create or modify subdivision layers: Applicant submits application for subdivision approval along with various documents and surveys. Intake Staff creates case file and distributes application to various agencies and departments for review, commenting and providing recommendations. Assigned Subdivision Technician reviews development with all parties and prepares Letter of Approval to be signed by Approving Officer outlining all requirements and conditions of subdivision, Once applicant has satisfied prerequisites, the signed Survey plan is deposited in Land Titles Office (LTO) along with all associated documentation. Planning Technician accesses the LTO Tax system to gather information relevant for entering into the Permit Plan system. Once permit plan database is updated, Planning Technician informs Mapping Technician of all necessary changes needed to be made to the subdivision layers. Mapping Technician reviews the information on the database and makes the adjustments.
